Oh yeah. Id misplaced my membership card so they said the cards replacement would cost $15-$20. She gave me the card and changed my number on the computer while there. It took barely a few seconds. Then of course I found the lost card a few days later and so went to give the new one back. They took it back but wouldnt refund the monies as now I was informed the monies are to pay for the girls time amending my membership on the computer. I said "You mean the few seconds it took her to type it in when I stood here?".....the answer was of course yes. Wow what service and care. Its like any slight chance they have they will rip you and tell you anything to avoid acknowledging it. Theres ways to make money but this is truely shameful to stoop for your every cent.

Re:Fitness First - Worst Gym Group in Au ... Reply to this message
Im glad someone bought this up for people to post on.
I am a reluctant member of FF.
When I first went in I tried two places and joined one.
Then hell began. DAily Id get 3-4 calls for a month solid asking me to join. Really annoying when working. Everytime I said I had already joined and take me off the list, they just kept calling and calling. I eventually said its "Bloody harrassment!" but the thick head operators they employ just keep ringing the next one and so you get more calls the next day. They dont care.
Then THE MANAGER signed me up. I told him exactly the deal I wanted and he had the paper work all done on arrival. It wasnt what I asked and I was totally accurate. But IM visually almost blind and cant read but he obviously took advantage of that. Then by the time I worked it out and they were slogging me a much higher fee, he avoided my every call and letter for months. Even when approached its the "Im onto it!...excuse..excuse..del ay delay..." but wouldnt stop taking the money...the guys a jerk. He tried to tempt me away from another fitness first down the road by saying he would give me some free passes so I can still go every now and then with my collegue who attended there also. Apparently he shouldnt be under cutting the other clubs like this either. Finally they wouldnt refund any of the money, wouldnt show me my contract and been jerks since.
Its a scam in hindsight. Staff hate it and move on really quickly, dont change light bulbs to save power, HWS shocking so nobody can stay in shower for long, unhygenic, sauna etc always never turned on or out of order and it takes ages to fix.
Its all smiles until they have you then your just another number with $ but your second grade now as yourpaying and stuck.
Ive never complained or had too. But this one took the cake.
I just cant wait till I can get away from such a horrid place

Re: cancelling membership. Have you followed the procedure as stated on the contract? Your intention to cancel your membership must be stated in writing and delivered to the club where your membership was established. If you have done this then FF are bound by law to refund any monies they are not entitled to - but also bear in mind the timimg of when they stop debiting your account (this is also stated on the contract that you signed).

Of course FF can always deny that they received your written notice - this is why I have always strongly recommended sending a registered letter for which they would have to sign for and you would be sent a copy of that receipt.

DO NOT trust FF to ever do the right thing when it comes to taking your money. They have made an art form of using every dodgy technique in the book to screw you over.

I've had the worst experience with Fitness First in trying to cancel my membership, as well. I am now taking action by informing anyone thinking about joining up with them in a number of forum sites of my distressing experience. Hopefully, so that they can all better informed before signing the dotted line. Hope those with similar experiences will do the same. It's may be a good way to get FF to sit up and take notice. Spread the word.

I am still being screwed around by Fitness First. My 12-month contract ended 3 months ago. Been trying to cancel it for the past 2 months without any luck. They're still raiding my bank account. I am seeking help from Consumer Affairs office at the moment. If you're thinking of joining up with them, think again. Don't be sucked in like I have been. Never again! FF can go and get F'd!!!!!

What a load of rot..... You don't know the first thing about FF and the Pt's. I have a good friend that is a very successful PT and to bring it to ur ATTENTION the PT Manager doesn't and isn't allowed to take members through their sessions as it's not in there job description and further more the trainers are supported as much as possible and have the opportunity to convert new members to do PT on a daily basis. Maybe you should train yourself at home.

Yeah, I received a voucher for two free thirty minute P.T. sessions. But I let the trainer choose the day and time because I figured that FF would be screwing him and wanted to soften the blow by working in with his schedule.

Unfortunately the Personal Trainers at the club are not even told they are going to be offering free services. Fitness First goes about it's business without even informing it's sub contractors it is offering their services for free. This is another example of fitness first ripping off their sub contractors to do free work to try and maintain their membership. If you want good advice, don't even think about working there. The Pt turnover rate is incredibly high.

Re:Fitness First - Worst Gym Group in Au ... Reply to this message
Hi - just to let you know my experience. Joined FF in 2005 when new gym was opening. There were consultants at the nearest shopping centre signing people up. The girl I spoke to CLEARLY stated that the fortnightly fees would stay the same as long as I was a member - I clarified this with her "Do you mean that if I am a member for the next 20years my fees will still be $30.95/fortnight?" she said Yes..though it did not state that in the contract. @ of my friends who joined in a similar had the same conversation. 2years later received a letter saying that it was going up and I complained... I needed to both email and write letters and send a stat dec outlining the conversation, but now have it in writing that my fees will NOT go up from $30.95/fortnight, as long as I remain a member. If you had this conversation with staff - follow it up and make them honour it!!

Beyond all that - have not had a problem with them and have loved getting fit...

There is NOTHING in the terms and conditions that stipulates that you must visit the club to cancel your membership - see the following I copied from the FF website:-

1. You can terminate your membership after the minimum term if you give us 30 days
notice. See 2(b) and (c) for when the period starts.
2. You must be aware that:
a. Your termination notice must be in writing and delivered to your club.
b. Your termination notice period starts only after: (1) We send back to you our
written receipt of your termination notice. We promise to do this within 7
days of the date we receive your termination notice. (2) Your next direct debit
occurs.

I started to advise FF about my intention to cancel four months before the end of my contract (I actually asked if I could pay the entire remaing due payments out in one go and have them stop billing my credit card - but no way were they going to go for that). I advised them first in writing, then via the website (feedback) then in writing again - registered, then via website again. They called once and told me I could only cancel the membership if I physically went down to my club. In teh end they still managed to scam and extra payment. Dodgy, Dodgy , Dodgy !!

Re:Fitness First - Worst Gym Group in Au ... Reply to this message
Yeah - most of the PTs are not making a lot of money but they have made a career choice. They are a bit like musicians in that only the top one percent become financially secure. I have seen a couple of PTs move into FF sales roles, no doubt because they weren't cutting it as trainers.

I know one guy who has an office job but also makes good money on the side training a handful of clients (FF members) using FF facilities. By working under the radar this way he doesn't have to shell out the rent that FF charges the official PTs. His clients prefer to use him because they know that he has a lot more knowledge and experience that the average pop-out FF PT.

Re:Fitness First - Worst Gym Group in Au ... Reply to this message
Fitness First are beyond corrupt. I love the statement that FF "gives" their trainers clients, this is far from the case. It's bad enough being told the only way you can get clients is harrass the gym members on a daily basis, but when someone comes in requesting a personal trainer, the PT manager keeps that lead for themselves. It's madness.

Never join fitness first.

So natpvc has, in just over 2 months, gone from being a semi literate FF receptionist to a qualified personal trainer with her own studio. Yeah right !! :-)

Later folks, I'm off to the cape to prepare for my next space shuttle mission.

JessiePaddo why didn't you include the ENTIRE story about FF and Suh Yoke Chong?
Why didn't you include the part about how the issue was NOT about a measly $200 and how it was refunded AFTER they won the case anyway?

Re:Fitness First - Worst Gym Group in Au ... Reply to this message
hahaha where did you get your info from?
They pay $200 p/wk rent to FF as they are sub contractors. Meaning they have their own business name, ABN etc.
They work for themselves, charge their own prices, work their own hours and use FF facilities. In return FF give them clients until they build up a base of their own.
If you want to make good money as a trainer and gain easy clients you start at FF until you've got a great network and can afford your own studio. Like I did.

Do any of you morons actually read your terms and conditions before joining a gym. Really, I have no sympathy. Next time, ask around, ask friends etc what gym they use, and read your conditions. If you are stupid enough to sign a CONTRACT without reading it you are plain foolish.

You need to refer to the terms and conditions of the contract :- http://www.fitnessfirst.com.au/corporate/terms

You cannot simply sell your membership - there are strict conditions under which you may be able to transfer your membership.
