You will need to live there for at least 3 months to get the main residence exemption back dated for up to 4 years if you don't want to cover another place during that time. References and more discussions are available in on www.bantacs.com.au in their CGT booklet in the free publications section

Hi There,
maybe somebody could help me - We are building a new home on a block we bought 8 month ago, which was planed to be be our main residents. Now - the house is not quiet finish, we dont want to move in no more at all - and sell once it is finish.After the house is sold we like to buy another one. Does somebody know if we have to pay CGT and how much ? thank you very much
