There are some people who reject the band. There is a husband and wife team on here. Both banded the same day. He had to have the band removed and she is fine. It is the same with any procedure including child birth. I am sure she will come on and explain what happened for you.

With just over one month to my surgery I made a phone call to connect with someone who had a lapband at the beginning of this year. Never spoken to the lady but was horrified to be told by her husband that she was in hospital with serious 'gastro'. Of course I gingerly asked if it was anything to do with the lapband and he was reluctant to comment (not knowing me didn't help). He did however give me the speel about making sure I had looked into the lap band long and hard before I decided to go ahead....
Anyone heard of this sort of problem?
As if I wasn't already getting nervous (cold feet)! Funny thing is I have had this lady's number for weeks and weeks and today, of all days, I decided to be brave and pick up the phone.
Would really appreciate all/any comments, information, feedback.
Thanks heaps. |

Trish,
I can relate to that issue with finding a vein. I always tell them there are plenty of obvious ones in my legs, but they don't seem keen to try there! Last time they managed to get one in the hand, but it's nigh on impossible to get the arm, certainly doesn't happen first time round.
I used to go to blood bank and got to asking for a particular person who was good at finding a vein in the arm. Haven't been for ages as one of the things one has to do is . . . . . . . . yep, wait for it . . . . . . . you probably already know . . . . . . . . that's it, you've gotta get on the scales. No way Jose!
Anyway, for you - water under the bridge now and one step closer. Are you getting excited yet? |

I was on half a cup of mushies. If you are hungry it is better to eat more often than too much at once.

I have an August appointment with Dr Munro (Central Coast)& op date of 13th August. I have been to 2 info sessions & have decided that lap banding is right for me.....although have still got some nervous feelings, mainly on how it will effect my life with food changes. I know alot of people say the same thing & that we don't know the answer until after the op - wouldn't it be good if we had a crystal ball? The main concern for me is that my Husband loves to eat out..hm..+ I love to go too!
I would love to have a face to face chat with someone out there who could answer some questions - questions that just pop into this head of mind from time to time. Anyone live near Erina Fair & would be able to meet?

Had my final blood work done this morning in prep for the op next tuesday... pfft they couldnt find a vein and I had to go away and come back 2 hours later after I had eaten and drank 2 litres of water...
I came back and they still couldnt get one so they sent me across town to another blood place and it took 3 different women to find the vein.. I have holes in me every where, my hands, both arms even my feet aaaaand they were looking lovingly at my neck for one but said they would avoid that cos it gets pretty ugly... thank goodness they finally got it...sheesh. |

Unzippin I do hope your feeling better soon!!
It's great to see i will still be able to still enjoy a roast. Though I must admit the vegies are my favourite bit. I can't tolerate tough meat and on these night the dogs and cat get very lucky LOL (Spoilt brats)

fwaaaaa yum that sounds divine Linda ...when is your cook book coming out.. that image will be in my head all day... and yes there is drool.
THe chicken in a bag also sounds good... I have done lamb in a bag before but not opened it up in the last five mins to crisp...I stopped doing it in the bag cos it was kinda sad and soggy so thanks for that tip I am gonna give it a go.
I have a litte wire rack that would fit in my slow cooker so I might be able to use that to raise up some of the roasts.
Last night I made Tbone steaks and from scratch creamy cheesy vegetable bake for the family.. I couldnt help myself I was sucking the bones to get that salty meaty hit after they finished... I know its aweful but after 8 weeks I just wanted to remember what it at least tasted like... I didnt eat anything tho I was really good... Im gonna stop I am making my self sick |

The only roasts I have done in the slow cooker have been the marinated ones from Safeway. They have a bit of marinade in the bag and I don't add anything else. Now with my chook in the oven I use a whole garlic (prob about 20 knobs) cut in half, peel and all and a lemon or lime cut in quarters and place that inside. I insert small wedges of butter under the breast skin. Mix salt and pepper and smoked parika in a little oil and rub that over the whole chook. Cook on a rack in the oven. Trish you probably don't want to know this whilst on opti just close your eyes. Ohh damn too late! Wipe that drool off your chin!!!!!

I've been doing my roasts in oven bags lately, especially chicken. I open the bag about 5 minutes before serving it to crispen the outside up a bit. Turns out lovely and moist. When I roast in the slow cooker I usually raise the roast on a small upturned plate and only use a tiny amount of water.
Cheers

Mezzie trust me its better if you keep people in the know to the minimum so you have done the right thing. Only my hubby and kids and my mum and dad know and I wish I had not told my mum. People outside the loop tend to have unrealistic goals for you and that can make it hard.
Thanks Linda I have been playing with the idea of doing roasts in the slow cooker and I loooove gravey so that will make me happy. So is the meat on a roast super tender done that way. do you put any liquid in the bottom to stop it sticking at all or just plonk it in. I wont do one now before my surgery cos I will want to eat it but maybe when Iam on mushies I can wizz her up with some extra gravey and veg...oooo that does sound good. |

Thank you so much! I imagine that you may have to talk me 'down' a bit until I have surgery booked - no one in real life knows I'm going ahead with it because I know they'd just try to talk me out of it I just don't want to have any regrets, and now that you've told me I can still enjoy the occasional roast I feel much better!
Better go get ready for work now! :(
Cheers,

Hi Trish, lately I have been cooking roast meat in the slow cooker and doing the veges in the oven. I can eat roast chook done in the oven. I think the trick is to cut it fine and have lots of gravy with it. If I am out I try to pick my meat very carefully and have tiny bites and if in doubt just eat the veges.

Thank you Losinit.. I ws actually going to look for that post today so you saved me some hard work.
Do you think the honey would boot me out of keto Pyretta I dont want a back slide.
Mezzief I do the same thing I think its just part of the journey.
Pyretta does cooking your roast in a bag make it any better fro the band or is it a case of if it aint going down it aint going down even if you boiled it. |

Mezzief,
You will be able to enjoy food after your op. Just in smaller quantities. You may still be able to eat your lovely roast, I can still eat meat, just chewed very well.
If you really are unsure make a list of positives and negatives and they weight them up. I'm pretty sure which will come out on top.

Unzippin,
If you have any vicks vapour rub in the house, rub some onto the souls of your feet and wear a thick pair of bedsocks tonight. I have no idea how it works but it always clears a cold for me.
I really hope you can get it out of your system before your op, I'm pretty sure you still have time.

Getting cold feet!
Hi all, my appointment with my surgeon is next week and I'm already getting cold feet! Last night we had a lovely roast and all I could think of was how I wouldn't be able to eat anything as lovely as it again!
I want to get rid of this weight and feel healthier but can't help but think I'm doing the wrong thing... :( |

Unzippin,
There there . . you poor young thing! You know you'll always get some sympathy here. On a brighter note, why not try this, which ruby4redshoes posted not so long ago:
There's been a bit of chat about people getting the flu etc this winter. I put this on the General Chat thread but it's a recipe that everyone should know about....
If you really want to escape the flu/cold, or cure it, I guarantee this recipe - cheap as chips and works brilliantly. We have not had a day in bed, nor an antibiotic since I discovered this 10 years ago.
Place in a large mug:-
1 knob of fresh ginger, chopped
1 large clove of fresh garlic, chopped
1 lemon, juiced
1 tbsp Honey
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Add boiling water to fill the mug and stir.
Sip slowly and EAT ALL THE BITS! Go to bed and wake up all better! This is the best natural remedy for cold and flue EVER!
Jan
I reckon it's worth a try. Mightn't taste great, but if it does the trick, who cares? (After all, if you've been on Opti as long as you have, almost ANYTHING can taste great!) :-)
Hope you're on the mend soon. And it won't be long before you're on the other side, and I'm still waiting. :-( |

I am having a bit of a self indulgent sook at the moment. I have stayed at home for the last week and a half because my surgery is in 7 days and I didnt want catch something and get sick.
Well lemme tell you that I sit her in my own lil pity party for one with a sore throat an ear ache and my body is starting to hurt.
Now my theory is that if I havent been out, then some basket brought it home. So I have been sitting on the lounge sucking down my black decaf throwing nasty squinty eyes at everyone in the room and no one has noticed....pfft how flaming rude. *sigh* so I came on here to share my misery.
I have since snorted the vicks first defence... shot down 2 codral immune defence tabs and a fricken horse tablet of natural cold and flu remedy now Im thinking sheesh I hope there were no carbs in that and I didnt blow my opti stage out my grass.
Meh..... like I said Im sulking! |
