| Guys - I am a close personal friend of the owner of KX Fitness. The main reason that KX closed is that the rent was way too high and due to the greediness of the property owner KX could not even cover the weekly rent towards the end... The fact that Fitness First opened did not help the situation at all either. What they did in terms of standing out front and handing out leaflets is actually illegal to do - but hey, whadda ya gonna do... |

| Hi Andrew. Have only ever been there on a casual visit basis (City Gym) but was impressed with space - does have a reputation but I never found it too bad. I know it has subsequently had a big refurbishment which looks impressive. All depends what you are looking for, but my advice is to try a few gyms in the area that suits at the time you usually train as one person's hell is someone else's nirvana. FF definitely have the hard sell down to a fine annoying art and harder to leave than a cult but they also provide benefits to lots who are happy customers of their services/facilities. Good luck! |

KX Fitness in Kings Cross, Sydney has closed over the last week. Anyone belong to it? It is the sad closure of another independent gym. A Fitness First opened in Kings Cross over the last year or so & I presume they drove it out of business. A couple of days ago there were 3 blokes from the FF outside the closed premises of the KX gym handing out leaflets to ex-members who were stopping to read the notices on the door of the gym...it was as though having killed it, they wanted to pick over the carcase as well!
City Gym down the road is offering deals for ex-KX members (as are FF). I don't really want to go to FF if I can help it, but City Gym had a reputation of being a bit pretentious and sceney in the past. Does anyone know if it's still like this? My friend told me they used to joke in the gay community that you'd have to work out at another gym somewhere else for 6 months before you'd join City Gym, just so you'd look good. LOL. I'm going to go check it out but would like to hear how current or past members of City Gym (Crown St, East Sydney) have found it. |
