| Glad to hear that things have improved for you Michelle. The food diary is vital and you must write down every morsel. If you don't the only person you are cheating is yourself. Plan your meals. Make sure the food you choose does not contain empty calories. I eat a lot of vegetarian choices these days. Lentils will go through but they take their time and keep you feeling full. Don't drink for 30 minutes before or 60 minutes after a meal. You dilute the food and wash it past the band, next thing you know your hungry again. Never drink calories. Learn to like Miso soup and water. Miso fills you up and gives that warm full feeling for ages. This is all about planning so make a plan for your sucess. Best wishes, Mack |

DeGas.
Coles has DeGas on special this week. Save $2.60 a box if my memory is right! Worth taking a look if you are in the store. |

Hey everyone, well after my dilema's this week with my violent vomiting, every night for 2 weeks. I rushed in to see the surgeon and all is well, he didn't think anything was stuck but he said my eating habits were wrong. I.e. not chewing enough, eating rice which always gets stuck. So they gave me some great suggestions and after implementing them 2 days ago. i haven't vomited since. Thank god as my throut is still saw from the other nights vomiting experience. I finally feel like I am on track. I just recently started keeping a food diary and realise how much bad food I pick at during the day. I think I will need to consentrate more during the day, anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

I had a month at the beginning where I only lost 4 pounds. I think you are still in the new stages where they are still letting your swelling go down and trying to get a good amount of restriction. No worries, you will be tight come that next fill. |

Most doctors recommend supplements for patients with bands. I take Berroca Performance and liquid Bio-Iron every day and there is a range of choice.
You need to check in with your surgical team for review. Your doctor will have taken base line bloods before surgery so comparison will be possible. Follow up is part of the program so make the call today.
If your weight has dropped significantly you may need adjustment to any regular medications. Your GP should have seen to this when you last saw them.
You do need to drink water so practice. Warm wishes for improvement. Mack |

| Hi every one just a question if any one can help me out I have been banded a year now and I am just wondering if any one else ever feels like this?????? I some times feel sickish and im not sure if its just not eating much through the day that makes you still sometimes get that queeziesh sensation, even that you dont realy feel like food? I also some times feel very dizzy and I think the Dr mentioned it was my lack of fluid input as I dont drink enough now because I just forget and when I do remember to its too late because im alreagy dizzy and the room is already spinning like mad.I find it hard to sip through the day as im just used to drinking with my meal like prior to my op. I think I need to be on some kind ot vitamine what do you all take as I find it hard to find one that isint the size of a horse tablet? Thankyou Jannine |

| Hi Jude i was banded a year ago today amd have lost 23 kgs all up thats weight befour optifast too. It is not a fast process at all it feels like u only loose little bits hers and there but at the end of a yr you can see well 23 kgs is 23 kgs less than I was a yr ago and at the time you loose I know how dissapointing it is when it only says 1 or 2 kgs between fills but my point is you will get there even that you feel your not moving at the moment cheer up. I have only recently found that I have good restriction and am also dissapointed that since my last fill I have only lost a kg and I cant eat much at all so I will need to take a leaf out of your book and bump up the exercise as I have been slack :(. Good luck Jannine. |

Jude, any loss is good loss, you are right. So just hang in there... still early days for you and you will surely get into the swing of things.
I have to say, the best thing we can all do for ourselves is walk. Even if it is only 15 minutes a day, it is better than nothing. I have done just little bits the last few days, but tomorrow I am heading out for a 30 minute walk... no excuses. I have had almost two weeks off and it is not good... I can feel the muscles and flab doing the wrong thing.
Jude.. you will be fine.

Jude... it is hard work. It is not the easy way out at all I can tell you. We have fills, unfills.... we can't eat this, we can't eat that... we need vitamin suppliments, we need to exercise to help ourselves.
Okay... so this is normal bandit life. But, we have done such a wonderful and positive thing for ourselves that we must keep at it, get on with it and be proud of our achievements.
Hang in there, all will be ok as time goes on.

You are so spot on. I agree with you completely.
we are all different, do different things are different ages etc etc. so long as you are happy with your weight loss nothing else matters.
For me so long as its going down wards, not up then each gram makes a difference. |

| Ok, thanks for all the input. I just like to see if my experiences are the same as other bandits. Sounds pretty much right on. The reason I was asking about the weight loss of others is to gauge if I'm too tight or not. I've lost 20lb a month for the last 2 months for a total of 60lb since surgery and a total of 70 including the presurgery loss. I don't even try bread. No fries or other sticky stuff within the first 2 weeks after a fill. Usually, the night before a fill, I eat a decent meal of enchiladas and beans, and even a tortilla (corn). Thanks for all the info! |

Hi rkfhop2
I now have 5.5ml fill ( I was banded on 30 July) and a couple of weeks ago had a couple of episodes of PBing, with mine I have almighty pain for a while then a feeling that I may vomit then I stand in the bathroom for a while and usually I bring up a bit of mucus and sometimes the offending food is brought out as well although a couple of times I have upped more. It certainly has taught me to slow down more and watch what I eat (those hungarian parmesan rolls from Bakers Delight are a no-no for me) I am very cautious when eating out.

Hi, I pb quite often. Usually if I haven't chewed enough. I try and use a teaspoon or child's fork to eat with.
I was soo annoyed on Monday night, I went out to a buffet meal $25 a head. I put about a cup of food on my plate, looked nice, (everyone else's was piled soooo high, made me really think about how much some ppl over eat :-( I was able to eat the squid, then tried the curry.....nope, had to run out...then tried the chicken..nope had to run out or walk quickly.
So for my $25 I had a glass of water...not bad...hahaha

Oh - and in response to the question of weight loss - I've just checked my chart, and I lost 38 kgs in the first 5 months after surgery. Now, I will clarify that by saying I put in LOTS of effort, hardly put a foot wrong, counted calories for the first couple months, and I had a MUCH higher starting point than most (167.5 at banding). Admittedly I didn't start exercising until 3 months post op, but once I did, I didn't stop.
I'm sure that is by no means the average. A lot of it will depend on your metabolism, how closely you follow the rules, amount of exercise, how much you have to lose, etc etc. Everyone is different. To be honest, I don't know that it serves much purpose to compare yourself to others. As long as you are doing your best, just be satisfied that you are doing all you can. And . . . . . . we all have days when the food choices are not so good! :-) |

I just looked at my food diary and i have noticed that I have vomited once or twice EVERYDAY for the last 8 days. And i am now scared to eat anything. HELP! I have made an appointment with the surgeons nurse this afternoon. So hopefully I can get some advice there.

rkfhop2 - I can't answer for others, but for me a pb is very much a forced effort. I very rarely get things stuck, but when I do, it's a major production on my part to get something to happen. I generally can't bring anything back up except some mucus, and whatever I've used to try to shift the offending item, such as cider vinegar. It's not like throwing up, as the pb is extracting what is in the pouch, so there are no gastric juices involved, as they are in the lower stomach.
I believe some lucky people can actually get the offending item to return. For me it usually makes it's way through down the tube at some stage. I must be a very 'grounded' person - LOL - gravity takes hold and what goes down is not coming back up! |

Babs,
I would imagine most "fashion advisors" would suggest you wear loose legged pants to give the illusion of a fuller leg and wear fitted tops to thin the top of you down. If you try and make the top of yourself look smaller and the bottom a little fuller you will be on the right track.
My mother hase your shape for sure! She look hillarious in tappered pants, like two pins holding up a beer barrel we tell her!

Hi all,
This may seem a silly question but I am having terrible trouble getting my head around to where my body size is. I went to the big smoke for shopping yesterday. After a month away from real retail therapy I was like a kid stuck in a lolly shop. As time is limited by the 6 hour return trip I thought I knew what I had to get and do it fast. Instead I found myself automatically going into bigger sizes and wasting time swapping clothes until the right size.
I was so frustrated and thinking how does one work out what style actually suits them now? How does one 'win' a make over to show you what to look for?
Frustrating as I am size 14 top and size 10 shorts where the imbalance can be laughable.I am still re-sculpturing with gym and boot camps so this will change-I hope! Do you use big flowy shirts cover up your thin legs or do you use belts? I just do not know anymore. Anyone else similar? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Nobody told me about this confusion possiblity before. Thanks Barb |

Greetings Michelle, this is not a satisfactory outcome and you need to go back to basics. Your surgeon and his team should be helping you. May I suggest a book called The Lap-Band Solution by Paul O'Brien MD. You should be able to get it from the big bookstores.
Consider going onto Opti for a couple of weeks. This will kick start your weight loss and give the band site a rest as there is swelling from frequent vomiting.
Consider finding a new doctor to guide your care.
The fact you are not loseing weight despite the food intolerance means you are getting calories from somewhere. Keep a strict food diary for a couple of weeks. Write down every bite, every lick, every sip no matter how small.
This forum is a great place to find advice to put you back on track but only you can put it into action. You need to Lap-Band your mind as well as your stomach. The hard part is done so lets work on the last bit and get you on track for the sucess you deserve. Mack |
