| Thank your lucky stars that you live in country like Australia that has a welfare system that recognises it and gives some assistance. Most other countries dont give this support. |

| Clinical Depression is different from the everyday saddness we feel when bad things happen, our minds are the product of brain function and sometimes things go wrong in the brain and this can affect memory, intellegance, emotions anything the brain controls. People with real depresson and anixety disorders can be so sick their lives are unbearable. Some people might pretend to have depression to get the DSP, even though I cant understand how a person who is capable of earning $800+ a week would want to cut that down to $300 a week just cause their lazy. But there are real cases of mental illness out there that stop people from working forming relationships and enjoying life. Its not that they dont want to be happy their malfunctioning brain doesnt alow it. |

Disability is lack of ability relative to a personal or group standard or spectrum. Disability may involve physical impairment, sensory impairment, cognitive or intellectual impairment, mental disorder (also known as psychiatric disability), or various types of chronic disease. A disability may occur during a person's lifetime or may be present from birth.
Disability may be seen as resulting directly from individuals, in which case the focus is typically on aspects of those individuals and how they could function better. This view is associated with what is generally termed a medical model of disability. Alternatively, the interaction between people and their environment/society may be emphasized. The focus may be on the role of society in labeling some people as having a disability relative to others, while causing or maintaining disability in those people through attitudes and standards of accessibility that favor the majority. This view is commonly associated with a human rights or social model of disability.
On December 13, 2006, the United Nations formally agreed on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the first human rights treaty of the 21st century, to protect and enhance the rights and opportunities of the world's estimated 650 million disabled people.[1] Countries that sign up to the convention will be required to adopt national laws, and remove old ones, so that persons with disabilities would, for example, have equal rights to education, employment, and cultural life; the right to own and inherit property; not be discriminated against in marriage, children, etc; not be unwilling subjects in medical experiments.
In 1976, the United Nations launched its International Year for Disabled Persons (1981), later re-named the International Year of Disabled Persons. The UN Decade of Disabled Persons (1983-1993) featured a World Programme of Action Concerning Disabled Persons. In 1979, Frank Bowe was the only person with a disability ... |

Not all people on benefits are large and slovenly. I am on a disability pension as I can't work thru arthritus and if you had it you would understand the pain and suffering that some people go thru.
A disability is not given out lightly like the dole and I agree there are some people who are just to lazy to get off their backsids and look for work and some of the single mothers need to be, dealt with severley you can understand one mistake maybe but after that it is a joke |

Perhaps this needs to be reworded slightly...
Society seems to forget that raising children isn't a right, it's a responsibility. But the responsibility doesn't start after you have the child, it starts when you DECIDE to have have sex which may produce a child.

IMHO pay rates like 1.37 per hour sounds like one of the numerous online pretend you can earn sites... If you are restricted physically, yet online the 1.37 per hour is better than nothing - though the effort required may be better spent elsewhere.
Tanya likely is trying, however needs find an easier way to earn a living.
Whichever way look for money each has own complications.
Have been there also :-O
So to help is best she clarify what she feels her limitations are, eg. centrelink base income trap, hard to relocate, hours able to work...
Such information makes it easier to help her find ways around barriers.
Changing what you regard as work can also bring a big change. |

SECOND VIEW___Hey enough I had a dear lady friend who was on a dsp after being serverly rapped and developed a mental illness as well the trauma and shock of the experience.
she bearly made ends meet. with her dsp. some people dont choose to be on a pension, but alas have no other means of support but the vary government that rejected her claim for criminal compensation. vary complex case.
I felt extremly sorry for the girl and did what i could to help her. I worked a dead end job for years supporting her disability and knowing full well that it would take her years to recover. So not only did my health suffer from it but hers to. She couldnt afford a lawyer to fight the case. and could afford her medical treatment either. SO FOR GOD SAKE LAY OFF. GOD REST HER SOUL IN PEACE. Hey Peace JET |

| Who the hell is paying you $1.31 per hour. 14 year olds working at Hungry Jacks make a lot more than that per hour. Is there not supposed to be minimum hourly rate in Australia. If true, that is bl..dy appalling. Name then and shame them. |

| You try living on d.s.p. and paying $940 a month just for mortgage.And I don't live in a fancy house.Just a cheap house in a high crime area.Maybe you say rent a house? Well $225 a week is average rent,and housing trust?-only a 20 year wait!And I'm very sick and severly depressed,and I drag myself to a place of work for 15 hours a week,at $1.31 an hour.So don't talk rubbish. |
