Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
There is an amazing new drug free patch for pain relief. It works with a cooling effect. All you have to do is apply the patches, and by following the instructions you get amazing pain relief within minutes. Best pain relief breakthrough I have heard about ever! You can also use the ice wave patches anywhere on the body for all different types of pain. I have used them on chronic back pain and after applying the patches my pain was gone in one minute. These patches have been used by Michael Phelps and heaps of other Olympic athletes. David Beckham uses them too. These patches are new to Australia, only been available for a few months. If used correctly, pain relief is acheived and within minutes, with no drugs or side effects. If you want to know more, learn about "icewave patches" at www.lifewave.com/drug-fre e-patches

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
If the migraines are related to onset of menses then there is a hormone imbalance issue there for sure. The imbalance is primarily Estrogen dominance and one thing that has helped many women is using a natural progesterone cream that is extracted from wild yam and made up at a compounding chemist. Estrogen dominance also causes PMS,heavy periods, sore breasts, fibrocystic breasts, decreased libido, fluid retention, depression and anxiety.....need I go on? Also magnesium and Co Q 10 are worth a try. HealthBusters

I agree with this! I use a great product I found online called the Face Caddy. The Face Caddy is a velcro sling that goes around my head and securely holds ice packs in place so I can ice my problem areas 100% hands free. It's great because the icepacks really work and the Face Caddy is a great product for it.

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
Try manuka or jelly bush honey or olive leaf as these kill the bacteria that can produce a migraine.
If its chocolate that triggers it, try carob instead.
2 kiwi fruits or potassium fruit can fix high blood pressure, daily sunshine is also great.
Cayenne pepper capsules help to stabilise low/high blood pressure.

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
As a stress/food/season/weathe r migraine suffer and a menstrual migraine suffer i have tried nearly everything!

Asprin helps, asprin does not help, paracadmol helps then it doesnt, ibruphroven helps then it doesnt, codene and paracadomal helps then it doesnt, it depends on ur cycle, your mood, the sleep, the noise, the world around u.

I can say that i have been told that nothing is going to help menstrual migraines....this is because it is usually heritary and its simply just the change in your hormones which causes the imbalance to realse tension and pain.

As for the person who believes that a migraine isnt a migraine if there isnt any flashing, numbness etc....take from me....i get all sorts of migraine.....AND I KNOW that they come on in different ways at times and most often i haev some sort of light sensitivety but often it is just severe pain......which occurs on teh same side of the head and in the same place without the sensitatively.

Mate many ppl suffer through these daily, weekly etc.

Get some rest, close the door, put the aircon on, wet washer on ur face, do wot ever works, and makes you comfortable.

Seek advice from a doctor, health food specialist or an eye doctor.

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
My husband and daughter both suffered from migraines. My husband used to have to take one of the strongest (and most expensive) medications to get rid of his migraines. My daughter would have to use suppositories to stop the vomitting. Neither one of them have suffered from a migraine since we all started on the original whole-fruit mangosteen juice, which was almost 3 years ago. It is something that we use everyday to improve our general health. You can read more about the benefits of the mangosteen at www.goodhealth2u.info.

I hope this helps.

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
Migraines are caused by the vasodilation of blood vessels in the head and this then presses on nerves which gives the sensation of pain. So the trick is to reduce the vasodilation of blood vessels.
1. take high dose magnesium (helps relax blood vessels and muscles in general)
2. avoid stimulating foods such as caffeine, alcohol and citrus, cheeses, chocolate (all cause vasodilation)
3. learn to relax - be it by meditation, yoga or exercise.
4. have good sleeping patterns. (ie. avoid late nights)

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
look on a web page www.naturalhealthmed.com/ product.html its an american dr reccommending "migra lief" which is magnesium 3300-400mg, feverfew 100mg and riboflavin which is vit b2 400mg, in australia my daughter has had to buy them seperatly and is now trialling it under her dr supervision, her headaches and migraines are very bad every month. there is also a book written about what drs do not always tell you about migraines.

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
Migraines: I have learned to heed food allergies, avoid wheat gluten in every form. Avoid stress, panic, anger no matter how righteous, noise, listening to 2 examples of noise simultaneously, (such as an interesting speaker with a drum background and worse, gradual amplification of background such as drums). Get enough Vit. B. Don't allow fear to stay present. Do something about it.

Icing my face really helps. It's a great home remedy that helps relax your entire body and makes you feel better without having to do a lot. I use this product called icecaddy that allows me to ice my head hands free. I usually sit or lay in a dark room and use the product for a while. It's really great...please respond if you would like more information!

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
Im a chronic migraine sufferer too and have tried so much..
I was recently introduced to excedrin sold over counter in USA, I have managed to ward off my first two migraines with these tablets which for me is amazing. Im still trying to find if its available in Australia. I would definately check with your Dr first due to the high blood pressure.
Good luck

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
You did get some good suggestions here from all people, but don’t discard the food trigger.
Migraines with aura are fairly common migraines but medication that works for one person doe not necessarily work for the other.
Most common foods that trigger migraines are processed cheese, chocolates, red wine, aspartame and many preservatives in the foods.
Stress, hormonal changes, fatigue, certain foods, caffeine, alcohol, and changes in weather or barometric pressure.
Additional triggers may include even perfumes, and physical exertion.
People that suffer from migraines also have a certain amount of depression too ( who would not with constant headaches.)
Some migraines are hereditary.
There are also menstrual migraines triggered around the time woman is about to have her monthly period.
Best way to find out when and why you get migraines is to keep a journal of what you do and what you eat.
And, just going to a GP is not the best thing. Ask to be referred to specialist, neurologist. Specifically one that is specializing in headaches. He might ask you to have MRI just to exclude more serious things.
But don’t just leave it as “ it is just migraine”.
It is not. It is your life and do anything possible to make it pain free so you can enjoy it to the max.

Re:Migraine preventative Reply to this message
you've probably tried this already, but i find that one of the best ways to reduce the pain of my migraines is to put an icepack over the areas that really hurt. It sounds so simple but it actually does work...you should give it a try!

A woman I know said that if she is home and can feel the onset of a migraine she belly dances. She said that it always helps her. If she has a migraine when she gets home and is able to she will belly dance, so Belly dancing is just more than good fun.
