Yes stay away from soft cheeses while you are pregnant (such as brie, camembert, feta, ricotta etc).
Hard cheese like a block of cheddar is completely safe during pregnancy, and a good source of calcium.
I've read on the web and in some pregnancy books that women are advised to avoid all herbal teas during pregnancy so that is what I've done. I think this might be because herbs are powerful and often act like medicines to the body. Also, there is probably not enough research to say that herbal teas during pregnancy are safe, so they warn us to avoid them just to be safe.
Other foods to avoid during pregnancy include:
raw mushrooms
soft serve ice cream (from sizzler, hungry jacks etc)
certain fish (because of high levels of mercury)
all deli products (meats, salads, cheese etc)
undercooked meat (make sure all your steaks etc are well done not rare)
raw egg
pate
unpasterised milk or yoghurt |

| I doubt onions are bad during pregnancy but they are an irritant. Garlic on the other hand I would never touch (google Dr bob beck and garlic). I would also side step any product such as diet drinks with Aspartame in it (now carefully hidden on the labels) this stuff is a major league poison. |

Onions that have started to shoot .... PREGNANT WOMEN should NOT eat them as a natural plant hormone produced at the time of shooting CAN bring on miscarriage.
there are many other things too ... but I have forgotten what they all were. |

| Soft cheeses and soft serve icecream are really bad as they are foods that can easily contain listeria and cause food poisoning. As are any raw seafoods and cold meats such as metworst and salami. There are some herbal teas etc that you cannot have during pregnancy - I believe pepermint may be one of them. If you have a pregnancy book it should have a section about what foods to avoid during pregnancy. |

| If at any time you are not sure about what you can and can't eat, speak to your GP or OBGYN. |

Hi,
I have also heard about not being able to consume chamomile tea during pregnancy. This link may prove helpful: http://au.health.yahoo.com/041101/25/1um8.html?r=9 67673115
With soft cheeses, the problem lies with those that have been imported from overseas countries. Some of them don't use pasteurized milk in their soft cheeses. I believe most (but not all) of the Australian cheeses do. Pasteurization kills listeria (which is a bacteria). If you do become sick with listeria, your unborn baby could become very sick or even worse. Just to be on the safe side, I would stick to hard cheeses during the pregnancy. |

I've heard that Chamomile tea isn't good if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Does anyone know why?
I've also heard that you can't eat ricotta or any 'soft' cheeses. Is that true? |
