My son is buying a car from his mate who is going overseas tomorrow. He can't pay for the vehicle til 3rd March when the sale of his property settles. The transfer papers have all been signed. Problem is he cannot get insurance on a vehicle he doesn't own. Fair enough. If the rego transfer is lodged and paid for and the insurance company knows the vehicle is encumbered to a finance company (even though it isn't my sons loan) can this transaction go ahead for insurance sake til the loan is paid out in full in a month's time?
