| Getting money from the government is not a right, it is a privillage. The government should reduce the current overtaxation welfare system back to a safety net to help the truely needy and use the savings to cut income tax rates across the board. |

| I think that in certian circumstances the baby bonus is needed eg first time mums and to pay private medical as well as for IVF etc but I think the Government should have stipulations on who gets the money ...single mums with more than 2 kids etc I see heaps of young mums just poping out baby after baby just for the money ... what happens when they grow up will they be able to care for 5 and 6 children its not easy I have 4 all close to there teenage years and know how hard it is ... will these extra kids all end up in welfare foster homes abandoned when there mums cant afford to care for them emotionally and financially .... Also the government had the perfect opportunity to try to encourage marriages or being in two parent familys by making it a criteria for the payment at least this might have encouraged a few single mums off the pensions ... |

I agree what I waste of taxpayers money
In my line of work I house so many single mums just popping out the kids so they can have big tvs, nice cars etc. It doesnt even cost them anything to give birth as us taxpayers pay for that as well!
I have private health insurance and still had to pay thousands of dollars to have my kids as I have diabetes so that complicates things
when we had our kids the payment was coming in but it was about $900.00
You shouldnt get paid to have kids its a choice you make |

| The baby bonus should only go to first time parents, not to families who already have kids and therefore already have all the stuff you need, pram, cot etc. It's a shameless waste of taxpayers money. Parents used to manage just fine without the bonus. Sure, some people are doing the right thing with the bonus, but most are not. |

I agree jasonwaroo, children should only be considered in a family when you can afford to raise them, most of the baby bonus deals are going to single mums or non working families. Get foundation in the relationship then get your finances sorted out then consider children.
I was unaware the baby bonus was for use as savings as mentioned in previous messages, working families & couples doing the right thing by waiting to be in correct financial position to have children are being forgotten about & we are rewarding the wrong people for doing the wrong thing. Perhaps a government survey needs to be done to find out what type of family & what areas are getting the bonus the most. Sorry to people in Dubbo but I bet this place is high on the list & if there is no work there move, this is the last place a population boom is needed if there is no work there.
Most couples in the city are not getting the bonus but this is where the work is & where people need to be for work. |

| They should cancel this welfare payment as well as a lot of other family welfare payments; and use the svaings to cut taxes across the board. |

Why the governments are not providing the cash to people in a form of stamps or cards that are expired after let's say 6 month. The cards receivers which are the people will have to buy something using those cards and within this time period, that way the money given by the government will guaranteed to go back to the economy and stimulus it and not wasted on gambling or paying debts.
I don't understand why it is not done already here in Australia they have already wasted $4b and now more will be wasted without this kind of system.
I would save the money if I could and I'm sure many more will do the same, so without this kind of system my friends it will fail!!! |

| i agree with you....they should not take the blame on people using their baby bonus wisely and who's not.I thought that this installments of baby bonus only goes on the young mothers under 21 who's having a baby in order to get that amount, so why it goes not for everyone who is much more older and already are a parent/s?. c'mon, a lot of retails shops offers 4 years to pay on this and that...LOL....and besides, not everyone is wishing to have a children. Im a mother, and im due to have a baby this year....whatever baby bonus i will have, it will go to my kid's bank, use some to baptis him, and save the rest for emergency, you never know what life comes the next day when we wake up. dont argue about baby bonus guys, argue whether kevin rudd is worth to be a PM....LOL! |

| I think this is rediculas, When i had my baby last year i was lucky that i had money saved to purchase the things that i needed but not everyone has that, the payment is needed for the high cost of having a baby and setting up there nursary. When my daughter was born and i recieved the $4000 i put the $2500 that i took out of my savings account back in and the remaining $1500 was put into an account in my daughters name, its now earning interest and there when i need it. We are not all blowing the money on Drugs or bigscreen TV's, but we are ALL being punished for the mistakes of others. Wrong desison labour party. |
