Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
I'd like to introduce myself because I would like to come here more frequently and see how people are doing. I am Rhonda, I am set for surgery on June 12, with Dr. Castro in Plano, TX. I've been working on the whole insurance 'hoops' for over a year and the date is finally here. After I got the hang of the liquids thing, I was okay. I learned to NEVER the house without taking an Optifast with me. You never know when that hunger is going to sneak up on you.
I feel I have been about 80% good about the liquids thing, preop, but I am afraid that the doc will go in and decide my liver isn't shrunk enough. Did anyone have that problem?

Thanks

Hi All,
Just a question, I am 3 weeks post banded and my weight loss has only been 2kg and it is slowing. I get my first fill next week. Is this normal and will the weight loss pick up again? I am really disappointed with myself. I lost 4 kg in the 2 weeks leading up to surgery on OptiFast which was great. Looking forward to hearing your replies.

Today is my 12month bandaversary... I want to thank all of the ladies and gents who have suffered through my long winded moaning this last 12 months.

When I started I never thought it would actually work for me...but it did.

Thanks to you all.....I made it!

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Mel,
thats a great Idea. I hope your hand surgery goes okay, I am sure it will.
I saw the orthopaedic surgeon today about my hip. we have agreed to just sit tight and see if it happens again. If it does, it means I will have to have part of the replacement replaced. does that make sense? I don't see any need to subject myself to majory surgery when it may not happen again. Of course if it is ends up being a pain in the you know what, well then I will reconsider.
I really need to fix the arm first. there is no way on earth I could use crutches at the moment.
I also told him.
I have never had so many things go wrong as they are at the moment, especially having lost so much weight. I thought that would be good for my joints ?? not sure about that now .
so I am going to send the computer in to be mended while I am in hospital in the mean time. I will use it as is.

My husband and I both use it, we are not banded (I will be this Friday), but, it works really well if you use it daily.
It's not like TUMS where it works on an existing burn, but it helps prevent future burn.

Hi Patti

I just read about your first fill experience. You poor thing! My surgeon had a little bit of difficulty but nothing like your experience.

Hi Patti

I just discovered your msg. Sorry! I havent been on here for ages. I hope all went well with your first fill. I had my first fill a couple of weeks ago. 4mls and no difference. I have only lost 6kg post op. I only have myself to blame for that. I find I can eat anything and I have been a social butterfly. I am back on track today. I am in the zone and back to following the rules. I guess that is why I signed here today.........

Mel,

Ring them the day before so the admitting nurse can follow this through, I can't eat sandwiches either, you could ask for something like jelly, ice cream or whatever you feel you could get down.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
I am having surgery on my hand next week, carpal tunnel and something on the top to do with tendon tubes being clogged or something? Anyways i am on the all day list, but i told them i think that if i am in the afternoon and have to fast, i know i will be sick when i have food after it. As it is only day stay they normally give you sandwiches, so i put on there that i can not eat them. I hope all goes well, im worrying about the fast bit, and the eating after it bit lol

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
the reason they put you on optifast is to shrink a fatty liver and make it soft as they do move it during surgery usually 2 weeks if you get past the first 2 days it gets easy from there good luck

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Glad to hear that the surgery wasn't as painful as you thought it might be. I am sheduled for the 10th of July, after having surgery postponed from Feb, due to elevated CK levels. Doc just wanted to make sure that I wasn'd going to arrest, lol. I have to go through all the pre surgery jitters again. I havent yet been told if i have to start liquid diet before surgery or not. I'm sure she( Doc) told me last time that I had to

dear grnps

I have sleep apenea and, as far as I am aware, it only affects the breathing... while vomiting come from the stomach. My sleep machine keeps my airways open and I do not think it has any effect on the stoma.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
just wondering if anyone has tried papaya enzyme before? apparently it helps with reflux and digestion. its particularly good if you've got meat stuck as it breaks down proteins. an aunty of mine in america has the band and swears by it!

Oh - that was fast.

That's kind of what I thought, which is why I was surprised when I saw another response elsewhere (I wish I could find it again - it'd be great to ask the person who wrote it).

Thanks for that,
Sdem

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Hi i answered this on the other thread. If its not a pre-existing condition you may not meet the criteria for lap band surgery. Usually you need to be overweight more than a year and have tried other methods to lose weight.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
Hi all.

I've just posted my question on another thread, so forgive me if you're reading both, but I think my question might have a better response on this thread.

I read on another thread that someone who took out private health insurance only had to wait two months for their surgery. For some reason it wasn't considered a pre-existing problem.

Has anyone else found this? I need to take out private health insurance, and would love to be banded after the initial two months, instead of waiting 12 months (and I don't have enough super to cover it).

Cheers!

re. facebook, i only keep mine to play uno on with my grand children.lol.......i built up a few to many on it so closed it down then deleted all except my girls. i couldn't delete the others so easily before, as some worked for my daughter. i have now found out how to not have to see the what happens daily insidents so may start again.

Re:General Chat #4 Reply to this message
gmps, as soon as poss i would go to a gp and get a referral to see a sleep specialist.
this happens with sleep apnea but also can be a too tight band that needs a tad out.
there is a sleep apnea thread on here but there is a very good one at
health.groups./yahoo.com/ group/cpapusers/
cheers and hope it works out soon for you
