Dreams... let it go. It is all a load of you know what. Us "old" bandits will still be here. We manage to get keep slogging away here so that we can try and support the newbies coming along.
Have a nice sleep and come back when you feel like it. We will still be here.

Dreams,
Stuff like this happens occasionally and yes even I have been accused of creating multiple personalities just to harass people but really why bother.
The trouble makers will blow their own horns for a while and then disappear, then a new lot will come along and it will cycle through again.
In the mean time people will still come here for help and support and we will be here to offer it, just ignore the blow ins.

I'm not sure what's going on with these threads at the moment!! There are slanging matches everywhere - people having a go at each other.
What happened when it use to be a friendly place to come and meet people? I've been attacked for defending us against a troll!! What's with that?? Time to sign off once & for all I think and use the support networks that I have formed during the last 9 months.
I hope that everyone has a nice life and hopefully one day these threads might turn back into what they use to be. I left high school quite a few years ago and really don't want to play in school yards anymore. Pity really....
Good luck everyone....

Irene,
Most laproscopic surgeries or even laporoscopies will leave at least 4 small incisions. Unless you actually show them your stomach they will not know of the larger one.

Irene... it is laproscopic. But, the incision where the port is is a bit longer than the others. Why would your family need to look anyway???? Obviously you are not telling them that you are getting band, or it wouldn't need to be hidden.
You will be ok.. they don't need to see it.
I have the one port scar about 5 cms under my left rib cage... and another one up near my sternum, then another either side of this a bit lower under the ribs on both sides... really nothing to speak of. My daughter had the surgery last week and has the same incisions as me. I now have the added extras of four more since my gall bladder removal. |

Irene,
I know there is a thread somewhere on them, I hope I have brought the right one forward, but again it will depend on your surgeon to where he puts the port. Mine is on the left, about 12cm down from my left breast. I know of others that have theirs positioned lower and some who's port is between the breasts, so their large scar would be higher.

| Irene... my long incision was only about 8 cm's long. I actually have to look quite hard to find it these days. I used that oil... again I cant remember the name of it. But then a plastic surgeon told me to use KY Jelly because it is pure silicone... so I use that now on all my scars. I have recently had my gall bladder out, and I am now using it on those as well... not that anyone sees my stomach other than my hubby and me, and Dr.Fill, but the red marks are not something I want to see. |

Irene,
what you are feeling is totally normal. We all freaked out before our ops. You'll be fine.
As for the incisions, it ill depend on your surgeon but most people come away with between 4 and 6 incisions. All of them will be less than 2cm long except the one which they place your port through, it will be about 6 to 10 cm long. Again where they are positioned will depend on your surgeon.
You shouldn't be in a lot of pain, but pain is a very personal thing and varies from person to person. Just make sure you keep taking your painkillers as long as you need them and you'll be fine.
Best of luck.

Hi Irene... Well you have come to the right place for support from some wonderful people. Pyretta will be able to give you support with the opti side of things, along with many other people who have had great success leading up to their surgeries on it.
I am not sure about the incision sites... I have five - one longer one and four stab wounds. They cannot be seen at all anymore... they are almost invisible.
Don't freak out... you will be fine. Not long till surgery for you.

You are right Pyretta... we fret for these girls, and I had to wait till she was almost 21 for her to make her own decision. It still scared me senseless, but it is what she wanted.
My weight... the one who must be obeyed says that I am not fat and to get over myself. I probably should start listening to her...

As for your weight, I only wish i had an answer for you. I have watched you struggle for over 2 years now and know how hard you try when you set your mind to it.
It will happen for both of us, who knows when but we have to keep believing.

Mel,
I'm glad to hear that C is coping well. I must admit the thought of mine getting banded scares me, but I know it would help her so much. She still hasn't decided one way or the other yet, and at 18 I'm not pushing it either.
I hope you don't get the storm, but i can tell you we had a glorious day in Melbourne yesterday only to be windy wet and freezing today. I hope your weather isn't as fickle LOL.

Absolutely Brilliant!!! I am glad that you got what you wanted... I keep thinking I need more, but I don't... I am struggling with a lot of foods these days. I am not loosing either which is annoying the bejeebers out of me I have to say. Gym three to five times a week... walking as well... and no weight loss. Oh well.
She is doing very well I have to say. Better than I did. She is sick of soups... and actually ate yogurt today which I was worried about, but as she said, she could have sucked it up a straw... so no dramas.
She has a great attitude. She does not want to know about the numbers on the scales or the tape measure. She just wants to feel better and be comfortable. She wants to be slim... but the numbers don't matter. Very good attitude I have to say.
Otherwise, all good. It was hot here today, and they are saying we might get a monster storm here tonight in Sydney, well no sign of anything yet I have to say.

Gunna,
I don't blame you for feeling cr@ppy at the moment but things will get better. Your health insurance may give you a refund on some of your emergency room costs, at least I hope they do.
When you go and see your surgeon for a refill talk to him about possibly refastening your port, you should have to go through that pain every time you need a fill/unfill.
As I said the positives will come, in 6 months time you'll barely remember all this, you'll be basking in your weight loss.
Hang in there.
