TO ARTEMIS SHINE: just saw your post re GERD. I have Barrette's and have been diagnosed by a specialist in this field, who prescribed Somac, which prevents stomach acid from forming and thus inflaming the oesophagus further, and , in some cases, can assist with healing. NO side effects. Good luck and hope u have good medical advice.

Forgot to say that our brother had suffered "heartburn" for many years and tried all sorts of "natural" remedies , plus antacids, UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. Be careful.

Can't understand some of these posts as GERD can be a deadly pre-cursor to cancer. I really hope you people advocating "natural" therapies/remedies have been properly checked out. As I stated before, our family saw one of our brothers suffer with oesophagal cancer and he ended up with entire oesph and top of stomach removed, chemo, radiotherapy and constantly developed secondary cancers until he died a grisly and very painful death . Morphine at it's strongest did not even touch the pain. Don't want to be a scaremonger, but this subject is serious and needs professional diagnosis and treatment.

Granny Smith Apples, try to pick nice dark green ones.
Apple Cider Vinegar 2 x table spoon, close your eyes and swollow but it works well,i only use th vinegar when it is really bady which is alot.
I also have been on Somac 40g once a day for 4 weeks, no side effects but i still get pain some times and that's when i pull out an apple or in this evenings case vinegar.
Make sure you alway have apples in your shopping and take an apple every where you go, I also have one in my bag.

I would love to know about "natural" remedies for reflux, heartburn and GERD as I suffer badly. I've read how the prescription drugs, long term, really caust you body to produce more acid. I've had friends tell me they've been told about a specific kind of apple, red potatoes and something else but they couldn't remember. If you know these 3 foods, or others, that really work, please share with me. please e-mail me at bevhath@carolina.rr.com

Re:acid reflux and heartburn Reply to this message
AcipHex 20mg for heartburn is AWESOME!!! NO HEADACHES or NAUSEA those are the only side effects that would be caused by Nexium. Nexium is a good drug and millions upon millions have been helped by it. It just may not be right for your husband.

Re:acid reflux and heartburn Reply to this message
I was also on Nexium prior to being diagnosed with Barrett's oesophagus, but I think the Somac can be obtained on an "authority" script which is some weeks worth at a greatly reduced price. I believe this is because I'm on the Somac for life. The Nexium made me quite nauseous also.

Re:acid reflux and heartburn Reply to this message
PLS PLS PLS GET ACID REFLUX CHECKED OUT PROPERLY ****** My brother died of oesophagal cancer as had suffered "heartburn" for years. It developed into cancer - this type of cancer is pretty deadly and the trmt horrible. I am permanently on Somac to prevent acid buildup and future cancer as I now have a pre-cancerous condition that can lead to the same fate had I not had it checked. I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Please take care of yourselves.

Re:acid reflux and heartburn Reply to this message
I agree with you nexium is a nightmare, after taking it the emergy just left me, Ihad a heavyness on my chest and severe breathlessness that lasted 24 hours. It was scary, When I told the gastroenterologist he told me I had panic attacks when taking medication and what he would prescribe me was a tranquilizer, What chance have we got when the doctors wont believe our severe side effects. I think some of them should be baned. I find the net Has been my best help and educator. I have my reflux under control now. Meadowsweet, slippery elm powder, aleovera juice, purified water-chlorine irritates stomack. digestive emzymes, noni juice, Neprinol is brilliant. YOu can contact me on tis email.

I've been taking Manuka Honey from New Zealand and it's helped quite a bit. Google "Manuka Honey" for more information about how it helps.
