| I repeat my previous warning. Please DO NOT muck around with alt therapy for reflux. I had a brother die of oesophageal cancer due to ignoring reflux in so much as using "natural/alt" therapies. I take Somac or I probably wld also be dead now from the same disease. |

I tried to purchase a copy of a natural remedy book for reflux on the net, but it wouldn't accept PayPal and wanted credit card details which I didn't want to give so hence couldn't buy the book. Can you please share with us what the remedy is. I know one thing they said is apples - can you fill us in on any more.
Thanks
Tracey
P.S. Would be happy to pay for a copy of the report from you if I can pay by PayPal |

| I would just like to say a big thankyou to everyone here who has had an input, into helping others because you have been very helpful to me as well, as my partner has barretts oesophagus and is on Nexium and I have a Hiatus Hernia and also suffer from heartburn. So I will be buying some apples and more apples, along with trying the apple cider vinegar. |

| eldersgrowdown, that may be good for some, BUT, with my barretts oesophagus, it would do much harm! We do have to be careful about heartburn/reflux as it can be the pre-cursor to more serious conditions if not treated properly. Appreciate your sentiments. |

| Hi, a great CURE for heartburn, and you will NEVER have heartburn again is, when you have heartburn one night have one tablespoon of Mustard (a good mustard, not hot and not the watered down version, just regular english or american will do) as soon as you have it, it will burn but only for a few seconds, then it'll go away. Try not to eat anything else after and in the morning have about half as much mustard again. I promise you I never had heartburn again, it's been about 4 years since then. I got this natural cure from another poster. |

| My daughter is a TOF/OA her stomach is 16cm from her lips, we spent the first 6 months in hospital. She had a gastric pull up after that the next 18 mths were in and out of hospital 2 times a month for a week or two at a time. She had lung disease also. I researched many products Noni, Goji, Green Barley powder with a child I needed something she liked to take, she had been on numerous drugs so the taste was essential that she enjoyed the drink or product. She has had 50 endoscopies, we have been on Xango for 5 years, she has never had Barrets or burning of the scar which is only 6mm at the opening to the small piece of oesophagus. She has not taken any GERD medications for 4 and half years, she has her endoscopy every year now the last on in October last year, no burn. For my child Xango has been the most wonderful natural product God has put on this planet. Preventative! Consistency is the key as with any product natural or pharmaceutical. |

| scoeys, once again, I'm concerned! have you had an endoscopy, cardiac checks etc??? I don't understand why GP's are not attending to these symptoms as they truly can be symptoms of nasty diseases. I know as one of my brothers died a horrific death from oesoph. cancer. Very traumatic and had oesp and top of stomach removed. |

| Hi Fifi, I was diagnosed with acid reflux in winter 08, i do not get the normal heartburn, i get severe chest pains, tightening of the chest and bloating (and some of the time it also causes vomiting) it is that bad where i have to lie down also until it passes, i cannot move, need my head slightly propped, and have trouble breathing and talking. i have even had to call an ambulance a few times as it is like i'm having a heart attack (i'm only 24) it is quite a rare symptom. my doc put me onto Omezoprole (Losec) which i found to make it worse. It happens any time of the day whether i have eaten/drank or not. I am yet to find something to stop it, but i have found eggs, potato and coffee set it off. The pain for me usually lasts from 30mins onwards, the longest i have had it for was about 6hrs, which was from drinking a cup of coffee. Also the last few nights we had mashed potato with our dinner and about half hour after i was on the couch in pain, so last night i ate only mashed potato to see if it was the cause and sure enough i was in pain again within a half hour, so now potato is out of my diet. |

hello tash
thanks again.
This last week not feeling like eating food I took to bran and cereal so I am eating more fibre than I did. Also fat is down to a minimum..... I shall see how I go. I have also stopped drinking coffee and wine and have not eaten carbs or meat for a week. Obviously this is a bit of a shock to the jolly old system.... am going to see how I go this week and then see the doco.
I am also Type 11 diabetic so not eating regularly could also be proving a problem.
I have to say I am feeling fed up with all these possibilities going on.
I have been soooo healthy all my life, its getting me down a bit.
But as I said previously I am not a wimp and shall follow my instinct and see the doco if nothing improves after the de tox had ended with all this ...clean... living.
bye for now tash and take care aye? |

| Hi Fifi, no, I don't know anything about the bile, intestines etc, but sounds like you need a very good gastro specialist asap. My bile leakage is fixed and can't re-occur. I suspect it was caused by a little accidental cut! But. I'll never know. I have a problem with fat in the diet and also high fibre, but this is probably just me. look after yourself. If you live in Adelaide, I'll give you the name of my gastro guy. |

Hello tash
thanks for your follow up message. Only just seen it. I have been ill all week lol...
Feeling sick and yet my body has been repulsed by the thought of food when I did have that gnawing feeling in my stomach. Only had fluid all week.. shall go to the doco this week.
Do you know whether my comments are true about the bile dripping straight into intestines and causing problems. Do you have any problems these days? Do you have to be careful of certain foods.
I dont remember being told a thing about it by my doco/spec.
Thanks for your interest in my problem..
Take care. |

| hi fifi. What a strange thing that you mention the g/b after surgery side effects or complications! I was meant to have the spec who had done my consult perform my g/b op, but he was called away to an emergency, so I ended up with a "p plater" and was back in hospital less than a week later with a bile leakage. You don't want to go there! This was the most agonising, scary condition - the internal organs are vitually slopping around in bile!!! UGH. It's life threatening, and was so bad (forget childbirth - that's a breeze in comparison) that I wanted to die. I was given 5 different versions of events by that hospital - so am very suss about a possible slip of the scalpel during the initital op. I had a tube inserted from my stomach into a bag(outside) into which emptied this putrid bile (for weeks!). One good thing, I was so ill that I lost lots of weight! Keep well. |

hello tash
thanks for the information.
This doesnt happen very often and I cannot make a pattern out of it... i.e. whether its after eating meat... or pasta or spicy sauce or cheese etc. It can happen in the morning before I have eaten or drunk anything. As I said I have to go and lie down as its a forceful feeling (and I am not a wimp and like things to go away on their own).
Funny you should advise me to get a competent doco. I had a sidekick to a surgeon to remove my gallbladder. I was prepped at 6 a m. I was wheeled in six hours later... I heard a male voice ranting and raving about leaving at 12..... then he was told I was waiting. I thought .. hope thats not my doco.... well yes it was... I was petrified he would rush things.
Now I have heard that you can get into big trouble after your gallbladder is removed as the bile isnt evenly distributed into your system and it drips bile into your intestines/stomach (not healthy!!) so I wonder whether he removed it because it was quicker than removing stones one by one.
Anyway its done now. So I dont know whether its reflux or gallstones. Yes I shall have to start all over again but the feeling I get is one that rises in my chest and goes to my throat and ears.....
I am glad you are keeping up with your check ups.
Good health to you and thanks again.. |

| PS: gallstones can re-accumulate, but maybe you need to find a really competent doctor to have everything checked out - could be any number of things. |

| REflux/heartbutn can present as a burning sensation in the chest and/or in the back of the throat. Sometimes a bitter liquid can be forced into the back of the throat almost like regurgitation. This would normally wake you up as it can be a choking sensation. I haven't experienced these symptoms since being prescribed Somac tabs and have a "surveillance" endoscopy every 2 years to check for cancerous cells. All clear again! good luck. |

how does this feel exactly.
From time to time something really nasty happens to me and I have to lie down til it passes.
Doco wasnt very interested when I mentioned it a few years back.
It resembles the pain I had before I had my gallbladder removed because of stones.
Can the stones accumalate again do you think.
Such a coincidence.
Would appreciate a quick idea of the feeling of acid reflux and heartburn.
Thanks to you... |

| christinehorton, have you been correctly diagnosed by a specialist? I really worry about you people with these "natural remedies" as stated before, these can be dangerous conditions if not correctly treated. Sounds like the doc who prescribed your meds was not on the ball at all.Good luck. |

| PS: reflux and heartburn are classed as one and the same and can be very dangerous precursor to cancer. |
