Mollee,
You're not rude - you can just call me losingit - I don't use my real name on here. Trish is one of our June bandits and goes by the username of 'unzippin da fatsuit'.
You have the determination now because there is a permanent answer at the end of it for you. Previously I suspect, like many of us, you wondered how long would it last and is it going to stay off this time. Well, the reason why we have this done is that we're hoping the answer is yes. |

Jane
first dont be too hard on yourself
and dont get too despondant
when do you go for the next fill
you might only need a tiny bit more
1 ml can make a lot of difference believe it or not
hang in there hun
choose proteins over the carbs if you can
they do keep you full for longer
and maybe lower your calorie intake
i know its frustrating for you
but hang in there

Jen,
Thanks for the quick reply. I think it's a 12ml band. I have asked the surgeon on all four of the last visits and he's not concerned, wants me to wait and be patient. It's at 8ml now though and I honestly have no limit to food intake. (obviously we all get full at some point though) It may need to be fully closed but feel ripped off so far. I have lost 10kg in four months through eating healthier but would like to feel that the band is at least restricting the quantity; after all, that's why I had it done. It's definately there as I had trouble on two occasions eating a wholemeal roll which got 'stuck' and I was thrilled. I can eat main pasta's, an entree and main when I go out etc and that concerns me. I feel full like I did pre op. There's no difference. I eat slowly, don't drink, wait to feel something but it doesn't come. Doc's advise on Monday was to have the mini bowl serve and see if I could stop myself. I did. I felt hungry and remained hungry but my question is this. Isn't it supposed to make you feel different? as though you can't or don't want to eat more? I still have hope and will eat right and do what I should. I just expected some change. There is no easy fix, I know, but there has to be some affect or it's not worth going through the pain, and the expense.
I will lose the remaining 47 kilos I have to go but just hope that the banding will help me out a little too.

Yea it does losting it (forgive me for being so rude but its trish isn't it) must be losing some brain cells along with the kilos LoL. I really never thought I could or would do this but when you finally get a date and you can start to see a light all things change you do what must be done at all costs and that is what I am doing.
Don't get me wrong I still have the temptation but I don't act on it as I know it could be difference of being done or not being done.
The only thing though is why haven't I ever had this determination before why has it taken to this??? |

Hahaha Mollee - thanks, but there's certainly nothing amazing about me. I appreciate you thinking so though.
You made me smile because with your previous post because you sounded so unsure and emotional a few weeks ago, and here you are setting the standard. Just goes to show that sometimes we can do what we think we can't, and of course it helps to hear other's experiences. |

Jane,
Welcome. I can't really help you as I have only been banded nearly 3 weeks and go for my post-op and - presumably - my first fill tomorrow.
I brought a couple of threads forward for you - you should see them on the front page - they are Identifying Restriction and someone else a while ago with a query similar to yours. Have a read - might be of some help.
Good luck. |

Hi Jane.
What size is your whole band they can be up to 14mls as far as I know.
You know it's your surgeon that should have the answers for you on this one. And you are still at a very early stage of banding.
We can theorise until the cow comes home and I think most of us would say ... go back to your surgeon, and try to get answers from him as he put it in, he knows your body internally.
The thing that we all learn on this journey is that we are all different. I know of people who never had fill and lost weight, of people who had an overfilled band and still felt hungry and were able to eat.
Now coming from someone with a history of a stretched pouch don't overeat until you think you feel stuffed. Use some commone sense. Feeling full on the band is different from feeling full without a band. It's an entirely different sensation, It took me about a year to get that down.
Take care... this is a long term journey, not a quick fix.

Hi,
New to this. I was doing some research as I'm quite concerned that my banding has not worked and found you all. I'm three 1/2 months post op, have 8ml in the thing and I can still eat huge amounts and anything foods I like. I have done everything asked, haven't vomited etc in the early stages and feel like the banding has not worked. Is there anyone out there who has had this and it hasn't altered their eating???? I'm not sure what to do. The doc keeps saying everyone is different, don't worry, we are still tightening etc. but my sis had it done and she felt it straight away and only has 1.5ml in. I know they are adjustable for a reason but I've had four adjustments now and each time I hope for something, to feel full or restricted after a small amount but there's no change. What do you think? |

Hi Mel
I have five in too. Just after the fill our docs says liquids for three days. But after that you should be able to have everything, just less of it, and don't forget to chew a lot, to the point of liquifying food if you can.
All the best. |

Fantastic work, Mollee. You should be so proud of yourself. Opti's not easy, but it is a means to an end, and you've gotta keep the prize in mind. Well done Mollee! :-)
You are sounding a little more positive than you were a few weeks ago. It seems like you're getting a few things sorted out, so that's good - I'm happy for you.
You have proven to yourself that you CAN do this, and you have every right to stand tall and walk proud.
Three cheers for Mollee - hip hip hooray hip hip hooray hip hip hooray! You go girl. |

Hi All
Thought I would drop in as I have not really post much, been here and looking and reading but not much to say. Except for today LOL, just to fill you in I have been on the opti now for 9 days (this is my ninth day) and I have not cheated at all which I am so proud of myself that in itself is an achievement for me. I have lost 6 kilos in the first week. And I have my ultrasound tomorrow so hopefully it will go ok and I will have no gall bladder problems. Went out on a bus trip last night to the casino and sat with everyone while they had their very very very yummy meals I stuck to my salad. Did I feel Like I was missing out hell yea but I kept thinking of the outcome for it. I am just so amazed at myself sticking to the opti I really didn't think that I would as I am not good at those sort of things so really if I can do it I now know anyone could. So only another 34 days left (whose counting) ME ME ME. of opti and I am there.

On another note has anyone ever resented having to get fills? My next is today and I'm feeling like my food is going be taken away from me!
Stupid I know because it's the reason we get banded in the first place but sometimes I feel my band intrudes in some situations. |

Mel,
Do you mean .5 or 5ml? If it's 5ml in one fill that seems extreme? I would be struggling a bit to...
I would suggest stick to liquids diet 24-48hrs then soft diet and so on... if liquids are difficult I would visit the doc again.
Has anyone else on here had a large fill before? |

eoralin,
There is one but it is way way back. I'm sorry I don't have time to look for it right now but I have brought back a thread containing gastric banding books. One of them deals with self sabotage.

| eorolin ,not that I have seen ,start one, and I am sure you will get a good reaction, many do sabotage it, something to do with worry about loosing their old self sometimes a visit to the phycologist is needed or a visit to a good lapband dietitian, maybe study rules of the road and I have bought forward a couple of other threads,1.the 10,most common mistakes wls patie ,and also,2. things to expect 4the newly banded ,all the best,Doreen |

| i cant eat reheated meat, because when you reheat meat you cook it more and take out moisture therefore it becomes dry, and when you try eat it, it gets stuck and balls together |
