Make sure you return those shopping trolley mate. They don't belong to you.

Headbanging is very old fashioned. Try moshing and crowdsurfing. Much more fun, if done safely.

To the person below with the little girl. Try and educate her as you would if they are too near the stove. Keep repeating HOT, HOT, HOT. Hopefully they will learn the difference. That's what my sister did with her son. He never went near the stove as a toddler.

Just a simple right and wrong tactic. Good luck

I headbang hard to Slipknot and System of a Down. Im a headbanging drumming freak. Im 13. I live in Chicago and Im know to be one of the jackasses in the group. I watch Jackass. I stole a shopping cart from a store and we did the shopping carts thing(one person is in the cart and the other person pushes it as fast as they can running into a curb or something to make the person in the cart go flying.)I dont know why I wrote that. Anyways, dont headbang too hard for too long. I swear for a day your head will drop down easily and it will be sore the next 2 days. Bye

Maybe shes a real rocker or she saw either you doing it or someone on tv. Headbanging too hard is dangerous. Im a major headbanger. I broke a bone or broke some nerves in my neck for a day and the next two days it was sore. Take her too a doctor if she does it every day. Keep her head and neck healthy

I strongly advise you to seek advice from a Paediatrician. If this continues past the age of 3, visit a developmental paediatrician.

Re:headbanging Reply to this message
My 13 month old daughter has recently started headbanging. Initially I tried to ignore it but she now does it daily and seems to constantly have a bruise on her forehead.I thought that the pain would make her stop, but all she does is cry and then bang her head again, cry bang cry bang! Why does she do it and is it a sign of something more sinsiter?

My oldest boy (now 18yrs) used to headbutt all the time - until one day he did it particularly hard on the concrete - never did it again - went on to be social/sporty/vice captain at school and just got into Communications @ uni - so no probs there - my youngest - (2yrs) has just started headbutting - I'm not so concerned this time round:)

Re:headbanging Reply to this message
My daughter started at about 6mths, she is now 20 months and still continues to drive us mad with this headbanging. Like your daughter, it doesn't bother or hurt her (even though we have had to fix chips/dents where her cot bashes the wall). Some mornings she even wakes up with dents in her forehead from the bars on her cot. She seems to be at her worst when she's getting sick, teething or over-tired.

I took her to the local clinic nurse who said this was a common issue and said it was a manner of self-soothing. One remedy we were told was when our daughter started to rock/headbang we were to gently lie her flat (in her cot) and place her hand on a teddy (or something soothingly tactile) and teach her to stroke the teddy. This involves getting up to her everytime she starts during the night until they learn to look for the teddy to stroke rather than headbang.

Admittedly, with a slightly older child still demanding time during the night I have found it alot easier to soundproof her room with carpet and put the cot further away from the wall of our bedroom. It's amazing what noise you can sleep through when you're really tired! Hoping she will grow out of it.....

my daughter (18mths) bangs her head all the time, when she's upset or just excited. It doesn't seem to bother her half as much as it bothers me though!

Has anyone encountered this, and found any solutions?
