There are heaps of student discount companies out there, but not so many free ones. PokitPal is FREE for students and provides insane deals on the student essentials - food & drink. Available in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Newcastle and the Central Coast.

I've found the student associations/clubs on campus often have some good discount arrangements. Find one you would like to join, and if they offer a good discount card, grab it. You'll often find that membership will only cost you $5. You might save more than that on your first purchase somewhere.
If there is an association/club that you have no interest in, but it has a discounting arrangement you'd use a lot, join anyway if you can. Think of the small joining fee as an investment if it saved you money on stuff you'd buy anyway.
