Lap Band Payment

Most of these obesity clinics have payment plans I know my doctor's was $1,000 up front and $135 per week for 12 months. Another way to pay for your band is via your Superannuation, I am not sure how as I did not go that way but I believe it can be done. Then there is the public system but I think you will find the wait huge as people are lining up to do this.

Re:Gastric Bypass opp Reply to this message
Can someone help me re gastric bypass please? I am having trouble finding a surgeon in Melbourne who will do this op, they all seem to prefer lap band. Also, can it be done on the public scheme? If so, any ideas on waiting times? Is recovery times similar to lap band?

Re:Gastric Bypass opp Reply to this message
Unfortunately until a band or bypass is developed for our brains there will be many unfortunate people putting their lost weight and more back on as a result of head hunger (head hunger is mental hunger not physical hunger).

The message boards are full of the struggles of people who have had various types of weight loss surgery and have reached goal only to sadly regain their lost weight and more as a result of their battle with head hunger. I have a daily battle with my head hunger even though I haven't experienced physical hunger since I was banded eighteen months ago and I don't know anyone who has had weight loss surgery who doesn't battle with head hunger. If you haven't experienced head hunger yet it's bound to happen, in fact I would think it would be highly unlikely that you haven't had head hunger battles.

I wouldn't dare say my weight wouldn't go back in case I became complacent because I know it will only stay off if I continue to make wise food choices and exercise which is a life long commitment and I don't know what's around the corner that might cause me a setback e.g. illness or injury which could stop me from exercising hence the weight goes upwards.

Nobody ever wants to go back to their old lifestyle but unfortunately if a person realises the scales are constantly going upwards and doesn't seek the attention of a psychologist or psychiatrist specialising in obesity eating disorders or the very least a dietitian or their surgeon then the writing is on the wall.

Re:Gastric Bypass opp Reply to this message
Thanks twinkleheart that was interesting, but I believe if you go thru all the hard work and pain of the bypass, why would you even wanna go back to your old lifestyle? you are right its how bad you want to, that makes it work. Yes it"s not an easy option only a choice between life and death. I wanna be alive to see my son grow into a man. I know it's gonna work. Im sorry but that person is an idiot as far as I am concerned if banding works I'd say go for it.

Re:Gastric Bypass opp Reply to this message
Hi Fab

Please don't be fooled into thinking there is no way to fail with Gastric Bypass. I am banded and attend a monthly support group held by a doctor who does both banding and gastric bypass. There are two ladies that I know of in this group that have had gastric-bypass and got to their goal weight and have put it all back on and more.

As with any form of weight loss method there are always ways around it if you want to cheat yourself.

I went out for dinner one night with a co-ordinator of this support group who had gastric bypass surgery and she was trying to talk me into having my band removed and have gastric bypass. In a one hour period she ate a steak, chips, vegies, a small lemon merangue pie and a cheese platter. After witnessing that feast, give me banding anyday. This lady had got down to 65 kilos and she is heading up to eighty now.

Re:Gastric Bypass opp Reply to this message
First of all you have to find a surgeon who is willing to take a chance and do it,as it is very risky. Do your homework ask lots of questions. There are only 3 in Victoria who would do it. Look into all your other options first and only have it as a last resort. Im not sorry at all and I am still losing it a bit slower than Id like but still Ill never get any fatter and it wont fail as wirth Lap band there are ways around it and it can fail. Hope this helps feel free to ask more questions if you have any.
