Anyone got any ideas on where BHP is probably going to invest its huge cash, credit and gold reserves?
e.g., OZL, CAH, FRS, FML, KOR, UAU, PNN, REY, WRK, WPL, .... ...
If can guess well, can win -- even in a tough market .... it's really a billion $$ question.
"29 March 2005 Dear WMC Resources shareholder,I am pleased to enclose BHP Billiton’s Offer to acquire all of your shares in WMC Resources Ltd.
BHP Billiton, through its group company, BHP Billiton Lonsdale Investments Pty Ltd, is offering A$7.85 cash for each WMC Resources Share that you hold." |

BHP - the guessing game (PREVIEW)
BHP pulls out of RIO because of the debt but indicates they are looking to buy so the guessing game has begun - who are they going to gobble up?
Candidates so far are OZL, FML and PNA
obviously they will be looking for a business with low debt levels, decent resoources and a cheap price (well - that's everything at the moment)
Except RIO. |

There were too many negative factors for the merger.
The biggest hurdle was disapproval of the European Committee who stated that the merger would need to sell some assets to comply.
Given that their asset selling would be when asset values have dropped considerably then it was a no go.
Our resource market's biggest hurdle is not so much the price for the stuff or the lack of buyers, its infrastructure with ports and getting it away quickly.
Rudd & Co should be focusing their recession proof projects on these types of constructions, rather than supporting our car industry with a few billion. |
