| I too had this problem. I hate HATE HATE mine. I lost only 10 lbs and went through a year of vomiting 20 times a day. My teeth are now bad, my hair all feel out and the doctor kept telling me I had to chew more. I had a prolapse and a hernia and had a repair. That was three years ago and I still throw up at least 5 times a day, even if I drink a glass of water too quickly. Problem now is that I live in America and it will cost a fortune to get this horrible thing out of my stomach. |

Faith,
there are too many pros and cons to put in on message. Yahoo was even so overwhelmed by all there is about lap bands they gave them their own message board here: http://au.messages.yahoo.com/health/lap-band/
I suppose the worst that can happen is that the band can erode through the stomach, although that is very very rare. On the board I've mentioned above you will find just how hard it can be to live with a band.

Sharon,
Get back to your surgeon ASAP. Pbing black isn't a good sign. It may just be you have a slight over fill or even something partially blocking the stoma, or it could be something more sinister.
Please make an appointment with your surgeon as quickly as possible.
You can also find a heap of people with bands, for support or to ask questions of here: http://au.messages.yahoo.com/health/lap-band/
Just post something in the general chat thread.

| Can you please tell me more about your prolapse. I think I may be going throught the same thing. All of a sudden I am unable to keep food down and the relux at night has actually gotten to the point where it scares me. I have awakened due to chocking from reflux. My stomach also feels like it is on fire most of the time and I had a very unusual productive burp the other day - very black - when I had not eaten anything that would cause that coloration - sorry for the graphic details - anything you can add would be greatly appreciated. |

| i hadf my lap band surgery back in 2004 and lost 60 lbs. but then nothing - i had constant problems with vomiting and no tolerance to any foods. i thought that the vomiting was normal but now find it was not. i had a prolapse and needed additional surgery which i just went through to repair it. the band had slipped up over the stomach wall causing extreme reflux problems, i slept sitting up for a month until the surgery. |

Hey there,
Get a barrium swallow, it will show you how much your stomach is holding.
But remember, 3 rules, dont worry, dont panic and dont think about it until you get all the facts. It is not as bad as you can think it will be, truly. |

My girlfriend had it done after 30kg's loss last year.
They just pushed it up and stitched it and she never even noticed they had been there, not like the initial op. |

Hi there,
Alcohol, smoking and anything oily is dreadful for reflux.
You really need to eat slower and chew more, dont wash down with liquid.
Nexium or losec are great and work on the problem in the gut not just the throat, ask your doctor. Get a 2nd opinion.
Also, you may be intollerant to the foods you are eating all of a sudden like the creamy, milky or sugar replacement additives like saccarin or sugarine and then there is also the fact that you can turn lactose intollerant overnight. A blood test will sort that out. |

| In response to lap band problems, I had my lap band op done in Oct last year and have lost over 7 stone. I have had no problems at all up until about a month ago when I caught a stomach bug and was sick about 5 times. I then started to get acid indigestion and really vile smelling burps (sorry to be blunt) I phoned my dietician and was told not to worry, however it has now transpired that my band has in fact slipped and I have to have it re-positioned next Thursday. Can anyone let me know if this repositioning surgery will be as painful as the initial one as I am not really get a lot of answers from my surgeon. thanks. |

| My band slipped (prolapsed) - it was stitched in place .. there are a number of reasons why it can slip .. excessive quick weight loss, excessive vomiting, etc. I've had the procedure twice - weight loss is slow the second time round - but at least I haven't had to attend the Emergency Dept because of dehydration and chronic heart burn again and again! Good luck guys .. happy to correspond with anyone who wants to talk about their experiences :) |

Sorry to take so long to get back to you.
Reflux can be a problem after banding. I was taking rani and zantac for quite a while.
Try not to eat late at night before bed as this can be the worst time.
There are heaps of bandsters at:

Cheers

I am looking to talk to anyone who has had after surgery problems with thier Lap Band. I had surgery on September 14 and have been suffering with what I think is Acid Reflux since. It started two days after surgery and is unbearable. It seems to get worse when i talk a lot and move a lot. Other than this everything is fine. I am taking Pepcid AC 20mg, Tums like crazy and today started on an Acid pump Blocker per nurses instructions.
Anyone with similar problems???? |
