Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Hi everyone,

I had my update appointment today and it went well. My Doc says he is very happy with me and so am I ! Don't have to go back for three months although I only lost 3.5kgs in 8 weeks, he doesn't want me losing anymore quickly now that i am on the home stretch. At least if ( who am I kidding!)rephrase that to when I play up over the silly season I will have till March to be good!I do plan to ramp up the exercise over Summer anyway.Started this morning by stopping at every park bench on my 1.5 hour walk and doing ten chair dips, got to firm up the flapping under arms!
Just a tip for those that don't know, you shouldn't walk with weights in your hands as it is bad for your joints.

cheers,

Suzy

Ozze it is not the drinking it is the chucking! Just remember that alcohol seems to get you drunker quicker after the band. I can still drink as much but I just don't remember LOL

I dont see how having a few drinks can possibly cause your band to slip. Dont worry about it.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
random,

I doubt you have damaged anything. We all do things we shouldn't and as long as we don't do it often we usually get away with it. Just be aware that you do risk slipping the band but the pain in your port area is probably just from the bending over while vomiting. You may have lent on it.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Hi all,
I was banded on the 30 Oct 2008. Last night I had my first proper drink, and to many at that.
I ended up being sick and this morning am worried that this is bad.
I havent been sick once since being banded.
Where my port is located feels tender this morning.
Apart from that a little hung over but ok,have i done damage to my band?

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Thank you Cat,

I agree, I perhaps was a little rash with my comments. I will ignore all the rubbish and focus on the support.
I guess I was making myself part of the problem by re acting, which I rarely do. I was not in a happy place when I read back through those spiteful postings.

Thanks again

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Hi Galeras

I've got 1.8ml in a 4ml band. My weight loss has stalled big time, so i recently went and had .2ml put into my band - to take it up to 2ml. This ended up being too much, and had to go back and have the .2ml taken out again!

It just goes to show how sometimes a very small amount can make such a huge difference...

Good luck with it all
Simone :)

Hi Galeras
My first fill was 6mls but I had no restriction at all so I had another fill 3 weeks later of 3mls and I could not swallow the water, I threw it all up so he took 1.5mls out and now I have no restriction again. Am going back on Monday for another fill (2 weeks after my second fill). I'm going to try for .75mls and hopefully this will make a difference.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Hi galeras
i had my first fill 6 weeks post surgery and it was 5ml
but with only little restriction i have had an over fill with 9ml plus a 1ml fill total 10 ml could not even get my saliva down but it took 4hr to get to that stage
i could drink water OK first up but progressed to nothing over night had to have all the 1ml fill removed the next day and things have only started to settle 3 months on so good luck go slowly with the fills .5 and even .2 of a ml makes all the difference looking for the green zone takes time and patience

Leah,

The good far outweighs the bad on this site. After a while you don't notice it as much anymore and just ignore it. It is the price to be paid for such an informative, supportive, prolific , Australian forum. There are hundreds of threads on here.

All the best,
Cat

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Galeras,

I agree that you had a large first fill, but there are others on here that have that much first up as well. It's actually quite soon post op for you to be having fills so to go 5ml straight up your surgeon obviously wants you on the fast track to weight loss.

what you experienced was an overfill and unfortunately they do happen sometimes and are very unpleasant. Hopefully you won't be having too many of them on your weight loss journey.

Check out the fills thread http://au.messages.yahoo.com/lifestyle/lap-band/29 852/ and you'll see that it can happen and we do get over them.

Hi Everyone
This is my first post, I am three weeks post op and had my first fill today, 5ml. I vomited and vomited and had to have 2ml removed. Was not a great experience at all. Has this happened to anyone else?

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Leah

For someone who claims to be a "clinical social worker with a masters degree in human behavioural science. This person seems to have no real experience in the feild of lap banding. Seems to be only a want to be! I am sorry I do not mean to be rude, however, that is my professioal belief."

Your so called "professional belief" is so judgemental and so way off base it's out of the ball park. I suggest you do some retraining or further study before you attempt to categorise and treat people. I didn't and still don't have to join a Health Fund as you suggested, I've been covered by Top Cover Private Health since I was born, I transferred from my parent's fund and have been covered in my own name for 38 years. I didn't have to go on a public waiting list or save to have it done.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Leah,

You weren't rude at all and nor were you out of line. I just thought you should know that the person was/is banded.

There has been ongoing tensions with person in question and a number of people, including myself, over the years, usually it's over and done with and/or yahoo steps in. This time it has continued for a lot longer and more people have become involved as a consequence.

Some of us have tried to stay out of it and offer support to those that have braved the boards. I have no doubt it will all blow over again eventually, but there will always be times when the written word will be taken the wrong way because it can't convey the emotion or feeling behind it. It's then people need to learn to walk away from the keyboard and think before reacting.

Hi Leah...I was banded on the 28th May up here in Rockhampton by Dr Andrew Russell...I live in Gladstone Central Qld.I have lost 33.6kg so far and could not be happier. This was the best decision I could have made.I have had a relatively clean trouble free run with my band so far.The normal PB'S etc ;but that is fine.It is all part of the learning process.I hope that you are travelling along OK with your band. And tell me about your journey.......Col

Don't worry about it Skinny...you would be 100% correct...people will have been turned away by the incessant garbage and vitriol that has been on nearly every thread that is on this forum. It is hard t believe that after the rot that is written here sometimes and the anger and vile comments that come out that ,that they would be game to show up at the respective support meets and get togethers. We all have a common goal here and a lot of the time the support goes out the window and the personal agendas take over rather than any supportive advice being given.Humans, being the way we are; seem to keep checking in on these threads though. The c r a p should be kept away from the general threads rather than copied and pasted on every thread every day so that the real people don't get a look in or proper comment here as it is overpowered by the infighting.Apparently this has been going on for years and by the looks of it it is going to cotinue. There are some real damaged goods here and I would say ;some people are badly in need of some professional mental help.......Col
