| As if you would sugest to ban nexium because of your husbands experience with it. How about just try something else instead of robbing all the users of nexium of their heartfelt (literally) glee ? |

| Have been on Nexium for about 4 years due to overly acidic tummy and reflux and I have NEVER had any side effects. It works really well for me and I am SO happy that I am on it. |

| Good luck with finding a good doctor to diagnose/treat you. Must be very difficult living there - didn't realise. Easy for me here in Oz. Might be something easily fixed hopefully. |

| my main issue is , what if I dont have gastritis ? All these pills I took for the last 6 months must have damaged something in my system, dont u think? I wonder if I ever feel normal again. It is really hard to find a doctor nowadays that cares enough to want you to feel better , than one that just prescribes u anything to get rid of you quickly |

| i know for sure now that I can not take any PPI medicaton, I think I am allergic to this medication. I went to see another general practitioner and she prescribed me 20 mg PPI, not nexium this time. An hour after I took this medication, I started getting severe back aches again. dizziness and nausea followed.I took this one pill on thursday morning, today is sunday and I still suffer.Only from one pill!! I will schedule an appointment with internal medicine tomorrow and we see from there. I am really worried if I damaged any of my organs by taking these pills that only brought me more sufferings , than relief. Problem is that I am stationed in South Korea with my hubby( army) and I dont know how the medical care is.I keep u posted, thanks for ur concern. |

| charmingv, I just looked up gastritis on the Better Health channel and it can lead to stomach cancer if not correctly treated. Diagnosis by endoscopy or biopsy. PLEASE get checked out properly. All the best. |

| You have had a rough trot! What is "gastritis"? and don't you need to be properly diagnosed? If I hadn't been correctly diagnosed with Barrett's oesophagus (and now closely monitored) I may have developed cancer. This has been prevented (touch wood) by professional diagnosis and control.A brother died in 1997 of oesph. cancer (terrible) and had decided to self-treat .... didn't work. Be careful and take good care of yourself. |

I am glad I found this forum. I was treated for my acid with nexium, which gave me such a severe backache, that I thought I am losing it.Bad thing is , I have bulging discs in my neck, so when I went back to the doctor he blamed my disc for the back pain and prescribed me some heavy duty painkillers , which made my stomach worse.I got so tired of having these back pains that I just quit taking all medications and slowly I started to feel like myself again. I had to realize that I cant take any medication for my gastritis and so now I drink alot of chamomille tea and magnesium pills and just watch what I eat. Oh by the way I was never properly diagnosed for my gastritis, the doctor just thought that it is that. I also believe that nexium causes my kidneys to hurt.I drink a lot of water during the day but never had kidney problems, well last blood test showed a elevated potassium result. This is what I think , it hasn't been proven , just need to get rid of all my frustrations here. Had problems for 6 months alltogether.
hope to hear back soon |

| neil, I couldn't tolerate Nexium, but have been taking Somac for quite some time and it's great - no side effects and I find it much more effective than Nexium, although my problem is oesophagal as well as a hiatus hernia. |

I have been having the burning stomach pian for around a year now. Had a scan and the camera that showed small hiatal herina. Been on and off Nexium. I haven't tried Somac. The Dr believes Nexium to be the best. It doesn't always seem to work though. I have also tried Motilium. I am interested in your comment about the 2 glasses of water and jump technique. Can you explaim what to do and how that works? |

Hi Steph,
No surgery as I don't think it is required at this stage. Had a camera look at it and it is small but inflamed. I am doing a massage technique as well as the 2 glasses of water and jump trick each morning. I have had good response from Somac with nil side effects so far. I guess if it does not settle down in 6mths I will look at other things.
Regards
Craig |

| I hate taking drugs and tried not eating certain foods, losing weight, etc but there are certain foods like fish (fish oil tabs) that I need to take for heart health. So far so good with Somac with no headaches and feeling OK. I will give them 6 months to allow my Hietal Hernia to settle down and I will stop to see if better. I have a constant reminder of my holiday in Fiji 2 years ago when I "scoffed" myself on all that good food and Fiji beer. Thats when this pain began!! |

| hathserve, you are right about all those medications. The Somac works so well for me with no side effects. I have to take it for life and have found it to be the only one tht I can tolerate with no ill effects. My oesophagus has acutally healed somewhat after using it for over a year, so I'm happy! Good luck |

| Nexium works well but gives me a headache. I tried Pariet which also worked well but it made me feel anxious and nervous as well as night terrors. I got quite freaky on that stuff and discontinued use and returned to normal. I stopped using PP's and returned to diet and H2 (ranidine) 150mg once a day but that did not quite relieve the "burning feeling" from my Hiatus hernia. I am back on Nexium to cool things down a bit and guess what.. the headaches back. My Doc gave me some sample packs of Somac and Zoton which I intend to trial. I have no doubt and my wife would agree that Rabeprazole (Pariet) caused behaviour problems so I would be interested in other people who have experienced similar symptoms. Nexium was OK apart from headaches. |

| amy, somac is used for this condition and seemed the better option for me. No side effects and can be prescribed on an "authority" script (lge quantity and cheap) if needed as on-going medication. Your DR shld be able to advise you, but Nexium did not agree with me at all. Good luck. |

| I was given Nexium last week for GERD. I developed a sudden backache that lasted for 4 days-- until I put two and two together and stopped taking it after reading the enclosed pamphlet. I believe there is definitely a connection with Nexium and the terrible backache. Unfortunately, it worked really well for my severe substernum pain coming from GERD (acid reflux). |

| barrettes isa pre-cancerous condition of the oesophagus, cause by acid reflux over a period of time. The Somac tabs help by decreasing amt of acid produced and thus (hopefully!) preventing cancer of the oesph, which is pretty ghastly. SO important to have reflux conditions diagnosed properly. One of my bro's died of this cancer and it was shocking. |

| I was prescribed this a few yrs ago, until diagnosed with Barrette's oesophagus and now on Somac, which controls the acid but with no side-effects like Nexium which made me feel very light-headed and nauseous. |

That's odd rushcdau,
Nexium is prescribed for reflux and stomach ulcers.
I have just started on it a week ago for reflux and after 3 days of nausea, I feel fine.
It has helped me like nothing else has. |

Am very interested in anyone with side effects of Nexium. Husband has been prescribed this 6 months now, 40mg a day. The drug has worked exceptionally well but side effects become too intolerable. Research on effects have been eye opener and explains much of further problems experienced. Am searching for natural remedies here and other net sites. This forum link I shall add at the bottom of my post shocked me to say the least and many side effects reported here my husband has suffered, headaches, backache, joint pain, burning sore feet, nausea, and on and on more side effects appeared.
Has ceased the drug with some, not all side effects dispersing, slowly. Several opinions from different GP's have all given the go ahead as Nexium being a "safe very effective with minimul side effects drug". I do not believe this. This drug should be banned?
Views, experiences, good and bad much appreciated.
