| hello! I thought Wolf Creek was an interesting movie. But it's too bad that the killer was never brought to justice. |

| What's wrong with Wolf Creek - its one of the first aussie movies that dont make us aussies out to be a bunch of yobbo's : example :- The castle , or queers : example :- Pracilla , Strange bed fellows , the some of us. Now Im not saying yobbos or queers are bad at all - I dont have a problem with either , The australian Film Industry has shown the world movies based on the cultures of these two groups ( Not to stereo-type them into groups though). The Aussie film commission needs the support of the people of Oz to bring out More Australian "feature" films that show the world more than the back yard barbie or the nightlife cultures , even the tourist board is making us out to be VB drinking , Footy short wearin , thong slapin twits - were the bloodt hell are ya ! all I can say is thank god for the Matrix |

hey cyber :)
just trying to point out that jack has developed the crazy /oddball character over the years .
wasnt cuckoos nest done before chinatown though -someone mentioned it and i thought cuckoos was in the 60's and chinatown was in the 80's [am too young to know ]lol:)
i myself preferred kathy bates -very versatile actress .
misery ,delores clairbourne ,etc... she is usually an interesting person to watch :) |

jack nicholson is totally over rated as an actor
he's had the good fortune to be well supported by female actors of the highest calibre, and that has won him awards. |

hey msalyles ... :-)
Not a bid=g fan of the later movies of Nicholson you mentioned .. a little too commercial for me, movie snob that i am .. but stelly mentioned "one fles over the cuckoo's nest" which i can't believe i forgot as it's an all time fave ..althought the book was better with that one too.
I know there are others but he did get horribly type-cast and subsequently complacent ..IMO. |

cyber -totally agree with you stating the shining as a goog nicholson reference:)
but what about -witches of eastwick ,his role as the joker in batman ,even more recently anger management .he still does some good movies ,but like all actors /actresses they cant be perfect performers 100 percent of the time :) |

There have been plenty of bad movies so I will name two that were unbelievably rewarded with best picture oscars - Forrest Gump and Titanic, the latter is just absolute garbage.
As for Nicholson doing nothing of worth since Chinatown, I would suggest you check out One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, which I'm fairly sure was made after Chinatown. |

I remember seeing "The Shining", and I think I liked it. Knowing that Nicholson was an actor that knocked my eyes out when I first saw him, I am amazed that I don't remember much about "The Shining". Again, as you recommend it, I shall rent it next week to check.
Some actors, I realise, begin their career with a big part that really suits them A real drongo called Ernest Borgnine played a shy butcher in a film called "Marty" and I really believed him to be one of the best actors I had seen for years. McHale's Navy brought me up very quickly.
Tom Hanks is another actor who I over-rated, I think. Robyn Williams, who shows off so shamelessly every time he acts, could be as good as Malcovich or Streep if only he would stop trying so hard to impress.
Talent is not oversupplied in Hollywood [though Australians seem to supply more than their share!] and the place is known for its propensity to bury talent anyway... |

***The biggest letdown I remember was Jack nicholson, who was absolutely brilliant in "Chinatown" and subsequently never again gave a performance above mediocre, or performed in a film of any worth...****
OI!!! What about "The Shining" then?!?! I know the book was considerably bettere but it was still a good flick and he did an outstanding job. |

So often, when I was younger, I would take note of a promising young actor, see that actor's name in a subsequent film, then go to that film based on my impressions of a new actor! This, I eventually discovered, was an utterly stupid way to select a way of spending my time and my money. The Director is most responsible for making a film, not an actor, particularly a young actor.
The biggest letdown I remember was Jack nicholson, who was absolutely brilliant in "Chinatown" and subsequently never again gave a performance above mediocre, or performed in a film of any worth...
Acknowledging that a session inside a cinema lasts for 3 hours, going in search of 'The Worst Movie Ever" seems a good way to waste ones life! You find enough amateurish films without trying!
If you are an ABC viewer, however, and really are determined to watch some of "The Worst", try Norman Wisdom's awful comedic confections, or that trite repetitive rubbish with Syd James, James R. Justice, etc. "Carry On..." I think the junk was entitled?
I remember, as a youngster, laughing myself sick at this... How embarrassing! |

By the trailers I some how thought it would be funny and was ready to have a laugh. I am no prude but the amount of swearing in it was so uncalled for and they could have really dealth with that whole topic so much better! Thank God i didn't insist in watching it with my boyfriend lol that is all I can say and to think i even watched the end of that stupid movie thinking that it would improve!! |
