This is a message board for those of us who are supporting each other in a journey. You are a very ignorant, rude person. How dare you tell us it is just about food and exercise. Its not. When you reduce your food intake, your body adjusts and metabolises you at that same rate.
There are alot of ignorant perople in this world who think overweight people spend all of their time at McDonalds stuffing their faces with junk food. This is not true. Many of us have had medical problems which have altered our body's natural rhythms and caused weight to pile on with minimal input from us. There are many medical problems and medicines that cause this. This is a certified medical fact! Not an excuse.
What Reductil does is gives us hope. It increases our metabolism so we burn more, and it helps us to feel full and not want so much food - which for me means I am eating very little now. I have always been a fairly healthy eater (with a little vice or two) and I play sports and swim. Unfortunately for me, we had trouble getting pregnant and the process of medical intervention which enabled us to achieve our dream of having a family caused me to put on heaps of weight as it altered my hormones and body chemistry. Then being pregnant - with twins mind you - I put on more weight. And unlike celebrities who can pay people to watch their children 23 hours a day so they can exercise, real women have trouble losing their pregnancy weight due to breast feeding, lack of sleep and lack of time.
I urge everyone who uses this site for its true purpose, support and encouragement, to ignore this ignorant comment made by an ignorant, rude person who has obviously never had to endure the taunts of society who abhor overweight people for the simple reason of not being thin. |

| It is very easy to be glib and say 'eat less fat etc'. There is more to being overweight/obese than simply over-eating for many people. You are oversimplifying the situation. Reductil works by targetting neurotransmitters in the brain which regulate appetite. I myself suffer from insulin resistance so no matter how little I eat, or how much I exercise I lose weight extremely slowly, if at all. My doctor has prescribed Reductil to increase my metabolic rate and to decrease my appetite. I have been on it for only a day so far and I'm optimistic and hopeful that it will work. Congratulations and encouragement should be given to all on this board! Not ignorant remarks such as those posted by sandii71. |

Zoloft is an anti depressant / anxiety pill, not a sleeping pill.
you should all just eat less fat/kjs and exercise more. pills, potions and surgery DON'T work, only changing your eating and exercise habits will help you be healthier and fitter and more than likely lighter! |

Hi Everyone,
Update for me, I have been on the tablets for 10days now and I am down 6.3kg :-) - so happy, it has boosted my motivation, I workout everyday, but it helps so much to see the results. |

I started 10mg Reductil 4 days ago but haven't had any weight change yet. The first couple of days I hardly ate as I just felt so full, but then didn't really notice much difference and was eating almost the same amounts as before.
The biggest thing is that I don't sleep for long and my heart feels like it's racing, the good thing is that I do feel like I have more energy and I'm exercising just to try and get rid of some it. I have noticed that I seem to be a bit cranky though which is concerning as I can't seem to shake it ... not sure if it's just a really bad case of PMT or if it's Reductil. Would love to hear from anyone else who has experience this. |

| I have been on 10mg for 3.5 months and have lost 12 kg but I noticed that I lost the most in the 1st month. I am now only losing 2kg per month. I asked my doctor if I should increase to 15mg but he said stick to the 10mg and I should be happy with 2kg a month. I would rather take 15mg and speed up the loss (as its the same price anyway) and come off them a little sooner. ANY IDEAS??? |

Hi jobimumoftwo
Thank you for your reply. Made me feel sad to think you have been upset this week and headed for the chocolate.
Be strong, all the exercise is not worth it otherwise!! Calories in, calories out - thats what I always hear. If you have some chocolate, then know what you have eaten and within that same day burn it off! I know it is not the right answer but at least you wont then make yourself feel worse for eating chocolate in the first place. Accept the consequences of eating a piece of chocolate ie 2-3 hours extra time on a treadmill walking (or however many hours).
It is worth it in the end!

Hi Tam
I went to the doctor expecting to have lost quite a bit of weight thanks to the massive effort I had been making. I was shocked and quite upset that I was actually heavier than when I started. I had done EVERYTHING they told me to and had put more on. I have lost 2.5kgs since starting on the 15mg tablets. This week I probably haven't because I have been quite upset so have eaten lots of chocolate. Not good. Keep going with the 10mgs and see how you go. You will get there and you are probably very healthy on the inside right now. :)

HELP!!!
I have been on 10mg for 3 weeks now and have not lost any weight. The doc put me on the tablets to increase my metabolism as for the last 5 months i have been doing tons of exercise and eating so healthy and the weight just wouldnt come off. My personal trainer sent me to the doc's as he said there has to be something medically wrong.
Anyway - doc said if i didnt lose weight after one month go back and she will perscribe 15mg. Will that make a difference.
It just feels so hard that no matter how much I bust myself exercising and eating healthy the weight just isnt moving - have about 15 kgs to go (currently 80kg).
HELP- i say again - has anyone has this problem where the weight didnt go straight away?!?!?
Feeling sad....

| Good on you Ada! You have the right idea. Eating sensibly like this five times a day is the best way to eat. Eating protein will satisfy you for longer and keep any cravings a bay.You will see results in no time. Keep up the good work!! |

Ada,
If you want to try a 'diet' don't do something you can't stick to... I love 'THE FOOD DOCTOR EVERYDAY DIET' - it is a show on foxtel, (well used to be) and they lose heaps of weight, I have followed this plan on and off (when I am not being naughty) and it is fantastic! check out http://www.thefooddoctor.com/. |

Hi Suzy,
You MUST eat breakfast, even if you want to skip every other meal, you MUST eat breakfast, it kick starts your body.
Even if it is just some skim milk, bannana and yoghurt (or berries) into a smothie,
I have lost 3kg this week. I sometimes only have some soup for dinner, and rice cakes for lunch, but I always eat a full breakfast. |

Hi
I started reductil a week ago and I have gained weight. I've put on a kilo. It justs makes me even more depressed. Maybe I am not being strict enough. I dont have breakfast, have a little bit of lunch and a little bit of dinner. Being so hot here in WA, I am finding it difficult to go for my usual walks.
Has anyone got suggestions - how can I loose the weight. I've got 10kg to loose. |

Hi danielle, how r u? hope ur doing ok!. I bought my reductil 15 mg for $79.95 @ Oze pharmacy. I feel great for the past three days...i didnt have trouble sleeping whenever i want to, im a mum of two and i'm used to waking up every now and then. For the past three days ive been eating small amount of healthy food, and i made changes on the time i eat, now i make sure i eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack in between if i feel like eating but no no junk foods and i set my alarm when to eat, i just thought it will be best for me so that i can easily establish a good eating habit after taking the reductil...i've been surfing the web to find out what food is best to eat when on a diet. Dry mouth is still there but not really that bad. Light headedness is gone, no headaches, no constipation, a slight rise on my heart rate i think. Everyday i make sure i excercise( dancing and threadmill). With all the efforts i did for the last three days, surprisingly my husband noticed a slight changes in my body...i weight myself and lost 1 1/2 kilos, hopefully i can manage to continue maintaining the healthy diet and excercising, so that i will loose more weight quicker.
btw, i was thinking of trying the southbeach diet(1st phase:no carbs like bread, rice, cereals...no dairy food and no fruits or any salty and sugary food and it's strictly for 2 weeks, only allowed to eat the food rich in protein, fiber and low fat but have to eat like small amount 5 times a day) while on the pill, coz u know how i get satisfied now with the small amount of food i eat and never feel hungry, i just thought i should loose more weight effectively doing a combination since it's now easy for me to manage eating small and healthy food with satisfaction. Yeah!ur right fingers crossed hopefully we achieve our goal in time. pls. keep me posted too. Wishing u luck also!!!tnx:) |
