| My sister is type 1 diabetic and has been since she was 10 she has had 4 beautiful kids and they are all healthy. The last was very premmy but he is going really well now. If you feel healthy and are a responsible diabetic go for it!!! |

Hi gemmie_danish
One of my best friends is a type 1 diabetic.
She is in her early 20's and just had her second bubs. She is doing great, as are both her bubs. Your body is at its strongest during pregnancy, don't ever under estimate yourself!! you never know what you are capable of until you try. I would suggest speaking to your GP or going to a womens clinic prior to conception just to give you the gist of pregnancy with diabetes and clear up any bad thoughts you may have. They will also be able to point you to some good support networks in your area :)
in the mean time. i would suggest reading this article.

| I have been a type 1 diabetic for 20 years and have just given birth to my second healthy son. I can sympathise with your concerns and I know there is a lot of evidence/info out there about the risks to the baby and mum if your diabetes is not well contolled before conception and during pregnancy which is scary to read. Personally, my control was very good before and during my first pregnancy as it was meticulously planned (I had some fertility problems). My second pregnancy was a surprise (!!) and my control was no where near as good at conception. I found that there is no better motivation to maintain good control than being pregnant and I also found that pregnancy and probably all the weird hormone changes seem to help to keep BSL's fairly low. My best advice would be to see your specialists (Endocrinologist/ Obstetrician) early and keep in close contact with them. Good Luck!! |

You should check out this web site www.lifeclinic.com/focus/ diabetes/pregnancy
Heaps of info on how to prepare your body for pregnancy and what to watch out for when pregnant
Also as topaz_butterfly1983 says your diabetic educator would be the best person to talk to, |

I also have diabetes, type 1 to be exact, i'm 23 yrs old but i don't have any kids, i do want them one day but not really for them now as i'm not really to deal with not only the responsibility of being pregnant but also the hassle of having to control my diabetes so strictly.
But if you really want kids, you should talk to your local diabetes educator and dietian about all this. |
