| Many people stupidly remind me that Elvis has passed away over thirty years ago, and yes, I know that. For every superficial person who overlooks his success as a performer, there are many people out there like me who love his style of entertainment. I've seen footage of his concerts and I haven't seen a performer engage his audience quite the same way. Those people probably saved for months and many travelled around America to attend his concerts. One thing that really impresses me about Elvis' attitude to performing - he genuinely seemed to enjoy being there on stage entertaining his audience. He liked his audience and wanted to show them a good time with the songs, and he did that consistently. His easygoing banter with the band and audience, the scarf-giving and various other things that were part of his style remind me why Elvis is still loved and admired many years later. People can joke all they like about his lifestyle, the drugs, the weight and all those things that were personal to him. But before anyone criticises him they should look at videos of his trophy room and see how choc'a'block it is with awards that he earned. For every person he had brought happiness to in those concerts and from listening to his music around the world, in my opinion he earned every award and every dollar. |
