| My daughter's pain is similar to gallbladder pain. She described that it feels similar to her gallbladder attacks before she had it removed. |

| My daughter went in to the hospital last night with symptoms that have been recurring over the past year. She had lap band 3 years ago, and like you had early success. This year she has been hospitalized with stomach flu-like symptoms, and a high white blood count (28,000) that the docs are unable to explain. They say it is clear her body is fighting off something foreign and are asking her if it could possibly be related to the lap band. We had not considered the connection until they brought it up today. She is getting sicker and sicker. I guess it's time to go back to the lab band doc. |

| Hello it does not matter how strict you are with your diet, you are one of the luckey ones that does not have a band wrapped around your esophagus and have to deal with vomit coming out your nose in the middle of the night everytime your body falls asleep! |

| I was just banded last week. I live in the United States and am very happy with my surgeon thus far. However, I come across these boards and itreally scares me. I am so hungry, and i don't know if this is normal. My port site hurts, and feels like it may be slightly infected. I have no tempurature. But the area feels raw, and I assume it is infection. My cut sites seem to be healing well. I have gone(for the most part) by what the doc has said these last few days. (I do think I am eating too much, not solids yet, but too much liquidy type foods) I always feel full, but mentally I am so hungry. I have read that this will end once I get a fill. I have eaten only sugar free liquidy foods (pudding, protein shakes, smoothies, jello, baby food) that is what my diet has consisted of this week. I also have some soup, but with mushy mushy overcooked potatoes.I am really confused, because the lap band website says positively only liquids the first week and then mushies, well my diet guidlines say water the first day, protein shakes the second, and then pudding, jello, babyfood,etc...3rd day and on. SO if my diet is wrong could this be why I am so gassy, and kinda in some pain? I guess what I am thinking is that I am a glutiness pig as well, like the woman complains of that I am replying to. I am proud of the woman saying it is her fault that she has eaten too much. I think some of these other woman probably aren't being realistic about how much they can eat. I think if they will stay positive instead of in that dispair I hear in their writings, they would be ok. Go to a therepist and gain some self esteem, then things may begin working in your favor. just an idea. But like I said I am only4 days out. |

Hi Pyretta,
I don't have the time or the finances to get it taken out at the moment and I would NEVER go back to the original surgeon.
The night thing is terrifying as you wake up with vomit in your mouth or a gush of fluid just spurts from your nose - and I am always scared I am going to choke to death in my sleep!!! The you can't go back to sleep as you keep coughing up the fluid in your lungs and having vomit again. I just wish I had of tried harder at the gym and on a diet - this thing has ruined my life. |

| I am 4 years post op and only 21... I had the band put in when I was 16. I also have the same problems with the pain after I eat. I can eat just fine... everything goes right through the band, mine has been completely loosened for 2 years now. I have had CT Scan, X-Ray, 2 Berrium Tests, HIDA Scan, and an Upper Endoscopy. They have checked it all, and found nothing. My doc did tell me he thinks the band has slipped up to the place where my esoph. and stomach combine, so I am waiting to see what is next. I have found that Nexium (Which Im taking now) helps a bit, and eating very very small meals throughout the day helps. But sometimes the pain is there either way. I am in the process of getting mine removed... I have lost 50lbs with the band, but think over the time I have had it, it just isnt right for me anymore. The surgeon who did my surgery REFUSES to take it out... so I have 2nd and 3rd opinions coming his way. My best advice is if you think its the band, it probably IS. |

| Had surgey 12/10/09. Had 2nd adjustment a week ago. I have not been able to eat anything, even soup. I had acid reflux, it stopped after the surgery, but now its back. I have been taking protonix for it in the past and still do now. Tired of this all |

Kims,
What you are describing is called night reflux and it is a sign that either your band is too tight and needs some saline removed, you have a hernia, pressing on the stomach or esophagus, or your band has again slipped.
It is very important you try and get treatment for whatever is causing it as the reflux can cause significant problems with your esophagus.
Is there any chance you could come back to Australia for a few weeks, talk with your surgeon and have the band removed here?
I hope you can find a solution soon.

I have also had back pain (around kidney area but higher which is now in my shoulder - for the past three years. It just wont go away. I HATE THIS THING.
And to reply to the lady who asked if we are complaining because we don't stick to the rules - I stick to the rules, so do the other three ladies who had this done the same time as I did - we all have the same problem. It is so depressing not being able to go out to a restaurant as you know you will have to throw up and come back with red watery eyes......don't drink while you eat, chew chew chew - doesn't make any difference |

I had my first band done in Melbourne in 2002 - after a year of vomiting 10 times a day, my teeth rotting, hair falling out - (they kept telling me I wasn't chewing enough) I found my band had slipped of two days after surgery and I also had a herniated stomach. I WANTED IT OUT but they talked me into replacement. I still vomit even when I eat ice cream or drink coffee too fast. I can't eat any type of meat, watermelon, mangoes. bread most vegetables - can't eat anything healthy as I throw it straight back up. Had a vegetable stir fry last night and vomited 5 times through it. I CAN eat junk food like chips or chocolate though.
My life has been a misery, I am still about 40 pounds overweight, my kids have been through hell watching me sick all the time - and now at night I choke in my sleep, having to vomit all night and have huge fluid gushes out of my nose.
It is a nightmare - does anyone else have these problems. I am now in the USA and can't afford to have the bloody thing out!! |

Dear lizlevanschalkwyk,
If you read our stories you will note that we are not simply complaining about weight gain !!! We are discussing reflux, band dropping, small pouch enlarging, too much fluid, not enough fluid etc etc....
You will learn in June you simply cannot eat at times! You will learn you will not be able to eat much at all. Not sure what diet you speak of, as we have all struggled with weight loss and this has been our only salvation.
Not too rapt in now hearing condemnation from anybody about things that can and have gone wrong because we did not stick to a "diet". WE all have had a history of deprivation, riducle and misunderstanding prior to banding.
Good luck on your 50kg loss and when you have walked in our shoes, come back and share your 50c worth....
This will not be as easy as you may think. But, it may be the answer for you as it has been for many of us. |

| Meg, I hope you had your test and are getting things worked out. Please don't do what I did, wasted 3 years in pain with my band, I ended up having it out, after three Doctors, I finally found one who found the problem, the band actually was put originally too high and I had no pouch. I had my out, too stressed from it all, that was 2 years ago, I'm looking into other options at the moment. |

| I thought I was one ofthe lucky ones with no problems and weight loss of 22kgs in 12 months. Until . . . two weeks ago when i had a regular small fill and i haven't slept since!! I vomit / reflux as soon as I lie down and I am so sleep deprived it's rediculous. Dr thinks its a slippage and have a swallow test today but why now I wonder? It is so depressing to be so tired, taking days off work etc but having said all that, I'm still glad to be rid of 22 kgs (now 98kg) but a long way to go so I hope it isn't problems from here on in. Dr tells me so little, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't read this forum to get the real stories! |

Hi Helen
l had the same problems reflux vomiting shoulder pain and weight gain. l had the band removed last year in in Sept. Had the bypass done in Dec and couldn't be happier wish l had it done in the first place. l cant pretty much anything l want, just small amounts of it. l manage 3/4 of a sandwich and l am full. Find out the codes for the bypass and contact your health insurance yourself. Find out if your covered or what you need to change to be covered. There are also some doctors who do it on the public list.Who are you insured with.

Hi All,
I need some advice. I was banded 18 August 2008. All has been good until recently. I have lost 19kg, which I think is great but just in the last 2 weeks I am starting to really struggle with eating. I can manage porridge for breakfast but come lunch time or dinner food is continualy getting stuck and I feel like I am constantly throwing up after these meals. Because of this I want to go back onto liquid but I don't want to live like that forever, sometimes even mushies get stuck. My chest feels like it is constantly aching. I have 6ml in my band and I have seen my Dr since November. Should I be concerned?

finna,
If you are having reflux contact your surgeon and see if he primed the band, if he did you may need to get some of the fluid taken out.
