Enze yes i am just so angry still because this was even prescribed for me to take....and i was forced... my rights were taken away from me.
It was injected into me fornightly. and steadily i got worse. So if you have never had this medication.. Please don't be saying that its okay to give . Personally i don't think it should be passed out to anybody elderly or the young!
As i said earlier it has made me a diabetic, ruined my gut, so now my food won't digest.. and the kidneys aren't great now..... My liver too wasn't the best. thanks goodness i started a decent diet, then after some time, the liver recouperated....but still my muscle suffer, and i have some other problems which i won't get into.....but that stuff should be banned...and the wacko's prescribing it......should give it to themselves :)

Dont follow you bubyshka. It's unbelievable that I should say what?

If you're ok without meds, thats the best news.
If you (or anyone) needs them, then they should take them.
Or any remedy that works and doesnt cause any harm or has the least side effects.
Sometimes side effects are unavoidable though, like those from anti-rejection meds or chemo. It comes down to an individuals personal choice after viewing all the options and facts - and being prepared to take responsibility for the consequences if they decide not to take the meds.

I dont take meds unless I have to for my own health and wellbeing and I dont expect others to either as long as they can make an informed choice.

I hope you stay well.

Risperidone obviously didnt suit you bubyshka, but I have seen it work very well on others. Like a lot of meds of this type, it can take 2-3 weeks at least for it to reach theraputic levels in the body and for any benefits to begin being felt by the user or for others to start noticing any effects. Sedation is a common side effect, particularly in the early stages and not just in the elderly.
I hope you have found something since thats suits you and that is giving you some positive benefits.

I agree. My dear old Mum has dementia and was becoming increasingly aggressive, paranoid, delusional etc etc. Her GP tried variety of medications and it has only been risperidone that finally has given her some relief. Her memory is much better as she is less anxious and whilst life is far from normal, it is the best we have seen her for a long, long time.

Re:Warning - Risperidone / Risperdal Reply to this message
It's a shame you've had this experience of Risperidone because used in the right way, it can provide relief for people in very distressed states.
Like all medication, it has side effects but the degree to which people experience side effects, if any, can vary between individuals.
Ideally all meds should be started at a low dosage then titrated up or down as necessary depending on responses and side effects.
Thankfully more and more people these days are able to find out for themselves about their medications via the net or are more forthcoming about asking their Dr or Pharmacist about them.

It certainly does andrew. and i think the only way to stop it is through soliciter and taking them to court.
They seem to like using this nasty drug willy nilly.
I too have had personal experiences with this drug.
They should be hung strung and quartered!!!!
They don't care, we are just guinea pigs... for them to trial these drugs i'm sure.?

Warning - Risperidone / Risperdal Reply to this message
Across Australia we still allow public hospitals & Nuring homes to use RISPERIDONE / RISPERDAL as a chemical restraint to silence patient objections to their treatment or being incarerated while their family sells their home.

In the US the FDA warning is on the manufacture's own publication http://www.risperdal.com

And the FDA has a copy the manufacture's other warning about causing strokes at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformati on/SafetyAlertsforHumanMedicalProducts/ucm168933.h tm

In the US it is illegal to subdue a person's / patient's will and their courts prosecute nursing homes if they use Risperidone. But not here in Australia, it is up to you to know the dangers and intended effects.

Of course in my case my sister told the social workers that I was suicidal over my father's death & was schizophrenic, so they appointed my sister instead of the carer as the "person responsible" and she told the hospital that our mother was "aggressive" and had had "Alzheimer's for 5 yrs" - both untrue - but they acted on my sister's words and used Risperidone on a stroke victim to declare her demented and put her in a dementia nursing home while my sister sells our home.

So knowing about these drugs matters.
