Hi All
Hope you don't mind me butting in, I've been lurking a few weeks but didn't dare post till I had my date. Have it now 11th Nov yahoo.
Guli so glad to hear it went well, I'm a bit scared about it all and good stories put me at ease... a bit.
Nikkinee I sympathise with you my hubby and kids aren't big eaters but are thin with hyper metabolisms so they burn off food quick and we have to have high calorie food for them no low fat anything ...sure makes it hard.

| Nikkinee...You need to sit your parents down and explain to them the bad influence that their behaviour is having on you and that you want them to help you...not hurt you.The problem we probably have all had is the same..Our parents fed us large meals because that was what they were fed when young; probably.A lot of their generation were incredibly hard workers..physically.. and were able to burn off a big meal where we tend to be not as physical. The commitment you are about to take up is life long ...not a diet..and you need to focus on what you are eating. You will need to start now to train yourself to knock back food when it is put in front of you.You will go to a restaurant or pub for a meal and have the same problem so it is time for you to start saying "you don't need a big meal".The band is only a tool to assist you;by giving you a small upper stomach, and you will need to recognize; before you feel full that you have eaten enough. It is not easy and you would be wise to start now in training yourself and your parents...all the best....Col |

Nikkinee,
My family are all big eaters as well, but you will find with the right restriction you just can't eat what you used to, either it won't go down, or it will come straight back out.
You will work out what methods work best for you once you have you band but most people find dishing there dinner up on a side plate helps them to control portions. Maybe if you by yourself a special small plate and tell your parents that this will be what you will eat off once you are banded.
best of luck with it.

| Hi P1xie - believe me you are not alone! Just weighed myself for the first time after my initial consult (3 weeks ago) have gained 2.5 kilos!! I keep on justifying everything I eat by telling myself it is the last time - but it is starting to feel like aversion therapy. I am feeling so horrible that I am almost looking forward to starting Optifast next Monday! LOL |

I was wondering how people go living with big eaters? I am currently living with my parents again and they are huge eaters, and on top of that, always have bad food in the house. As much as they say they will just have to stop buying the bad foods, I find this hard to believe as I have been hearing it all my life.
My mum is a terrible influence. For dinner I say 1 piece of potato and I get 3. I say a tiny bit of meat and I get 2 big pieces. I know that at the end of the day it is my choice to eat what I eat but I'm scared that after surgery I will have to fight so much harder to resist the bad foods, as I have this constant influence from my parents.
Does anyone have a similar problem and can anyone offer any suggestions on how to tackle it?
Thx Nikkinee |

| Thanks Di and Losing it. You got it right losing it 'I'm the Hoover'. Even I am so disgusted with myself. I just wish that my surgery wasn't so far out. I'm really feeling quite ashamed of myself and it's like if you are doing this now, it's not going to work for you. But I know what I am like - come 27 Oct I will follow Opti Intensive to the letter. I want a good recovery, especially because there is a 50/50 chance that my op will be an open op. Thank you for your kind words and support. P1xie xo |

P!xie,
Sounds to me like you're about to have surgery! Don't stress, I think many of us have been through exactly the same thing. I think I must have put on many kilos prior to starting my preparation. It's that mindset of "I'll never be able to eat this again". Really, all any of us can do is our best. Now if that happens to mean hoovering everything in sight, well so be it. However, just keep in mind once you start Opti that you are at the beginning of changing your life, and if you stick with it you will have a much better chance of things going well in surgery, PLUS the bonus of a better recovery.
I pretty much stuck to Opti to the letter. Not sure how, but I did, and really surprised myself. I actually think it was because of that that I was able to stick with the post-op routine without too much hassle. I just wasn't hungry for days.
Don't beat yourself up about what's happening now. Just resolve to tell yourself that once you start your preparation, you are going to put your all into it.
Some days I wish I could go back to hoovering . . . . . . . . .
Please don't think I'm being rude, but I was able to consume pretty large quantities of anything that took my fancy.
You'll be fine. Don't stress. Take it easy. Good luck. |

Hi P1xie....
Yes - you are totally normal!! I'm sure if you read through the threads you will find lots of people who have done the same thing... I know that I did... every mouthful is like the last supper. There is nothing wrong with you - it's all part of the journey....
Good luck :)

Can anyone tell me if most people go a bit mental prior to starting Opti Intensive? Ever since I have found out that I am about to become a bandit (Nov 24), I have been ramming even more food than usual into my mouth. I feel disgusting. I'm sure I have put on at least 10 kilos. I'm struggling to breathe and can no longer fit into any of my clothes and of course I don't want to run out and buy any new clothes at this stage. I just cannot seem to get my act together at the moment. Everyday I say 'I'm going to start replacing at least one or two meals with Opti today' and everyday I end up stuffing my face!! What is wrong with me??
Kind regards,
P1xie xo |

...I still can't drive, but I am just getting back into the housework..
It was great when I asked my surgeon, at my seven week..first fill, if I could start doing stomach exercises, and he suggest I wait.
I said, 'Thats fine, so then, my husband will have to continue doing the washing , bed, floors and dishwshing?' He smiled and asked me if i wanted a note...got to love my surgeon.
I was banded 5th of August.. |

You need to check with your car insurance company what their restrictions are in relation to driving after surgery. Not all companies have the same restrictions, i.e. some one week, some two weeks and like mine so long as I had a Driver's Clearance from my surgeon I could drive. If you have an accident within their restricted non-driving period you will not be covered with insurance. I don't know how they would know if you had recent surgery but I think there might be a question on their claim form asking if you have had recent surgery and if so what date.

No problems - I'm sure by then if everything goes to plan you'll be fine. I was back at work on day 10 post op. I was lucky though that I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have 1 problem, no shoulder tip pain etc etc... Good luck with your surgery.... best thing I've ever done...

Thanks Di, I'll see how I go. My husband has a stags night 5 days after my op and he'll need me to pick him up as he won't take a chance on driving after he's had a couple of drinks.
Thanks

I notice my stupid daughter has been jumping around on this chat site abusing all you good people despite the good work you are doing to help yourselves.
I want to apologise for raising this ignorant, prejudiced, and stupid person - if I could turn back time I would.
Just so you know - she has been a 'shut in' for 10 years because of her weight. She hasn't been able to move further than the lounge for the last 2 years - and at 213 odd kg I worry so much that she will die here and i will have to get a crane in to get her out!!
Her only escape is the internet which I thought was good for her until I realised what she is doing to all of you - I feel so bad.
next time she gets on here and abuses you just ignore her - she can be a mean piece of work, yells at me all the time and calls me a fat *** even though she weighs about 100kg more than me!
Anyway - sorry once again - hopefully I can change her somehow - lord knows I can't get near her computer to change the parent control features. It is only because the district nurse is here that I can send this to you all.
She might kill me if she reads this!! |
