These days it is absolutly amazing what they can do with babies. All 3 of my children were premature babies from 5 weeks early to 12 weeks early and while it can be a very hectic and life changing experience it is one for the better. You grow and learn and really appreciate your children. There have been so many advances is medcal science that premmies have almost the same survival rate as full terms.
By the way I am not married either and that is a choice I made!! |

| Hi Jay, My twins were born at 29 weeks prem and were in hospital for 9 weeks. We were very lucky that our littlest one only has a few problems he was born 720 grms and big one 1280 grms (no problems). I take it that your baby is in the neonate ward at a childrens hospital which is the absolute best place- I found that the nurses were wonderful and not only gave our boys the best care but also me and my husband when there were rough days. Take every day as it comes, give your baby all your love and do take some time out for yourself, talk to the nurses as they know best what is happening. I wish you and your baby all the best |

| I had 2 premmies one 7 weeks one 6 weeks early the 7 week prem was taken away pretty much straight away and i didnt get to hold him for a week. Watching him lay there hooked up to all the machines with tubes going in and out of everywhere was really sad and not taking him home with me was the hardest. He pulled through as they usually do now he is 2 1/2 years old he is beautiful and is infact very advanced for his age. You could never tell he was a premmie. My daughter is 6 months she was also premmie, i went into labour at 30weeks but they stopped the labour and gave me a quarterzone shot so that if she came early her lungs were strong enough to cope, she had no respiratory problems and was home in 10 days. The doctors will probably do the same with your grandchild so dont worry she or he will pull through and will cath up in no time |

Did she have the baby? Did it go all right?
I have two boys age 6 and 2 and they were both prem babies one was 5 weeks and the other was 6 weeks early, They both didnt have any major problems they were in special care for two weeks but that was mainly to get up the strength to suck as the sucking refexes stop, but know they are fine not behind in any way and considering they were 6pd and 5 pd not overly small, hope all new is good. |

| They have probably put her in hospital to keep a close eye on her, and if the appendix look like they are about to burst they will have to do a c-section as well as remove the appendix, and it is better to be in a hospital where the baby will get the best care needed. Although, 8 Weeks in not really too premature, it will still need special care, but these days with all the technology etc it shouldnt be too much of an issue for the baby. |

| It is not always necessary to induce the pregnancy. Often the appendicitis can be controlled with IV antibiotics, it would be as a last resort to induce the baby, especially if she still has two months to go. |

| My son and his girlfriend are having their third child. He rang me today and says that she has appendicitis. Went to hospital , has to be transferred to Royal Childrens Hospital because she will also be two months premature. Does anyone know what this means, they must bring the baby on because of her appendicitis, or what happens. I just wait as I am in Qld and they are in Vic. |
