Well, it has been a while, but I made it back from Bali in one piece (and a few kilo's light phew) and thought I would pop in to say hello. Bali was lovely as usual, the food was a bit of a challenge, well not really the food, just eating slow enough and stopping early enough but I would have had that lesson to learn whether in Bali or at home. I have now dropped of 22kg and 3.5 cloth sizes and considering I was sleeved on 30th April, I am very happy with that. I am heading back to hospital next week to take care of the liver gremlin so will be out of action for a while again after this. I have been catching up on all the threads over the last week and am very impressed with the progress out there, well done ladies and gents.

Take care

Cathy

Morning Felice, I am doing quite well, back at work although only able to hack half a day at this stage. I did not realise how bad the lethargy would be, thought optifast was bad!!! Only a couple of days to go and onto mushies so this should help. Larnzie has not been as fortunate, she has been back in hospital since Friday night. The surgery itself went well and there is no problem with her sleeve but her spleen is causing issuing with her breathing so they are keeping her in there until she is happy with the pain. Poor thing, just wants to be home. The weight is dropping of quickly, usually between 1/2 and 1 kg per day but I am hoping this will settle alot when mushies kick in.

Best get off to work, although it would not surprise them if I was a no show lol.

Book your sleep study asap, there can be a couple of weeks delay maybe even longer now. Best of luck with Mr Ahmad, let me know how you go. Larnzie and I are doing very well, started on week 2- nourishing liquids today, it was nice to have something a little different. Talk to you soon.

LOL:) I'm good, saw Andrew yesterday for my physical, I have to have the sleep study done, but otherwise that went well, and I will see Mr Ahmad next Monday and hopefully get some idea of a time frame.

Thanks Felice, thank goodness, there is no pain for either of us. I have had no pain or pain relief since day 2 and Larnzie about day 3 I think but she would have to confirm, the only thing she has had are horrible headaches. All is good.

Plan on dropping in for 15 minutes or so just to say hello. Do not want to push more than that. Larnzie is struggling with phonominal headaches, the surgery went well, we think it is caffeine withdrawal but she is in a bad way so I do not expect she will be there.

Home from hospital, the op itself in my experience was a breeze, surgery at about 2.30, had trouble getting on top of the pain initially in post op, back to my room with press as you need it pain relief, up and in my own pj pants by 8.30pm. Had a good night, could sleep on both sides, so long as I did not roll too far over on the drain side. Chicken broth............ is that what you call it, I call it a dirty sock, run through a chicken coup and soaked in luke warm water.... anyway. From there everything went a bit pear shaped. Dr informed me they had found a lesion on my liver which is something that will have to be dealt with over the next few weeks, so we will move on from there. Only needed pain relief for 48 hours, nothing since then, moving around easily although tired. At home now, 84 hours later and all is ok

I'm getting so excited for you too, your big day is nearly here! I will think of you when I am downstairs at SJOG on Thursday having my gastroscopy.

How long are you expecting to be in hospital for?

Re:Thelma and Louise - our journey begin ... Reply to this message
I am hoping all will be good with the cost, will find out monday. My gastroscopy was completely covered but i do have a $200 excess on my medical insurance, so that is what it cost me. I did have to go back and see Mr Ahmed to set my surgery date, he will tell you when to do this at your gastroscopy, usually one or two weeks afterward. I am not even sure what his bougie is?? Might be something I missed, I am also not sure about the barium swallow but he does do a CT or MRI the day after surgery to detect leaks if you have private health cover (very prohibitive cost wise if you do not)this seems to be something different to what you described. Seems I missed some things along the way!!

Re:Thelma and Louise - our journey begin ... Reply to this message
Oh no, I hope the cost is not too prohibitive! Even if it is, maybe you can arrange to pay it off? I am having a gastroscopy next Thursday, and it is $333 for the anethetisit (yeah that guy) and I get $157 back from medicare, so when you ring them, get the item number so you can check the medicare rebate, it not be as bad as you think.

I've got my fingers crossed that everything goes ok and you will both safely have your surgeries.

My bmi is 43 at the moment, if I can loose a couple more kgs before I see him on the 7th I hope I won't have to have the sleep test either.

Did you have to go back to see Mr Ahmad after your intitial visit to go through anything with him? I forgot to ask simple things like what size bougie he uses and if he does a barium swallow or uses the blue dye leak test during surgery, do you know?

m2
