| I understand some families do have fiancial difficulites about the living, these families do need help from the Govt. But I do not think some families who are entitled for the one off payment are really desperated even if they don't have the payment. I just want to tell the fact, look at some people who claim they are in very difficult situation but living in a big house, driving a nice car and beautiful toys for their children. I think they just simply don't know how to mange their budgets. I work full time, leave home every day before sun rise and come home after sun set, I put my kid in the before and after school care. My pay just reach the limit of the income test for FTB-A. I do have a kid with disability, I need to get her special shoes which is expense to me to pay for. But I am entitled to the one off payment, is it fair? I pay lot of tax every year. I think it is better to spend time to help some people do need to help rather than spening the time to debate it. |

"I say 'Good on you" anyone who does the 'hardest job on earth' on a single income, and let's hope Christmas doesn't pass you by."
I am sure there are those that are victims of circumstances outside their control, this message is NOT aimed at those.
Life sure sucks when you don't think about the consequences, time to grow up kiddies. ;) |

I DO understand where any sole parent who wonders whether we will be remembered is coming from: Christmas and holiday season are a special time for children and it IS hard to fit in that extra expenditure on a low income. All the tax return money is long gone catching up on the credit card bills or whatever, and the new school year is just around the corner - with all the expense that entails. But, to the better-heeled, all government assistance is regarded as 'unwarranted freebies'. I had a Centrelink officer tell me that the pension card entitlements are like 'gold'. Funny, from where I stood, it was more of a life-line.
I say 'Good on you" anyone who does the 'hardest job on earth' on a single income, and let's hope Christmas doesn't pass you by. |

I wonder how many people felt annoyed after reading this little gem ???
Not everyone waste these payments on frivolous purchases therefore i feel it was extremely unfair of you to instantly judge this person, Do you walk in their shoes? Do you know what their circumstances are ??
I for one am a sole parent of two beautiful children who happen to have 5 diagnoses between them they both have major learning problems, many may not realize that tutoring costs $40 per hour, they also both have ligament laxity in their ankles hence they need to wear leather shoes with laces to support their ankles these usually start at around $60 per pair and of course being on kids feet they don't last all year like some would expect.
Than there is their medication for their ADHD and yes whilst i may pay the PBS price for scripts it still adds up. I also take both children to Royal Far West Children's Medical Centre at Manly Twice per year to have them assessed for a multitude of disorders, and yes whilst i may receive assistance in the form of rail vouchers for these trips there are still costs involved, While all this is going on there are still the normal living expenses to keep up with so the list gos on I for one welcome any assistance the government can give me to assist.
Their are many people out there who are doing it even harder.
A new Plasma (yeah right) Dinner for two (I wish their were 2) A new outfit ( What for?).
So to cathbb56 i hope this at least helps to go towards teaching you not to judge people too quickly if at all..... |

That payment is paid every year now, was not a once of, its called the FTB Supplement.
$600 per child, plus $300 if getting FTB part B. Paid after tax returns lodged or after advising centrelink no need to lodge |

| Not every one waste these one of payments. Some people actually put it to good use for their children. Whether it be in the form of tutoring,or maybe Sports fees or something that is benefiting the chilod it is paid for. |

And tell me, what would you have wasted it on? A new plasma? Dinner for two? A new outfit?
Isn't it much better for all if the government (which ever one is in power) works towards reducing the cost of living day-to-day?
Tax cuts are a part of this.
And before you claim that higher income earners get a bigger tax cut, do the math. Tax is a percentage of income. The higher the income the higher the tax and associated tax reduction.
I am bemused at the University grants. How many young Australias actually make it to Uni? Kindergarten, primary school and secondary school and the important educators.
Give the kids the skills they required in the public education system. |
