| I was getting reasonably good results at home but my blood tests showed slightly elevated levels... everything has since settled and the diabetes is in remission. |

Mine were the same and my doctor explained that it was really a good sign the the sugars were elevated while on opti because it meant that the body was still producing good levels of insulin...which means that the diabetes had not done a great deal of damage.
Because you are in a state of ketosis its almost like a fasting situation... so if you consider that your sugar levels are always higher when you fast eg in the morning you will understand why they are higher when doing opti and in ketosis |

a teaspoon isnt a bad idea, i didnt think of that one. i did think of a straw but have found that i can still drink too fast with that.
I think the not drinking before and after food is going to be the hardest thing, so am starting that soon as well... i have already started the chew chew chew thing and am finding i dont have any problems with that now :)
Good luck with your band in 3 weeks, im really looking forward to mine.

Hi nomore (Liz)
Why not just try sipping from a teaspoon. That's what is suggested in my surgeon's info booklet, or use a straw. I reckon drinking from a cup we may drop back into gulping. I am going to have to concentrate on not drinking with meals, but long before or long time after. It's going to be a lot of adjustment in the beginning. I've started to practise - due to be banded in 3 weeks!!

Hi All,
I've been trying to get everything worked out and ready for when i get banded before chrissy.
From reading past messages, i've found that most have to relearn to sip as we generaly take gulps... i've been thinking of getting one of the tupperware sip cups for kids to help teach me to sip and avoid problems and pain in the first few weeks after surgery.
What does everyone think? any better ideas?
I know this may seem like im planing too much, im just the kind of person that copes better if im prepaired.

Hi Madonna
How kind of you to think of me. I had a few problems, dental infection among other things, and so it got postponed. I have not got the new date yet. I am staying on opti for another week, as I have lost 7kgs and am terrified now of cutting it back and including some regular food. i will wait and see what my doc says. I will let you all know what happens. I am following all of your journeys with interest. best of luck!!!

mumofthreeloves,
I have just read that your didn't have your surgery on the 1st. Is everything ok, did the doctor bump you or was there a problem?
I do hope you are feeling better within yourself this week. Let me know what date you have now.

They will understand. You will be doubly pampered and at least you will not have to do any food prep.
Hope you are enjoying your wine. Have one for me.

Cetainly will be much cheaper.. lol 1 glass date.
No i'm going fine. No soreness to speak of. No deep breaths though. I'm up to my 3 opti's and have managed over a litre of water today which I'm pleased with.
Not long for you now. I had no shoulder tip pain luckily. I've come out really well considering other stories. Just think positive we are all different. I have had some major ops like hys ter ect omy and came out of that pretty well. |

Juliet, how are you going after your op?
Are you managing ok on fluids? must admit i think this will be the worst part of the whole journey, opti has been good (except for tonight.lol)but not sure how the fluids stage will go, hoping that im not in the least hungry so it wont bother me too much, hey im getting a real kick out of this wine, maybe i will turn into a one glass party girl as well, has to some advantage in that!

Yes I was told 2 weeks aswell Had op on 28th and going back 4th. I think I'll be fine. Like countymum sit at my desk all day tied to the phones.
I think as you have the 2 weeks just see how you go. Maybe you could do a few half days if you are not up to it straight away
