Hi Creature
It sure is depressing, I've had to cope with if for five years!
You don't say what brand band you have and how much your band holds so it's hard to give an opinion. I have an SAGB (swedish adjustable gastric band) 9ml is the recommended maximum level for the model I have.
I have 9ml in a 9ml band and I have very little restriction. I've even been up to 11ml in the 9ml band, under regular supervision by my surgeon and the Product Manager of the band's company, all I ended up with was reflux and very little restriction.
After 2 years it was found my band has slipped so I had it repositioned. Another 2 years on and it's the same old story except the band hasn't slipped, I have maximum fill and little restriction. I have lost over forty kilos but this was mainly due to sheer determination that it was going to work and little help from the band.
I've always been able to eat everything, in fact I dined out tonight and had a steak dinner, I took a container with me just in case I couldn't eat it all but it and dessert went down with no difficulty at all.
I hope restriction kicks in for you soon.

hi creature,
there is such a thing as non sensative pouch, but there have been times when i havent felt full, ussually when ive eaten soft mushy type food or crackers, i recently had 1 whole ml taken out of my band, i can now eat bread, and steak, which fills me and i dont feel like i could eat a cupboard when i get home from work, and have to preoccupy my time or cook dinner early, to avoid over eating of the easy stuff.since the defill i find i have more sensitivity in my pouch for feeling full.
firstly maybe look at your food intake, what types of food r u eating???
soft/ crunchy (slider food)mash spuds, soups etc or food with substance, eg tender steak, chicken thigh fillets, fish & steamed veg.
if the earlier, possibly u need to firstly eat as much solid type foods,( chewing well) if u find u r having problems after chewing well, maybe u need an unfill.
some times it also takes time to find your sweet spot ( green zone) as they call it.
maybe write down keep a diary of what and how much u r eating for a week, this will give you an idea of what type of foods and how much (up to 1 cup per meal 3 times a day) u r consuming, maybe take your food diary to your dr or dietician and see what they have to say, maybe this will assist u and your dr in making the decision as to which way u need to go with your band.
pleae dont give up, this band is a useful tool if u work with it, and it does work.
Take Care

Hey Guys and Girls, I need your professional opinions!!!!
I think im in what is called Bandster Hell!!!
I had my operation on 6/7 and had my first fill in August.
I have had 5 fills ( nearly one per week) and have approx 6 mil in band and yet still have no restriction!!!
Argggghh.. Im getting to the point of is it me? am i doing something wrong?
Surely if I was eating past the point of being full I would notice or PB or something!! I just dont get it!!!
I have only lost 3 kgs since operation!
Has anyone else experienced it. I am trying to have faith that one day a fill will work! But finding it very depressing!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I don't know the medical side of things Jeff, but I have been banded for 3 years so will give you my opinion.
The more fill you have the less likely it is that you consume 3 cans of soft drink a day. Most people don't like you drinking coke due to the caffine.
I struggle with wind pain in my shoulder and the gas build up form a can of soft frink would just kill me.
I don't think it would actually stretch your pouch though...... don't really know.
all in all my opinion is after your fill, sneak up on it!! YOu will need to sip your drinks very carefully and thing will change for you too, suddenly! For example, I can't dirnk ice cold water or it just comes straight back up..... 3 gulps of coke and it comes straight back up....... cool water, I'm fine, an I can drink flat soft drink..... (yay) :)
Of course the idea would be to stop drinking soft drinks of any kind, diet/zero etc ........ but doing it is another thing!
Since banding I struggle to burp at all..... I dont' drink anything gassy though, so I don't know if the gas fills your pouch up quicker or not.
Good luck,
D |

Hi Everyone,
CARBONATED DRINKS (Coke Zero)
I am 4 weeks post op and about to have my first fill next week? In the last two weeks i have started drinking about 1-3 cans of Coke Zero a day with no problems. I get a little gassy but have no pain and i generally just Burp it all out. My understanding was once i get some fill in then it will be harder to release the gas?
On another thread today it was highlighted to me that this is a complete no no? Neither my doc or dietican mentioned this to me pre-op, the only thing that was said was that some people can and others cant.
There is also differing opinions on different sites and i it all seems a bit 'Grey', some say is stretches the small stomach and others say that it does not, And if i was stretching the pouch would i have not felt more pain?
i am a little confused and wondering if i could get some more experienced banders to offer their thoughts and advice.
Thank you
Jeff |

| Good suggestions Col, Pete sometimes my band is great sometimes its unfriendly. I eat a lot of tinned tuna. I mix it up with the mash potato, add a little cheese sauce or light sour cream and I find when ever my band is fickle that and or a runny boiled egg are great to eat (but not every one eats eggs, but me I love them )Alex |

Hi Pete and well done on the weight loss so far thats a great loss
agree with the others possibly your a bit tight
butttttttt also as Col said remember the tiniest of bites and chew till almost dissolved
i think many of us come undone here with the size of the bite...i surely do
it takes continual reminding to take extremely small bites...try pea sized bites especially with the first few bites of a meal
i oddly have found im better to have the first few mouthfuls while standing up....goes down fine each n every time then i sit down at the table to continue the meal...not sure why but this always works for me
so before you return to the doctor try the tiny tiny bites...takes us a while to get our heads around that i think....but i really mean pea sized....if that goes down after lots of chewing then dont go any bigger bite than the size of a small broad bean...n even that can be too big
takes a bit of practice
let us know how you go

Peter,
Hi. If you can eat cheese and bacon balls you chould be able to at Cruskits. Top them with wet things, vegemite, lite cream cheese spread etc.
There is a thread here about the benfits of loosening your band to lose weight. It's possible if you had a little fill out you would be able to enjoy leafy salads and small select cuts of meat.
It really is trial and error..... what I did was find something I could eat and add to it.... mashed spuds I added a little roast chicken..... no go at all, so then I tried a small bit of cold shaved roast meat, beautiful! Same as cruskits.... becasue of the texture of them they may help other foods slide down. For example... I can't eat tuna, too dry for me, however, if I get a cruskit and add some oil grove spread and the tiniest bit of tuna flaked up its quite good!.
Let me know how you go,
D |

| Hi Pete....My name is Col and I have been banded since May 2008...currently have lost about 52kg but have slowed up now as am only about 12-15 away from goal....but very happy with it.You should be able to eat more than what you are eating now.Are you making sure you eat very slowly and chewing the food enough. Also make sure you are eating the right portion size....1/2 -1 cup. Also try eating protein...not carbs so much until you get used to the band and what you can tolerate.Tender slow cooked chicken thigh and a sauce or fish steamed with ginger garlic and chilli with a similar sauce with some well steamed veg and take your time eating...put the fork down and chat between bites.good luck...Col |

Peter it sounds to me like you have too much fill. I'm sure you are aware of the chew chew chew, and taking things very slowly. If you are doing all that, and still throwing up, I really think you need to get some fill out.
You need to be able to eat a variety of foods, and it's certainly no fun throwing up all the time. Have you spoken to your surgeon/practice about your situation? |

Hi all,
I'm a little bit frustrated at what I can and can't eat.
I was banded on the 19th June and have lost 20kgs so far. What I'm frustrated about is when I get hungry, there is only 1 or 2 things I can eat without throwing up.
I can eat mashed potatoes and mashed vegetables.
I can also eat cheese and bacon balls (I know they're not good for me but it's variety) and custard.
Even trying to eat mince meat and diced bacon makes me throw-up.
Has anybody got some other food ideas that I can try?
Thanks,
Peter |

I have had that from time to time, and I spoke with my surgeon about it. but he feels that its more due to the fact I don't have as much fat there any more, so its more obvious.
I am thinking because of your teeth, you have dropped a few more kilos thus making it more noticeable.
mine doesn't hurt all the time its periodic.
