The Insolvency and Trustee Service Australia is the government agency responsible for the administration and regulation of the personal insolvency system in Australia. ITSA operates the bankruptcy registry, where debtors petitions are lodged, debt agreement proposals are processed and public records on insolvency are maintained, and acts as a trustee in bankruptcy. Official Receivers exercise powers to assist trustees to obtain information and recover property. ITSA investigates possible offences under the Bankruptcy Act and prepares briefs of evidence for prosecution.

Our purpose is to provide a personal insolvency system that produces equitable outcomes for debtors and creditors, enjoys public confidence and minimises the impact of financial failure on the community.

ITSA also provides information about bankruptcy and its alternatives to debtors in financial distress.

For fast and efficient contact with your local ITSA office in Australia, please call 1300 364 785 or email us on enquiry@itsa.gov.au.

You might want to put some cash aside instead of paying bills as I would expect any solicitor to require a deposit before giving advice pertaining to bankrupcy
