Dear Storm
I have not had to move etc, but I would think that it would be a good idea to contact your banding surgeon and say you are moving, and ask for a referral to a Dr in your new area. That way you know you are going to see someone who knows about bands, and the new Dr would then have access to your old records by asking the original Dr to send them. hope you find someone. |

| hi pamela, optifast shrinks your liver so that the surgeons dont have a huge organ to try to move away with their tiny instruments to get to your stomach to place the band, if it is too large then they have to try to hold up a huge weight with the laproscopy tools and the liver is soft and can be damaged if one of these were to perforate it, my surgeon was doctor hopkins at the royal brisbane womens hospital, just check with your doctor if you are unsure i dont know what happens in your case with your poycytic kidney disease, i had to go on optifast for 4 weeks as i had a large liver hope i have been of help deb |

Hi Deb
I am new to the list and am being banded on 20 November but my surgeon did not mention Optifast and I don't talk to the dietician until the 10th. I asked the surgeon about the size of my liver as I have Polycytic Kidney Disease which also means I have cysts in the liver so my liver is big anyway. Dr Dolan just said they would move the liver to one side when I asked him about it. I wondered why they need the liver small and who your surgeon was.

Ok, so after waiting two years I have finally got my first appointment re lap-band on the public system on December 2nd at sir Charles Gairdner hospital Perth. Is there anything I should know about what sort of things they ask at the first appointment. Is there anything that I should NOT say so as not to put myself in a bad light with them?
Is there any truth in the story that they will band lighter people over the really heavy ones with other issues apart from just the weight first? Sorry to be a pain, just curious |

You can have Supradyn or Berocca whilst on mushies and liquids... just let them sit for a while before sipping on them.

I cut the Centrum 50+ in half, but the fish oil I just swallow, they will dissolve so even if they were to get stuck it would not be a problem (except perhaps ending up burping fishoil...yuk).
I have not had any problems so far. The dietitian said the hole left would be as big as a pea, so anything smaller than that would be ok. |

Hi Fairy, I didnt take then at first to worried they would get stuff now I take Ethical Nutrients hi-strenght fish oil it is liquid form come in a 170ml bottle and you take 5 mls a dayI bought it from a small health food shop approx $45 but im sure if you shop around you will get it cheaper.
I also cut my Centrum up into 4 my thinking is even though I only have 1 ml in my band this is the time to prepare for when it is tighter.

I didn't take mine until I was back onto normal food.
I can take them okay now as they just slide down.
But the centrum vitamins, I have to cut in half.
Not sure if you could cut them and add it to a shake or something. someone will tell you, I just didn't worry about it for that short time.

Hi Amber...
Congratulations on your surgery date... always a time for a few nerves. As for the opti, I am sorry that I can't help as my surgeon didn't request me to do that side of things.
There is a good opti thread above in the sticky threads... might be worth reading and asking for advise there.
Best wishes

Megg... I hope you are ok. You need to make contact with your surgeon asap and get this sorted... if you can't get water down you will get very dehydrated and you will end up in hospital.
I hope you have gotten some help.

| You will get through it because you have already mentally made the decision, now just for the homestretch. I just kept thinking about what the surgeon told me, that if I didn't stay on the liquid diet before the surgery, that my liver wouldn't shrink enough and he would call the surgery off if my liver was not small enough. That scared me enough to stay on the liquids.......I did have one slip up, but once won't hurt. Good luck and welcome to this board. I look forward to following your progress. BTW, I am 4 1/2 months banded. |

If You can't even keep water down, then you must go to your surgeon.
it can take a while for the swelling to go down but if you are not taking in fluid you will become dehydrated quite quickly.
not to mention your lack of medication, depending on what thats for.
I don't know how long since your last fill but its not something you want to delay.
good luck Mary |

Hi Amber,
Congrats on your date for surgery, have you logged onto the November bandits 2009 thread or the December thread, as you haven't mentioned which month.
Joining the these threads you will be able to chat with other people who are going through the same feelings as yourself and you can support each other through this stage of your journey.
I have been banded now for 6 months and it has been the best decision I have ever made, I so wish I had done this years ago instead of the yo yo dieting and self hatred at not achieving a permanent weight loss.
So far I have lost just over 20kgs and am looking forward to seeing the other 20kgs disappear.
Best of luck with your journey.

i use herbalife protein powder, i mix it with milk skim and strawberry quik each day its abotu 20.00 a conatiner and it last a month.
hope that helps.
to the other lady who cant eat or swallow, my thoughts are you may have a blockage and will have to wait for swelling to go down, can you go to ur local hospital, maybe they can take some fill out. If you feel a blockage try some apple cider vinegar or pineapple juice, mine has been milk lately works a treat. Its not recomended but a gulp of coke and a qick vomit which results from the coke(sorry) works if urgent need, my doc told me to only do this in a dire need of urgency. |
