| Many years ago I joined up at a gym in the city, only for it to go into receivership less than 2 weeks later. They knew the gym was about to go into receivership and deceived me. I got them into court rather quickly for breach of contract - and my money was refunded - in full. |

Hmmm sounds like a bit of a sales pitch for Fitness First!
Best way to go is trial a gym out for a month perhaps.Being your first time it is very hard to stay motivated. Even better see if you can drag a work mate or a friend along for support and motivation. |

| Hi there - I recommend Fitness First - its a well established gym (so you wont have to worry about it shutting downon you and not getting your money back!) and once you join up your pass allows to be used in any fitness first gym around australia. You have the choice of a one year membership for about $80 per month, or you can go for the no lock contract deal (so if you decide to drop out you can do it anytime) and that is $90 per month. When you first join up you are offered a 2 week trial in which anytime in that 2 weeks if you decide you would prefer not to join the gym, you are given your money back (except for administration fees). You are also offered a 3 session deal with a personal trainer for $60 which is optional but which I total recommend as this way you can discuss what your goals are, are shown how to use the equipment effectively, plus what work outs are best suited for you and what you are aiming to achieve. Fitness first also offer various classes such as - cycle, bodycombat, pilates, yoga, body pump, boxing. Check out the site www.fitnessfirst.com.au |

| The main thing I look for is flexibility and lots of different locations, because it's really handy if you change job or home location. Even better if you can also visit their branches overseas! |

It really depends on what is important to you...
Look for an established gym that's been around for a while (and doesn't look like it might go bust!). People have lost money by signing up for long gym memberships and the gym closes down.
Feel free to ask for a tour of the gym (and a couple of free passes to try it out - most will oblige). Look for clean equipment in good condition. Clean showers are a must too! |

I'm considering joining a gym, but I must confess its my first time.
What do people look for in a gym and how do people stick to a routine when motivation levels are low? |
