I'm wondering since you're such a fan of this corrupt
business if you work for them? My husband used to, up until last Friday before he was sacked (made redundant?) after four years of loyal service. I wonder if you will still be singing their praises when you find out how corrupt they really are. His boss was nothing but a bully and a thief. If these are they types of people you like then you must be the same.

My husband also got the sack (redundant?) last Friday after devoting the past four years of his life to them, but in return, he was bullied, intimidated and made to feel worthless, by his manager in Sydney. He was replaced by someone who has only been with the company for two years, who is only a technician – my husband was the state maintenance manager – figure it out?? So was he made redundant, or sacked? I think it was the latter. Fitness (Finance) First is going through a rampage of sacking nearly everyone they can get their hands on. I'll be the first to split my sides laughing when they go down, and when they do – it would have happened to a better company.

Wow, and I read articles in the Herald that state it is employee's moral duty to take a wage cut due to the recession. Employers are more often than not totally ruthless whatever the economic climate. How can you be reasonable when you're up against a company like this?

Do yourself a favour and never be associated with them. I've edited my resume to make it look like I was never there.

The most horrible people to work for and completely unethical in their dealings with customers.

Ten angry people cannot change the climate or topple the government, but ten angry people can beat the heck out of everyone in the fitness first boardroom until they promise to be nice. Don't underestimate vilence as a means of conflict resolution... it is the oldest form.

Oh my goodness! Is this for real? I will be working for fitness first as a Membership sales consultant, starting on Tuesday 3 November 2008. Do you really get paid monthly? If this is the case, I dont want to work for them.

Fitness First staff do not get a copy of their earnings and get paid on a monthly basis.

I don't know if getting paid monthly is a crime but certainly they have to provide you with a payslip or record of earnings when they pay you

There are heaps of forums and messages for people who are having problems with Fitness First as members and by now the word has gotten around Australia about how dodgy they are- But what about all the ex Fitness First staff?
Fitness First have possibly the highest turnover of staff rate in the country for a big business!
They treat their employees far worse than the members.
Yes members get ignored and ripped off, but the staff get a much worse cop.
Massive long shifts for membership consultants who are under a ridiculous amount of call centre like pressure to sell and close deals on an hour by hour basis.
They are very closely micromanaged by a mid manager the (ACGM- Assistant General Manager/Sales Manager) and more often than not will work in excess of a 12 hour non stop day with little to n break at all.
The ACGN/Sales Manager wears the pressure thrown at him from exutives and his Club General Manager to achieve ridiculously set budgets as well as maintain the club and look after all staff and members.
The club General Manager is generally either trying to sell also or is a slacker and simply gets results by lumping more pressure on to the ACGM and the consultants by bullying and threats.
In my case I had two years of experience with Fitness First. I started as a membership consultant and worked my way up to being a Club General Manager before injuring my back falling down three flights of stairs at my home club and being sacked whilst on workcover!
Since then they havent paid me any annual leave for no reason and I have never had a holiday from the day i first started.
They owe me over $4000 and it was rare if I ever saw an employee being paid correctly.
Fitness First staff do not get a copy of their earnings and get paid on a monthly basis.
They get a lot of commissions and also a lot of reversed commisions. Meaning a deduction from your next wage if a new member you joined cancelled within his/her first three months.
Can you believe it ...
