You know, when the pension was first introduced, it was set at 65 because most people did die not long after that - the idea was to give people a few years of rest, not more than that.
We baby boomers can't have it both ways - in our fifties and sixties, we say we're not old and expect to live like a thirty-year-old. Yet we're too old to work!
I'm not happy about the hike either, but I also don't think it's practical to expect the younger generation to support me for another 30 years once I retire - and with life spans increasing the way they are, that's what we're looking at. |

Come on! 67 is still young! I'm nearly 68 and work 2 businesses.
We are lucky to make it to 67, some countries(or Australian aborigines) only have a 50 year lifespan.
Console yourself with the fact that many people retire at 65 only to drop dead within 6-12 months. Now BBs will have an extra 2 years before that happens to them!
Take it on the chin, it's not the end of the world! |

Unbelievable. It has already risen from 55 to 65 -where will it end? On a voluntary basis working to 67 is fine but to be forced to do so is another matter. My imagination shudders at the thought of the discrimination that will occur in the work place even in the so called "cushy" jobs, sixty seven is just way too old.
Is this so x and y'ers can pay the generous entitlements, like three quarters of your salary for the rest of your life, handed out to the baby boomers at 55? We will definately see a reverse of the current trend towards longer lifespans by this policy which means we will be working till we die. From that perspective maybe it is a great social policy if you just ignore the immense personal cost. |

| Spot on, these morons (politicians) should actually try a real job for a change, and see what it is like in the real, working world! |

Have these blokes got any idea about hard working conditions in heavy industries?
Not everyone spends their working day in parliament spinning lies and rhetoric that has no basis. Some of us work hard for a crust in industries that are not very friendly old bones.
If you know little else looks like you have no choice but to die on the job. IDIOTS! |
