Kris,
From my experience, and I only have experience with Optifast, VLCDs will work extremely well while you stick with them, the trick is learning to change your eating habits , or committing to not returning to old eating habits while you are on the VLCDs.
They are fantastic for breaking bad eating cycles and getting the weight off, but really don't help with learning how to eat right for you.
I have found that carbs were my downfall, more than fats, so I have avoided them. I intend to keep my carb intake at a minimum once I am again eating on a regular basis.
I am really not the best person to ask about maintaining weight after VLCDs, as I have just undergone weight loss surgery.
Maintaining weight loss was something I struggled with but I do know a few people who have had success by monitoring their food intake and exercise levels at calorie king (http://www.calorieking.c om.au/)
I wish you well with your weight loss endeavours.

| Thanks Pyretta. From your experience is there anything particular that I should be looking for in the nutritional information in order to loose weight and keep it off. I have tried alot of diets in the past and just seem to put all the weight on again after. |

Kris,
VLCDs are Very Low Calorie Diets, some replace all 3 meals in a day, others only replace 2 and you have a small meal.
All of them can be referred to as either, it is up to you which one you choose to do, most of them have their positive and negative aspects.
I suggest you do your research, check the nutritional information on the packs and make your decision based on facts, not publicity, and what you think would be suitable for you.

| I am seeing products in pharmacies that state they are a VLCD and others that are meal replacements. I am wanting to loose about 23kg. Can anyone explain the difference to me and which one might be better. Thanks Kris. |
