There is no secret. Hundreds of books have been written on the subject. It's just that so many people want the QUICK answer- the no work -no personal effort answer. How many over-weight sports people have you seen, and they eat like"horses" Its what they eat, their attitude self-image, and making sure they BURN,not store the food/energy intake from what they choose to eat.
And no I'm not an "EXPERT" I just choose to LISTEN AND LEARN from people who are, instead of being cynical of suggestions designed to help.
I'm talking about life-style change, a totally different mental approach to what one does to their body in order to get the results that you want. |

Just a quick message....
I am currently on optifast preparing for Weight loss surgery and you will be pleased to know that optifast now has tomato soup, creamy chicken soup, strawberry milkshakes, mueslibars and chocolate bars. The chocolate bars are delicious and i take them to work for breakfast. They fill me up, plus i love being able to chew something.
My doctor told me i can have a cowl of steamed vegies at night and a piece of fruit. This may help you a bit. |

| Ooooh goodie - another expert with a secret. Why not write a book about your secret and sell it. Last thing we need is a know it all with an attitude. Different things work for different people actually Einstein and sometimes surgery is the answer. Do what works for you :) |

| People the real secret to weight management is not cutting and slicing your body or even drastic eating/non-eating programs. your body is totally ok the way it is. It works just fine. The real problem lies between your ears. You must re-program your thinking, your attitudes and choices.your body will only reflect YOUR choices of WHAT and HOW MUCH you put in your mouth. If you work with a dietory nutritionist on what types of foods suit your body and blood type you WILL find that your body weight will stablise. But it is essential that you work on your thought processes. How you view yourself, your self image etc will ultimately control your physical appearance in a natural way without all of the other stuff. There is a product called "Carb-Blocker" which can help while you are getting started. |

| hi dont give up on it you need to drink at least 2 litres of other fluid ,low cal soft drink or just water once you get over the first 3 days your on your way,ive used it twice before now and im going back on it tomorrow,it usually takes 3 days to a week before you notice any weight loss, but you also need to do some exercise, like walking or Tae Bo which is what i do,and yes you dont eat food if you do then you may as well not have the optifast.Good Luck with the weight loss.Pen |

I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who had big probs with Optifast. I have tried it many times. some sucessful some not . Yes it used to be called modifast. and we had no probs getting the soups then, but can only get the shake now. after many years of yo yoing I've had enough.
I am going in for my gastric bypass Surgery in 2 weeks. It's been a long wait on the public waiting list.
But no out of pocket expenses, and has a higher sucess rate than lap banding. It is permenate and i should lose all my excess body weight in 18 months. I still have to do the hard work but the effort will be worth it just to know I wont put it back on again if anyone is considering and want to talk just email me. |

Yes, a number of years ago it was called Modifast and was prescribed by my doctor. I was really at the time only about 8 kgs o/w. I did it for 13 days with no other food intake except the shakes. I trained for 1 & 1/2 hours per 3 days a week which was a fairly solid regime. By day 13 I was finishing the training session absolutely delirious and sick, cold, shaking and had cramps so bad in my legs that I could hardly walk. I did lose on average 1 kg per day. I really felt awful and I vomited violently teeth burning stomach acids and bile that felt on my throat like sulfuric acid.
I was actually 4 kilo's lighter than I'd been since a 14 year old.
It was extremely difficult period those 13 days and would not recommend anyone try these radical attempts to loose weight.
It recent times I've been heavier again and in the last 4 months have lost 6.5 kilo with one simple rule. NO CARBS AFTER 5PM. You'd be surprised how easy it is. Try it. |

| I have been on Optifast for 12 days now. I lost 8 pounds the first week and have only lost 2 pounds this week. I am very discouraged and disappointed. Has this happened to anyone else. If so, do you start to lose as you are supposed to or are there just bodies resistant to Optifast as a weight loss aid? It is very hard to limit yourself to lquid, I can't begin to describe how torturous at times, but it would be worthwhile if I actually lost weight. I am getting very dpressed with no weight loss this week. Can anyone give me some advice on this? |

I am currently on Optifast, and am having success with it. There is a lean/green option where you can have 2 shakes a day and a 2 cups green vegetables for dinner. This helps curb the hunger a bit. The program does not assure you lose a kilo a day at all... It is aimed for people who need to lose over 20kg, and this is the average weight loss achieved over 12 weeks (the length of the intensive phase).
It does take at least a week or more for you body to adjust to the reduction in food, so those willing to stick to it will see the results they are looking for.
It is important to team the program with some exercise, even if it is only a light 30 min walk a day.
Some people may experience weight gain when they go off the program, but if you follow the transition and maintenance phases, you will generally continue your success. You cannot go back to eating how you were before the program. |

| I tried it a few times but never more than a few days at the time. I just get too hungry. I am one of those people where a shake just doesnt cut it as a meal. I need something I can get my teeth into. It is kind of expensive and good luck if you can stick to it. I just felt totally deprived, kind of like I was fasting. |

| losing a kilo a day is very unhealthy. you should not lose anymore than 1/2 to 1 kilo a week. Anymore and you'll just put it all back on. Please people be smart and stop going for these quick fixes. No wonder we are having obesity problems, no one is using their brains. |

i have done optifast for about 12 weeks. I don't know how much weight I lost but it was a lot. It was sheer torchure.
I couldn't sleep because I was so hungry, and was totally allergic to it . it went in one end out the other, so it was totally exhausting, running to the toilet. It's just like anything else though if you don't keep at it you will put the weight back on. I am in the process of having a gastric bypass now that way it will be permanate and has a higher sucess rate than the lap banding good luck. |

| Has anyone ever had any success with Optifast? I started it on Sunday, but have found it difficult as it only allows you to have the shakes. No food whatsoever. I still feel hungry all of the time, and don't really feel that I've lost any weight. It assures you tha you lose a kilo a day!!! Not in my case. Do I stick with it? |
