Great to hear back from you. I have had 4 operations since 13 and they have pretty much ruled out me having children because of the severity of it and having it from such a young age! But that is fantastic news about you having a baby boy with all the problems both can cause it really is wonderful to hear a success story of conception with both!
Metformin didnt work with me either but it worked with a friend of mine but my gynie did say to me that it often doesnt help if you suffer from both POCS and Endo.
My target is 3 / 3.5 stone to. I will let you know my first weeks weigh in and see how much i have lost.
Obviously you know from suffering from POCS that feeling of hunger never goes away what MG of Reductil are you taking and how long have you been taking it now?
My diet at the moment isnt much i have Granery and seed toast in the morning 1 and 1/2 slices lunch i have no appetite at all so i either try a smoothy of different fruits or a yogurt and dinner i normally am not having much but if i do i am sticking to Fish and Chicken as the doctor told me protien is important and fish or chicken isnt very fattening as long as it is cooked in the correct way and not with any sauce (as this carries alot of fat and calories) and i either have that with rice and vegetables or with a jacket potato not eating the skin.
Drink wise i drink alot of no added sugar fruit juices (diluted) and water, tea is good for you (as long as you dont have lots of sugar and skimmed or semi-skimmed milk) as the hot water is good for your digestive system.
Hope this will help you a little bit. Always here if you need to sound off about how difficult it is. And remember you only had a baby a year ago and weight comes with carrying a baby so dont be to hard on your self.
Keep up the good work xx |

Hi tigs5469
Thanks for your message, Ive suffered with pcos and endo for years, i had many operations in order to conceive and luckily after having my ovaries drilled I had a baby boy a year ago.
My gynie did give me metformin but it didn't do anything except give me the runs so he took me off it ! I feel my body is changing shape slightly from the exercise i'm doing but even on reductil I still feel hungry at times.
I'm following a healthy diet and exercising lots so I'll just keep going and hope the 3.5 stone comes off eventually.
Let me know how much you lose in your first week and what diet/food are you eating ?
Good luck ! |

| Hi lulutrim ,my ideas on protein probly come from having an eating disorder in the past and now its come full circle and sometimes I over eat ,I understand I have a bad relationship with food and cutting out whole food groups is still common for me,because protein has more calories than say fruit or veg I think its more fatting as its solid food and fruit is made up of a lot of water,I know u probly think im mad but I am trying to change. I have introduced fish and turkey into my food plan and eat some pulses . |

Just a quick comment (not directed at anyone in particular)
I have now lost 21kg after 7 months on reds and still love reading all your posts to see how you are all getting on BUT have been surprised at recent comments on this forum.
Do some people get their reds illegally? I find that some people are misinformed or are not getting the proper advice of a health care professional or in fact have an eating disorder to begin with.
I understood that reductil was only prescribed under doctors supervision and would think that diet would be discussed with him/her. What I have been reading about people NOT EATING or only eating a very limited/restrictive diet cannot be healthy in the long term.
Keep up the good work everyone! |

Hi tigerlilly,
just been reading your posts and I must say that maidagirl has given you LOTS OF VERY USEFUL INFORMATION. she is 100% correct in the comments she had made. After read your initial post about protiens, I too was puzzled at where on earth you would have come up with the ideas you did. protiens come from many sources - not only meat/animal products and make a HUGE difference. |

Hiya liney75,
I have started taking reductil today and I suffer for severe POCS and Endomitriosis and have been battling since the age of 13 (i am now 22) and you probably know POCS has the dreaded symtom of never feeling full even when you have eaten a huge meal! I crave the wrong foods and always feel hungry but today has been the first day i havent felt hungry or craved anything! I have tried every diet under the sun, i have exercised (going to the gym everyday), i have been on numerous weight loss herbal pills etc but nothing worked. Until my Dr prescribed Reductil.
Hang on in there and keep going i know how difficult it is and how hard it is to keep it off! I have a long way to go still but like me you will get there.
If you are with a gynaecologist maybe discuss with them Metformin this is a drug that is used for POCS sufferers in some cases this help with the weight as well as other syptoms. I am not a Dr and dont know your history so maybe it isnt for you but worth mentioning it and see what they say.
Hope its been of some help. |

oh tigerlily you make me laugh, you're very funny!
that's like saying a doctor could never get sick!
I had 2 babies and am losing the weight from my pregnancies. the reason i know about healthy eating is because i did put on too much weight during pregnancy and breastfeeding so I've learnt a lot about what the body needs so i know what to eat and how to keep the weight off long term. It's been very beneficial as i'm losing weight at a good rate and feeling very healthy without feeling that i'm on a diet.
I never meant to offend you, i was just giving you some information. if you don't want to take the facts and use them to help you lose weight then that's up to you.
can you please not going to correspond with me again. this forum isn't for venting against other members. as you say it's to support each other.
good luck with the fruit! at least it's summer in ireland and you've got all those lovely summer fruits. |

actually itgerlily i was trying to help you because protein is no more fattening than fruit which is a carbohydrate.
here are the calories per gram of each
Fat: 1 gram = 9 calories
Protein: 1 gram = 4 calories
Carbohydrates: 1 gram = 4 calories
Alcohol: 1 gram = 7 calories
so you can see that fruit is has as many calories as protein. but your body actually has to work harder at digesting protein so it atually ends up as LESS calories (or fattening) than fruit.
i was just trying to help you. i think there is a lot of mis-information and misunderstanding about nutrition so i have made it a goal of mine to be as educated as i can about the body, health and nutrition. i wasnt saying you were stupid or anything. i was more surprised at some of the incorrect things you were saying and I think that you'll find it much easier to lose weight if you know more about food and good nutrition that's all
cheers |

some more info on why protein is essential in your diet
Why do you need protein?
1.Your lean body mass is the metabolically active part of you. It consumes energy, repairs the daily wear and tear of vital body structures and it replaces fluid and body chemicals. It is dependent on protein.
2. If you go on a low-calorie, high carbohydrate, low protein diet, you can easily lose up to 50% of your muscle tissue. Each pound of active muscle mass that you lose reduces your metabolic rate -- which means that you can just have tea and toast twice a day and still gain weight. This is very similar to what is known as "sarcopenic obesity" -- a condition sometimes found in women who are thin; but because their lean body mass is low and percentage body fat is high, they are still in the obese range in their BMI index.
3. Your body has its own intelligence system as well. If you go on a low calorie, low protein diet, your body will think it is in starvation mode and it will respond by lowering your metabolic thermostat.
4. What you need to do is consume enough protein to keep your metabolism high. Protein is known to be fat-burning. Your body uses very few calories to burn carbohydrates, especially those that are high in glycemic index. These foods dissolve easily in your stomach, release insulin into your bloodstream which increases the body's tendency to store fat. Protein, on the other hand, is tougher to metabolize. Your body actually uses more calories to digest a hard boiled egg than a piece of toast. In the process of digestion, your body also burns fat, converts fat to lean muscle tissue. And the more body mass you have, the faster your metabolism will become and the more calories it will burn for day to day activities.
5. If you eat an adequate amount of protein, your body will not crave carbs or sugar. Why? Because it is well fed. Most cravings are the result of a body that is hungry for nutrients. |

hi Tigerlily = please turn your capitals off - i feel as though you are shouting at me. and please don't question my need for reductil. (it's really nothing for you to comment on, thanks)
it's exactly comments like "i dont like eating protein cause i think it's fattening" why i say you need to educate yourself on food and what to eat.
Your body can not survive without protein. Every cell in the human body contains protein. It is a major part of the skin, muscles, organs, and glands. Protein is also found in all body fluids, except bile and urine. You need protein in your diet to help your body repair cells and make new ones. so you dont just eat protein to build muscle. it is essential.
if you arent eating enough protein you will slow your metabolism down which means you have to eat even less food to even maintain your weight. so no wonder you are struggling to lose weight.
You can not survive on fruit alone - especially if your diet is fruit and alcohol. you are probably hungry all the time also without protein in your diet.
get educated on your diet tigerlily - either by reading books or googling. |

hi togerlilypink - my day may sounds a lot but my portion control is great and i generally dont have any of the snack ideas so my calorie intake is pretty spot on. i also run and do weights and ssoemtimes yoga. i also have 2 kids i'm pretty active with.
i also barely drink alcohol. that is a sure way to not lose weight.
It sounds as though you are not eating enough calories and definitely not enough protein. if you dont like meat eat lentils, tofu, beans etc. you need to eat at least 1200 calories a day (roughly) or your body will think it's a in famine (ie starving) and it will resist any weight loss efforts.
how much weight do you want to lose? |
