Unfortunately night shift is part of the deal Kerri and I've done my share as a midwife. I have a friend you is a full time night manager and he has lost nearly 50 kilo this year! He is sticking to the program and established an eating pattern that suits his roster. Switching between nights and days makes it hard.
Stress is a big factor especially with shift workers who often struggle with their weight. You always seem to be coming when everyone else is going. Try and develop a pattern that is constant and don't eat before you settle down to sleep.
Warm wishes for sucess, Mack |

Im a night shift worker and my biggest problem is reflux the docs say dont eat after 8pm and 6am and i do drink and eat to stay awake!!
Are you sure you havent got a bug or food posining first?? Normally if i feel crook i drink gaterade for a few days.
stress is sometimes what causes the band to feel really tight to. I also work as nurse for a tetrapledgic.
take care maybe get it checked first thing in the morning |

Any night shift workers out there?
I have just finished my astint of night shift (I am student midwife), 3 nights in a row. I have lost 3kg in 3 nites from vomitting and nausea and no sleep. I got myself worked up about this to the point I was going to go to emergency last night to get some fill out cause I couldn't even keep down water. This is not good. It is not healthy and I don't know how I am going to have a career I love that involves night shift.
Any survival tips would be so very welcome.
Thanks.

Hi Alex,
Have you tried Millers and Katies for clothing in the styles you like? They sell 3/4 length sleeved tops because I used to ONLY wear those types before my arm surgery to remove the hanging skin and found those shops very good.
They also have pants which go up to the waistline instead of sitting on your hips which might suit you better atm? :)
Hope that helps

HI, Iam 51 banded since Oct 08 have lost a touch over 40kgs. Weighing in at 90kgs. I am now wearing size 16 bottoms and 18-20 in tops ( depending on the brand.) I live in a regional country area and I am having difficulty buying clothes for my age group, (that doesn't cost the earth) and preferably with 3/4 kength sleeves. I have been on-line but have not found anything that "startles" me.
Does anyone have any recommendations,( either shops or on-line stores) maybe I am becoming too fussy, but I have hardly anything to wear at the moment. Alex |

Dear Storm
I have not had to move etc, but I would think that it would be a good idea to contact your banding surgeon and say you are moving, and ask for a referral to a Dr in your new area. That way you know you are going to see someone who knows about bands, and the new Dr would then have access to your old records by asking the original Dr to send them. hope you find someone. |

| hi pamela, optifast shrinks your liver so that the surgeons dont have a huge organ to try to move away with their tiny instruments to get to your stomach to place the band, if it is too large then they have to try to hold up a huge weight with the laproscopy tools and the liver is soft and can be damaged if one of these were to perforate it, my surgeon was doctor hopkins at the royal brisbane womens hospital, just check with your doctor if you are unsure i dont know what happens in your case with your poycytic kidney disease, i had to go on optifast for 4 weeks as i had a large liver hope i have been of help deb |

Hi Deb
I am new to the list and am being banded on 20 November but my surgeon did not mention Optifast and I don't talk to the dietician until the 10th. I asked the surgeon about the size of my liver as I have Polycytic Kidney Disease which also means I have cysts in the liver so my liver is big anyway. Dr Dolan just said they would move the liver to one side when I asked him about it. I wondered why they need the liver small and who your surgeon was.

Ok, so after waiting two years I have finally got my first appointment re lap-band on the public system on December 2nd at sir Charles Gairdner hospital Perth. Is there anything I should know about what sort of things they ask at the first appointment. Is there anything that I should NOT say so as not to put myself in a bad light with them?
Is there any truth in the story that they will band lighter people over the really heavy ones with other issues apart from just the weight first? Sorry to be a pain, just curious |

You can have Supradyn or Berocca whilst on mushies and liquids... just let them sit for a while before sipping on them.

I cut the Centrum 50+ in half, but the fish oil I just swallow, they will dissolve so even if they were to get stuck it would not be a problem (except perhaps ending up burping fishoil...yuk).
I have not had any problems so far. The dietitian said the hole left would be as big as a pea, so anything smaller than that would be ok. |

Hi Fairy, I didnt take then at first to worried they would get stuff now I take Ethical Nutrients hi-strenght fish oil it is liquid form come in a 170ml bottle and you take 5 mls a dayI bought it from a small health food shop approx $45 but im sure if you shop around you will get it cheaper.
I also cut my Centrum up into 4 my thinking is even though I only have 1 ml in my band this is the time to prepare for when it is tighter.

I didn't take mine until I was back onto normal food.
I can take them okay now as they just slide down.
But the centrum vitamins, I have to cut in half.
Not sure if you could cut them and add it to a shake or something. someone will tell you, I just didn't worry about it for that short time.

Hi Amber...
Congratulations on your surgery date... always a time for a few nerves. As for the opti, I am sorry that I can't help as my surgeon didn't request me to do that side of things.
There is a good opti thread above in the sticky threads... might be worth reading and asking for advise there.
Best wishes
