Colleen,
Buffeted, means just bumped it around a bit, you may have created some small tears or bruised it but really nothing worth worrying about. Again though, if it's more painful tomorrow or if you are concerned, don't hesitate to ring your surgeon. that's what you paid him for!

Colleen,
just take it easy tomorrow but if the pain gets worse contact your surgeon, you've probably just buffeted some of the new scar tissue that was forming around the band/stomach.

Hi all ...
I have been looking for a Dr in Melb. i moved here about 8 months ago and am stressing out. A few said go to knox or The Avenue clinic they wanted for $2200 to $1200 to take me on as a new client, and to keep up health insurance for fills. As i payed for my surgery with my life savings and have no super or health insurance i can not afford the luxtury. I talked to one office lady who told me that there is a DR in Templestown, Dr Monk has any one been to him i am excited and anxious to know wot he is like.
Thank you for all ur replys and sorry in advance for my spelling errors..

my wound became reopened and l was told not to use betedine on it as you will burn the new cells with it. when you use it on an everyday cut it is only a surface thing. when you have surgery new cells grow to enclose the opening. l cleaned it only with saline you can get from the chemist along with water proof dressings. placing some gause on it will also draw away any moisture. when l went to the surgeon he checked my wound and said he would have suggested the exact same thing. Go see your surgeon or at least call you may need seaweed dressings to promote cell growth and this you can only get from the doctor. l had this problem with both my banding and then my bypass and the bypass one opened a hole you could fit your thumb in. With the saline and dressings it is now fully healed with no problems. Although if you are getting puss out of it you will probably need antibiotics so call your surgean.

brookesgerry.
I know what you mean about healing wounds like when the kids hurt themselves, your mum's diabetic complication etc.
I was just concerned that the 5 little holes that are created into your belly go right into your abdominal cavity, slightly different from the wounds kids inflict on themseleves etc.
Thus creating a tract for the stuff to travel down.
I was just a bit concerned about the application to that particular type of wound.
I am sure it will sort out okay in the end. |

No problem angel, as I said I have been a diabetic for 11 yrs now and my mum (now passed on) was also a diabetic, she lost one of her toes to the diabetes and the only thing that would heal the area was the Hydrogen Peroxide and the betadine.
And there have been many times over the yrs myself or the kids have hurt themselves and the combination of the 2 is great, you literally heal in just a matter of days.
Strangely enough when my cat had an abscess from a fight with another cat, my vet recommended the Hydrogen Peroxide to heal and clean out the abscess, so it has many uses. LOL |

Kaye,
It may be an adhesion forming around your port. Which in itself isn't a bad thing. I'd be giving the centre a call on Monday and making an appointment to see Audry sooner rather than later. it may be nothing but it really does need to be checked.

Oh Okay,
I didn't realise it was a different strength as I don't buy it.
I get all my supplies from our local hospital. |

| Hi angel of scuba, the Hydrogen Peroxide that you purchase from the chemist or supermarket is a weaker solution so it is not harmful at all, it is very safe to use and docs often recommend it to cleanse and sterilize a wound site. |

Katie.
I wouldn't put Hydrogen Peroxide on the wound until you have had it checked by your doctor...
Remember, that this is not a sore or other injury this is a hole that goes straight into your peritoneal cavity, where your other organs are situated.
I wouldn't want Hydrogen Peroxide tracking its way into my peritoneum.
In theatre they use Betadine to spalsh all over you including putting it inside you so you know Betadine is safe.
if you have pus etc coming out it needs to be checked.
Don't panic if you have used it, just wait until you get the go ahead.
You could even ring your emergency or after hours number for their phone advice. |

Could you have pulled a muscle??? Not sure to be honest. I would keep your eye on it and make sure the area around the port does not get red or swollen. If it is not feeling better tomorrow, give your surgeons office a ring tomorrow and ask their opinion. Better to get it checked.

To all great wise Lapbanders,
It has been great following all of your journeys and now I need a bit of advice. I began Optifast in April last year (doctors advice) lost 24 kgs then was banded in September last year and have lost another 11 kgs so have gone from 115 to 80kgs - and added a big smile to my face. I have had a very lucky journey - no dramas and only PB once - very comfortable with the whole thing. My last fill was a couple weeks ago and I am getting close to the sweet point (I think). My dilemma is that since Friday my port area has been really, really sore as well as that painful pulling feeling down to my left groin area that a lot of us seemed to suffer straight after surgery. (I see Audrey at the Avenue) Any ideas?
Still a bit Stumpy!! |

Thanks for all the advice. The wound got infected because it was moist with sweat, as it is positioned in a skin fold.

Hi Katie,
I used to nurse at an aged care centre some years back and we used Hydrogen Peroxide for wound care and Betadine. You can buy them at the Chemist or supermarket. The Hydrogen Peroxide bubbles up and cleans and sterilizes the wound site and the Betadine keeps the wound site dry and is a great healer.
I have been a diabetic for over 11 yrs now and swear by these 2 combinations for any sore or wound that looks a bit yuck.
Also great for treating cold sores just a little tid bit of info.
Try these and see how you go, I'm sure they will make a great difference. The most important thing with a wound is not to keep it moist. If you can get out in the sunshine and the fresh air that is great also.
All the best,
Gerry |
