Hi Lala,
I know it isnt far away at all - only 1 and a half weeks to go, cant wait !!!!
The Opti diet that my dietician has put me on, in consultation with my surgeon is:
Shake for Brekkie
Peice of low carb fruit for M\T
Opti Bar and a salad for lunch
Peice of fruit for A\T
Shake for dinner and low carb veges if i want them
No milk allowed, but i can have some sugar free mints (as you get very bad breath and a shag pile tongue)and diet jelly if i want. It is hard to stick to but it is only for a limited time so i can put up with it.
I also started the Opti ealry so that if i cracked and cheated (which i did in the first week, just needed a steak), i wouldnt break the diet in the critical 2 week pre-surgery phase. I so take centrum every day and benefibre.
I bet you are hanging out for the 16th December !!! |

| Hi I had a Sleeve Gastrectomy on 050608 , I am 50,and was 116kg and I am now 87kgs. I am now in size 14 clothes. I am 5 ft 8 in the old language. One of the great benefits is that I no longer snore. My snoring was so bad my husband slept in another room. I had my thyroid removed completely 6 years ago and that was when I stacked on the weight. I would recommend this to anyone. I have not had any problems at all.regards deirdre |

Hi All,
Well I have my sleeve operation booked in for the 12th November. It is starting to feel very real now (since I parted with the cash that is). I am really excited but also very nervous at the same time.
I started Opti a bit early, i have been on it for 2 and a bit weeks and have lost 6.8kgs. Hope to lose a couple ,ore before the op.
I opted for the sleeve over the band as i have alot to lose, and have a real problem with my hunger. I also was a bit worried about having a foreign object in my body.
Will keep posting .... and counting down to the big day !!! |

Hi all - not sure if i have posted this in the right spot -quite new at this so please correct me if needed. I have posted in a few different areas and have kindly been led to here.
I would like to hear anyones thoughts on Lap-band versus Sleeve Gastrectomy option. I currently have a preference for the Sleeve.
I have my initial consult in a fortnights time - so a long way to go yet and just information gathering and becoming familiar with it all at this stage. Hopefuly i get to know you all a little better as time goes on & thankfully there is this forum for such obviously wonderful people to gather and support each other.
Also, I am from Charters Towers Qld (about an 1 1/2 hrs inland from Townsville) and it would be great if anyone here is from Townsville or elsewhere close by and is happy to say hello. I have also posted on the Townsville thread.
Cheers and kind regards ... |

Hi everyone
I started my search to get a surgery as i have been over weight for all my life and stopped dieting a while ago. I read most of your posts and I believe that you can assist me taking the decision.I am 43, have 2 girls and Iam now 100 kg, and 165cm tall. I need to lose maximum of 35 kg. I have always put everyone's interest before me. I am too lazy to exercise, I can not spend money on trainers and weight loss programs. After I went over 40 years I started to get depressed because of my age and weight. At last I spoke to my hubby about the surgery and he encouraged me. now Iam scared of getting complecations and fricked about getting saggy or lose skin as I won't afford to have plastic surgeries. I read that it depends on the age and weight lost, but it is not specific which age or weight loss it starts to happen and need surgery. Iam also scard to regret having the surgery later for any reason. did any one experience this confusion and what did u come up to
Cheers

Hi Roxanne
I had my sleeve done on 3/10 and have not looked back - 7kg loss since surgery. I look forward to moving on to firmer food this weekend but given the stresses of dieting I have undergone over the past ??years this is a walk in the park!! I can only stress that when you have it done, follow the diet instructions to the letter - Its not a great feeling when you eat or drink too fast - very uncomfortable. My time in hospital was fine - first day post op was a little uncomfortable - pain in the shoulders from the gas they pump into you. The quicker you can get out of bed and start moving around the better - relieves the gas pain a lot faster. Other than that very little pain at all - I would honestly only say it was more discomfort than anything. I returned to work this week on Monday so I had 10 days post op recovery and have resumed most of my normal routines - just not doing any lifting. If you would like any further information please don't hesitate to contact me on kayelledee2008@yahoo.com. au
Cheers & good luck

Hi Gail
I have just read your post and wanted to let you know that I had a sleeve gastrectomy done on 3/10. I was only in hospital for 3 days over the long weekend and returned to work on 13/10. I have found no negatives with the sleeve and have already lost 7kg since the surgery. My surgeron has been great and operates a complete weight loss facility at Liverpool. I have no regrets that I chose the sleeve as I feel that I will never want to reverse the procedure anyway - spent too many years fighting the weight battle to want to go back. Now I feel I have taken charge!! I'd be happy to speak with you if you need any further information. Contact me on kayelledee2008@yahoo.com. au

| I chose the lap sleeve gastrectomy because of the lack of need to follow up post op and because of the wider range of foods that can be tollerated as opposed to lap banding |

If anyone is still deciding on having the sleeve gastrectomy, it will be the best thing you will ever do for yourself and your health.
I had the sleeve done on the 12th May this year in Rockhampton Qld, and have not looked back since, have lost over 40kgs and still going strong, I am now going to start walking before this I havent done any daily exercise.
If anyone wants any support or information I am only too happy to help. All the very best to everyone who is thinking of having it done soon. |

Help. I have a close relative that is 20 and is going to have sleeve gastroplasty. He would not weigh anymore than 85kgs. He has gone to a GP for the first time whom has referred him to a doctor who has convinced him that he needs the operation due to his age, and BMI. He fits the “criteria” however; he has never had a balanced diet or worked out on a regular basis. I could understand if he was 100kg plus, 30 yrs and had been battling this for a long period of time but this is not the case. I believe that no one knows the long term effects of this procedure because this operation has only been conducted for the last few years?
Can someone please be honest – at least lap band is reversible than removing most of your stomach for the rest of your life? Do we all agree that food is one of the most enjoyable things in life? |

Hi,
My Name is Pedro. I live in Lisbon Portugal and I had my Sleeve done on 04SEP08, and was discharged on the 8th. It was done Laparoscopicly (sp??) and I am now 1 week post op, had my firts post op visit with the doc today and am doing fine. I will be back at work on Monday. My initial intent was to have the DS (Duodenal Switch) but due to a hiatal hernia, and bad breathing during anestesia, the cut the op short and so only did th first "part" of the DS, which should I want the rest can be done in six months, but I wat to avoid that now. I have lost 15lbs since the op, in one week that is great. No nausea, some disconfort after eating. I have been taking walks, without straining, about 30 min a day, and that has helped the loss as well, as well as promoting bowel movements and general well being. I've even been okayed to travel long haul on a plane in 10 days time. I was Operated at Hospital da Luz, by Dr. Paulo Roquete. A great guy, who only ever operates laparoscopicly. |

Hi everyone,
My name is Gail and am currently doing research into the sleeve. Until last Friday I was banded but had a major slip occur and following a endoscopy, the band was removed by emergency surgery that evening. I was banded in Oct 07 however the weightloss has been slow as I'd only lost 10kgs in that time.
My surgeon is recommending having the sleeve done instead as apparently I heal too well. Actually I didn't form any adhesions to help hold the band in place and if re-banded it would probably slip again.
I've just spend the past 2 hrs reading all the posts and its giving me some idea as to what to expect if I do decide on more surgery.
I'm in Sydney (Sutherland), are there any other people in this area around who would be happy to talk to me?
Cheers
Gail |
