Home ownership is largely a state government responsibility , It is predominantly controlled by the adequate release of land , state stamp duties , real estate fees, etc.
All of which are controlled by the states ,The states have been negligent in their duties ,on a number of issues , and very carefully been able to shift the blame to their federal counterparts , weather agreed or not , the fact is the tax payer is once again , not the priority of our politicians .

Costello is fighting the next election. He has warned that if Labour is elected, the economy will spiral into recession.

That is an admission. The economy IS heading into a recession and he wants to be able to blame labour for it after the libs lose this one, so that he, as opposition leader, can win the 2010 election.

Hey Mr Lawyer - I 've got news for you. There will be a recession and it is partly your fault.

Re:Costello Reply to this message
Maybe, just maybe, someone will ask the two kids Jo&Pete , why the price of houses has outstripped the average wages earned by the workers. Where has this money gone?
Is it sane financial management to shift the burden of home ownership to the few who can afford to repay the huge mortgage and interest costs,[interest rose several times since the kids got control]? Or is this some sinister plot to enslave the masses? Buy em lollies, and tell em fairy tales.Well to you kids in limbo, sorry , Canberra me thinks the party is almost over.

Another one for the so called boy from the south, where did all the losses in the future fund go?
And if good management is a prerequest for a switched on funds manager , how come we now have a foreign debt that has doubled in the last 10 years?
So much for the aussie fairy tale.

Costello Reply to this message
The last two budgets demonstrate that Costello's budget policy is dictated more by Foreign policy concerns and the US alliance than anything domestic. They have both served to increase inflationary pressures (look at the A$) which helps support the failing US$. Our budgets appear to be drafted by Helicopter Ben.
