| am a Colic SUFFERER,i am an ADULT mother of 3 , 55 years old , just been giving some sleep to my daughter and son in law due to a "colicky",9 week old baby also with reflux ! FACT !colic is a problem of motility in the intestine , the muscles that move the wastes through to the bowel , CRAMP and cause EXTREME pain, wind , is caused because the musles are not functioning properly, reflux is the valve at the top of the stomach , allowing food and mainly stomach acid to come up into the throat again this causes PAIN and EXTREME DISCOMFORT, I have suffered Colic most of my adult life and when ( DOCS and so called EXPERTS ) tell you its your stress that is causing baby to cry constantly ETC ETC !!! PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR CHILD IS IN EXTREME PAIN!!! and the treatments given do not harm them if used as directed IF YOU AND CHILD ARE GIVEN RESPITE FROM THE STRESS OF BEING TOO TIRED AND ALL THE PAIN, DO WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT ,and yes they do not all work for every child , with treatments it is trial and error, but as a mother you are constantly treated with a lack of respect, treated as if YOU are causing the childs problems, very rarely is this so, if your child is suffering and you see this , YOU live with this child 24 hours a day , lets face it its easier for docs etc to treat us as neurotic than try and do their job if they have very little to offer, My daughters chid had stopped smiling and had been crying almost continuosly for he past week, and from birth was crying close to half the day, they were told it was normal, UTTER ROT, once a baby is fed, changed ,soothed and slept , they cry up to a couple of hours a day at most , if it is a lot more then YOUR BABY IS SUFFERING and dont be put off by all the bad advise, if medication is needed then it is not harmful, the STRESS OF PAIN AND DISTRESS IS MUCH MORE DAMAGING ,My daughters child has been given a reflux & colic medication,We now have a HAPPY SMILING baby, so dont be put off YOUR BABY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT |

hi, im a mother of 3 and i never had any trouble with any if my kids untill the third one. He cant have normal formula because he is intolarent to normal milk. Then he wouldnt bring he wind up, well not all of it. I was going crazy, pulling my hair out thinking whatas wrong. Iv JUST bought "Gripe Water", and i tell you what.... iv only giving it twice so far.... he was asleep in less than 5 minutes. That stuff is magic. He hasnt cryed since hes had it and its wonderful. I would recomend "Gripe Water" over Infocol or anything like that. Infocol makes all the gas into one big burp. But "Gripe Water" warms the stomach(the herbs do that) and that seems to help alot. Any way you can all make up your own mind. But dont knock it untill you have tryed it.
Happy Monther..... NOW |

I got slack and put my now five month-old refluxing screamer (also known as the terrorist in our home for hijacking his mum and dad's sleep) onto Zantac, which I give only when he screams, contrary to the doctor's advice of three times daily as a preventative.
However, I've modified my diet significantly to help him out. I've noticed that spicy foods turn him into a blood curdling, back-arching lunatic, and a very plain diet - bread, veggies, rice and chicken is fine (no over the top flavourings). He's not good with red meat, which I found easy to eliminate, but kangaroo seems to be ok.
From a dietary analysis perspective, high fibre and high protein with supplements seems to be working best. |

| Hi, I am a mum of 2 and my oldest daughter, turning 5 in April, suffered from terrible colic as a baby. I now work from home selling nutritional products & one of the products we sell is Herbal Aloe Drink. This is wonderful for soothing the digestive system, our product is all natural & a small amount can be added to bubs bottle, it is safe for anyone to use. I use it for myself & swear by it. If interested go to my website http://herbalhealth.waistcontrol.com for more information. You can contact me through the website also if needed. I hope this helps. You can purchase Herbal Aloe else where but as I'm sure you're aware all products my be the same in basic nature but can contain a lot of different ingredients so I don't know if they are safe for infants. We have testimonials supporting our success with colic babies. I wish I was in this business when my daughter was suffering. Good luck |

Be careful with the burping. With our son, it over-stimulated him and made it worse. My suggestion:
Buy a big EXERCISE BALL
Fill it all the way and sit on it with him and bounce him. Be sure your baby is bouncing with you and that you are supporting the baby's head. This wil hurt your back after a while so:
take turns with other people
When baby is big enough, strap a "My Breast Friend" boppy pillow around your waist and sit your baby on it while you bounce
Get a Baby Bjorn snuggli holder and strap the baby on while you bounce.
It also can help to use the shushing noise while on the ball.
(I also use the snuggli to breastfeed our boy in an upright position. I put it low enough so that my breast can fit through the slot. This helps when he is hungry but his stomach is too upset to lie down)
I tried everything. Colic drops of various brands, "The Happiest Baby on the Block" techniques. Pretty much anything I could find in a book or on the internet. And this was the only thing that worked. And it works every time. but he knows the difference between bouncing him in a regular way and the ball. Your back will get stronger with time and you will be able to do it for longer. |

| Ok there are a lot of people on here simply recommending some kind of ingested medication. You need to try something that does not involve your baby ingesting anything. Like mentioned on all the posts, every baby is different. I was lucky enough to have white noise work for my baby. Its obviously natural, no side effects and it works with a lot of fussy babies. Its simply noise to mimic what the baby heard in the womb. You can do this countless ways like taking a drive in your car or turning on your vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, etc. We tried the vacuum and our baby was always out like a light but it was too loud for me and my husband so i just bought a cd online and that way i can lower the volume so my husband and i dont have to hear it in our room. Theres a bunch of websites that sell them, just google it, i bought mine from www.byebyecrybaby.com i only remember it cause its a cute name. |

| Just so everyone knows Grip Water does not work on all babies..In fact it hurt mine worse he scrame for hours after the intake of it...:( I tried it all, different formulas, walking all night long, trying to comfort him in all ways. At the doctors every other day! At my wits end. Nothing worked!!! Until I found Bagby Chiropractor that specialized in the nervous system of the stomach, and it was amazing the difference it made! I was so excited, my child finally had some relief! If interested try it anything helps when your baby is in pain and there is nothing you can do, you feel so helpless!! He is located in renton Wa. and I am telling you it is sooooo worth it! It was like a new child! He could finally relax!! His number is 425-251-9770...Try it I promise there will be no regrets! I wish I could tell the world my story, since no one seems to have the cure for colic and no one seems to think there is anything to comfort these new babaies! Mine is now 11 months and a joy but the first 15 weeks of life for him was such a struggle!! And with the chiro's care he was able to have some relief! My baby was so bad he has not poohed for 3 weeks and even docotors said they could do nothing! So trust me I know how this feels and I would suggest to everyone they go see him. Not only will he work majic, he is also a wonderful person!! Thanks! |

| Hello I just wanted to tell people that my child did not sleep or pooh for 3 weeks and I finally got so tired I could not take it. I took him to a Chiroprator that specialized in the stomach nerve system and it worked, totally new child!! So I want to get word out there...The docs do not have the answers at all when it comes to this...:) So he is located in Renton and his number is 425-251-9770...Trust me it is worth it! For relief for your baby and you!! Good luck!!! |

| Try feeding smaller amounts at a time, for example 30 mls of milk then sit up. continue until bottle is empty. W resorted to this method for our son and it seemed to ease his pain. |

My baby (now 13m) was a very colicky baby when he was little, and i tried Marina Infant Formula by Morzones Pharmaceuticals. Although it worked i was still perplexed as to the reason why it was occurring. Then my lactation consultant told me to change my diet as i was breastfeeding. I had to cut out all foods that were known to be highly allergenic, this meant no eggs, milk, bread (especially white, but i cut it all out) and soy products. I was then to re-introduce each food one by one very slowly and watch for signs of colic. I finally realised that it was the milk, so i switched to lactose free milk, but still no good. basically soy or rice milk was fine (not very tasty though) and there was no longer need for Marina infant formula. Also once i put him onto formula i was advised to use goats milk formuls because the proteins in it are the closest to human breastmilk. works a treat, and apparently he will grow out of it and handle cows milk much better within 3 to 5 years.
Hope this is of some help....good luck |

| hi...i was wondering if everyone was aware that the Colic formula has been changed since "the good old days"? a lactation consultant told me last week that after some research the pro's discovered it had a very high alcohol content. it was removed from the market and the formula altered. apparantly it is no longer as effective.....go figure! |

| I just wantes to remind you that all babies are different, not all babies will calm down after having Gripe Water. My youngest daughter who is now 7m had colic pretty bad and i tryed not to stress out because it would stress her and i also rubbed her belly, it will help bring up any wind there. Listen to your heart only you know what your bub wants. |

| I have 2 words. Gripe Water. Not only does it help relieve the pain, but it produces some killer belches that can be laughed over, it sounds gross, but helps lighten the mood heaps. |

My daughter is 3 months old & has had terrible problems with relux & colic (a family failing, unfortunately!)
As a Naturopath, I am very wary about what I give her. No real luck with herbal teas or gripe water for us, but I did find what I call "magic in a bottle" - Marina Infant Mixture by Morzone Pharmaceuticals. John Morzone, a Naturopath & Homoeopath, created it 40 years ago for his daughter, Marina. The baby on the front of the bottle is Marina's daughter, who is now 19. Ray Martin's daughter used it with great results on her kids when he put out a national call 14 years ago for a product that actually worked. Check your local pharmacy or order online from www.morzone.com.au.
Thankfully my angel is much better now than she used to be, but when she has the occasional bad night, a dose of Marina allows her to go to sleep almost instantly.
Another thing I think they should hand out to ALL mothers at the hospital is the "Sounds For Silence" CD by Dr Harry Zehnwirth. Similar to the vacuum noise theory & an absolute Godsend.
Finally, I could not have got this far without my Hug-A-Bub carrier. A bit fiddlier to put on than other slings, but far more comfortable than others I've tried & it doesn't aggravate my dodgy back. Check out www.hug-a-bub.com.au for info, stockists or order online.
As you posted your message 8 months ago, chances are your baby has now outgrown the colic, but I hope this info helps others. It certainly is heart-breaking when they're in so much pain.
Best of luck to you all,
Ny :o) |
