Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
Can't you just have the liquid removed and deflate your band? When my band gets too loose I can eat just like I did before the band surgery.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
I have had lots of success with my lap band surgery 2 1/2 years ago. Every once in a while (once each year)it seems I do something to stop the food from going down. I can go to the doctor have some liquid removed and then I'm fine. I haven't had a fill in 8 months and had one last week. this week it seems like there is swelling around the band as food is v-e-r-y- slow go to down. Also as soon as I realized I was having distress I immediately switched back to liquids. But it takes about an hour to get yogurt down. Any ideas what I have done to make the sight swell. The first day or two after the fill I was fine so I don't think it was swelling from the fill. any ideas? Thanking you in advance. w_whanna@yahoo.com

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
I had surgery 2 years ago and have had some minor problems (all self induced). Pain at the port sight has nothing to do with how much you do or do not eat. It sounds more like an infection or something like that. What does your doctor say? If you haven't seen him or her call immediately. The few problems I have experienced in the last 2 years were all because I did not check with my doctor immediately. Once I contacted him each and every problem was resolved almost immediately. Take care

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
The same thing happened to me regarding the spitting up (to put it lightly) of dark black vomit. I waited too long and when I finally decided I could take no more I called my doctor and he met me at the emergency room. He removed the liquid and the severe pain along with the dark brown mucus when immediately away. I waited a few weeks had a fill and was fine. Call your doctor Now!!!

Susan,

If your surgeon won't fix it then go to one who will.

You shouldn't be living with pain.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
I had my surgery in 04/07 and have lost about 30 pounds. Lately I have been having problems with some pain at the stomach area and port area. I too am afraid I am eating too much food and have stretched out my upper stomach. I am curious what kind of pain if any you are feeling. I am doing all that I can to stop burping up food that is going down too quick or big. I have had a problem with my weight most of my life. I used to throw up to loose weight and do not want to go back down that path. I am doing better but with the holidays, I am eating more food than I should. I have not lost any weight in over 3 months now. I do drink alcohol on a daily bases and know this is part of the problem. Please tell me how you are doing and feeling. Thanks for your time.

I had my lapband done in May.I was wearing a 26 but now can wear a stretch 16.My problem is the reflux. It started after a bad cold now I have to sleep sitting up.Reading here I think my band slipped so I am getting a Xray done tomorrow beforeI go see my dr.I can keep down very lil food or water no matter how I chew or drink slow. This worry me because my skin look wrinkled.I no longer have knee or back pain and off all meds but the reflux worry me.I now have to carry ziplock bags at all times.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
blyth,

The chocking when laying down is caused by reflux. It means you might have a little too much fill and can be dangerous if left. I don't know how much you had put in 3 weeks ago but if you get half of that amount out it should stop the night choking.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
I was wondering what you had discovered about your problems. I also have been waking up choking at night. it only happens when I lay down. I also just recently puked up very dark black vomit. I got a fill about 3 weeks ago and it has been that way since then. but i also have had a flu bug that just wont go away. I thought that maybe being sick had been causing the coughing but now I'am not so sure.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
I had posted this elsewhere but it bears repeating. My doc advised that if you are banded and have even a small hiatial (sp) hernia you will suffer greatly from acid.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
I urge anyone with excessive vomiting and acid to have themselves checked for a haiatal (sp) hernia. According to my doc if you have even a small one while being banded you will suffer greatly with acid.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
This is common, be patient and let the doc fill it up slowly. If you overfill you will have vomiting issues

Every thing has risks. I have lost over 50lbs since Feb (It is now OCT). I do not regret it at all. Just find reputable surgeon.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
Wow, I just went to my local doctor today and he's scared the you know what out of me! This past weekend I went back to Mexico to let the doctors that did my surgery see how I was doing, while I was there I decided to get a fill. While I was drinking that stuff for the xray the doctor told me I had streached the top of my band from eating to much food, yet he did the fill and made it pretty tight. Upon returning home I got a message reminding me of a check up here in the states with my local doctor, I did not realize I had an appointment with the local doctor here. When I went to the appointment I told him what I had done and what the doctor in Mexico had told me about streaching the upper stomach. Let me just say the doctor was not pleased and listed all the problems that the bulge above my band may be. I'm scared! I don't have the money to get the test done here in the states that the local doctor here wants to let me know if it is indeed a streach or a slip. The symtoms I'm having are what I'm reading here from all of you. I'm scared! I haven't told anyone of my family or friends what I've done and they are getting concerned at my getting sick from eating foods. I've lost over 40 lbs in 5 months and hardly eat. What do I do? Yikes!

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
Wow! I really feel your pain. I had the Lap Band surgery Oct. 2006. What a mistake that was. If I could do it over again, I would NOT have the surgery. I have not lost even 1 Lb. My doctor tells me that I must be doing something wrong. My insurance didn't cover the surgery, so I paid $18,000 to have it done. I could really use that money now. I follow a heart healthy diabetic diet in which everything is counted, with no luck loosing the weight. I was throwing up constantly and I was told that I was waiting too long to eat between meals and that gases were accumulating above the band, therefore, when I ate the food "sat" on top of the "gas" and that is why I threw up. Sounds like a story to me!?! I could eat afterwards, but what a fiasco. The area where my port is hurts. I have terrible gas and am starving all the time. So what happened? Where did I go wrong? I am afraid to have the fluid put back in again for fear that I will start throwing up again. I just got out of the hospital after a 3 day stay for throwing up and dehydration and tachycardia due to dehydration. I didn't sign up for this! I signed up for a healthier lifestyle. Illness has plagued me this last year and it all revolves around this surgery. I really do wonder what the long term effects are.

Re:problems after Lap Band Reply to this message
Problems ? Where do i start? First an outpatient proceedure became a three day stay in the hospital due to an alergic reaction to being put under.
Then - lost about 14 pounds. That was 3 years ago - Every morning the band is too tight to eat breakfast - live on slimfast.
by noon - i still can only have slim fast. For supper, it all depends on what time of the month it is... Sound strange but its the truth - Hormone REALLY affect this for me. there is about one week out of the month i can eat with no pain. the rest is very painful - I can not seem to burp. My husband pats my back like a baby. I get alot of air built up and it is very painful. I have to spit alot. The port hurts like hell. when i sit at work - it almost feels like someone punched me in the gut all day. It's sore. It hurts after sex. I can not have any pressure on that port at all. I do not believe the band slipped. it just does not let me eat healthy. I can not eat vegy's, or many meats. Not even one small bite. I am hungry all the time. I can not drink soda at all unless all the fiss has gone.. This is the absolute worse thing i ever did to myself. I want the dam thing out of me. I want my life back but am so affraid of another surgery. Who the hell is going to pay for this screw up? I don't have alot of money....Lost more wieght on Jenny Craig several years back This is the worst possible thing people can do right now...Who knows what the long term effects will be...The Dr's all jumped on this and are driving nicer cars than us.... I have an appt in Dec. I am going to try to get this thing out of me. I long to feel normal again.

jungle,

Have you had all of your fill removed and still suffering from throwing up?

Has your surgeon suggested a larger band would be beneficial?
