Re:Rhuematoid arthritis sufferers Reply to this message
I am 48 years old. I have been suffering with psoratic arthritis for approximately 4 years with no previous signs of psoriasis or arthritis. It has advanced with extreme aggression and bluntly, has destroyed my life. I have lost my business and livelihood and it has left me in financial ruin. High doses of steroids for 2 years and methotrexate, diclofenac, sulfasalazine an array of anti inflammatory drugs, pain killers and this disease keeps marching on. I have joints that have fused together and others that are deteriorating at an alarming rate. Previously I had always been very physically fit and always eaten good food. I have tried adjusting diet but I find there is limited information available for either this disease or anyone that has bought it under control. At the present rate this disease is advancing I do not believe I have much time to find the right answers. Any comprehensive information that anyone has on proven effective treatment for this condition is most welcome.

I recommend seeing a doctor that specializes in both nutrition and orthodox medicine. There is a good clinic which has a naturopath and doctors working together at www.themedicalsanctuary.c om.au

I've not had much success with bee pollen or glucosamine but some other natural therapies have worked well for me. Thermal therapy garments have helped me with my RA & taking gentle exercise too. There's some helpful info on RA at

I suffered from a debilitating arthritic pain in the shoulder for over two years and after only 5-6 weeks of taking Glucosamine capsules twice daily, got tremendous relief. Now I have NO PAIN. I sometimes forget to take them now, but if I do I get that niggling pain again. It's worth a go. painfreeme

Hi All
My parents have terrible RA. When I was pregnant with excruciating back pain my friend put me onto Dead Sea salts. It was a God send. While pregnant I did not want to take any meds and found this was the only thing that helped. Since then my parents have been using it too and they too have found great relief - I know that soaking in the bath with these salts and it helping sounds far fetched but trust me it works. My dad has ulcers so any of the anti inflammatory meds cause him problems. Look it's not a cure but he, like me and friends I've recommended it to definitely get noticeable benefit. Best of all it does no harm and contains no chemicals.

I buy the stuff cheaply off ebay for my parents and myself.
I hope you get as much relief as I got
...Amy

Re:Rhuematoid arthritis sufferers Reply to this message
I have had some issues with joint pain as a side effect of coeliac disease which means that I have difficulty absorbing nutrients. From what I have read arthritis can actually be a side affect of most NSAIDs, that is Non Steroid Aint Inflammatory Drugs e.g. ibuprofen. To reduce arthritis your daughter needs to be strict with her diet and cut out sugar. I recommend taking a multivitamin, reading books on therarpies that work such as gentle strength training and diet, taking cod liver oil tablets, drinking lots of water, and I find that I need to take glucosamine on a daily basis to manage the condition. She may have allergies that need to be dealt with too. Highly recommend seeing a nutritionist that specialises in this condition, and a naturopath. Even better if you can see a qualified Nutritional Medicine professional. Best of luck - there is hope out there - start reading books at your library, after all they are free!

I have recently been diagnosed with RA but my case is difficult in that the doctors feel mine is very rapid acting . Since my diagnosis 2 months ago I have had 20 flare ups in different areas of my body. I am on multiple meds which for me I have never been on anything stronger than tylenol for occasional Headaches-any suggestions on how to slow the flare ups and get off some of these meds? I am desperate for help but my doctors keep giving me pills!

A gluten-free dairy-free diet can help ANY auto-immune problem. This dramatically improved my state with psoriatic arthritis. Goat or sheep milk products are the best used as a dairy alternative. "Joint Care" by 'NutraLife' from health food stores is really good (glucosamine, chondrotin, copper, manganese, zinc, selenium).
My case was complex and rare, I was dying at 24yrs. with a newborn. That was 10 yrs. ago. PLEASE look after yourselves, try the diet. It's hard at first but you get used to it. PERSEVERE, the effects aren't instant, but if you stick with it you will be SOOO GLAD you did.

My father has had problems in the past with his knees, lower back and fingers.
He's been using a specific range of products from Herbalife including Joint Support and a few others that his wellness coach personalised in a program for him.

He now doesn't suffer from knee pain and his lower back pain (that he has had for over 20 years) has reduced dramatically.

I can send some information about what he's using and contact info for his distributor.
Marian.

Update: Forget my other entry.

Try : Glucosime with MSN.........get high quality stuff from a naturopath or knowledgable health store.

Even medical doctors are prescribing it here in Canada, and most older people I have talked to say that their pain is mostly gone, too.

Oh, and, take more than is advised on the bottle. It can't hurt you- it helps produce the fluid that is missing around joints with arthritis sufferers.

Re:Rhuematoid arthritis sufferers Reply to this message
I am taking Prednisolone and have been for 3 years now. It is NOT a pain killer, it's designed to suppress the immune system so it stops attacking your own tissues(R.A., Lupus etc). It also causes problems of its own but you need to weigh up what's worse for you. I have lupus and suffer from joint pain and swelling. I was willing to put up with this and not have drugs, but when my body started attacking my red blood cells and I became so anaemic that I had no choice but to start steroids.

What about the progressive damage that occurs in the joints of RA patients? Prednisone will also alleviate pain but it will not stop the progression of the disease. I am open to anything other than the hard RA drugs that are available but I am concerned about the progression.

Re:Rhuematoid arthritis sufferers Reply to this message
I have had arthritis for four years or so and until
recently couldn't find a totally effective way to
ease the joint discomfort until recently.

R.A is a Immune system failure. So what triggers such
a failure ? My own hunch is the lack of a good to bad bacterial balance.

Don't believe me ?

Since I have been using a specific organic
probiotic supplement,I have not experienced
any joint pain in the last three out of the
four months I have been using this product.

It seems the lack of joint pain is an added
benefit.

I originally started using this probiotic
as I used to have a hard time doing number
two's.

I stumbled onto this by pure chance and
it seem's to work for me.

Re:Rhuematoid arthritis sufferers Reply to this message
Firstly Osteo arthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis are not the same thing. If you have R.A. the drugs you may be on are designed to suppress your immune system as it is your own immune system that is attacking your joints, due to antibodies in your body that we are not meant to have. Osteo is due to wear and tear so may benefit more from supplements etc. If you have R.A. don't go off meds without consulting your rheumatologist as you may cause more long term damage to your body. Also be careful with Royal Jelly as I believe it can cause major allegic reactions especially if you are asthmatic.
