what we did was hold the lead half way down so you had some rope/lead dangling down. When the dog starts to pull you move the excess lead infront of the dogs eyes (not too close) this scares the dog and they move back next to you

Hi Kellie - Barbara Woodhouse - one of UK's best dog trainers swears by a choaker chain. When walking your dog and he moves too fat ahead simply give a quick but sharp little tug - he should immediately pull back - try to walk him on the same side each time so as he is not tempted to walk back and forth tripping you up. Have a few treats (rice bubbles are great) and reward him for good behaviour - not everytime though - a pat will do . We have a very strong stumpy-tail cattle dog and he was well trained by use of this method very quickly - he evens runs by the side of the pushbike on a lead and never once have we come to grief. Good Luck

Does anyone have some tips on how to train a dog to walk (not pull!) on the lead when walking?
