| Great movie! Do not let the movie pass you by because it is not a hollywood film, has no famous actors/actresses in it or does not have a massive publicity campaign/soundtrack/comic book fanbase behind it. It was made by Peter Jacksons protege and has absolutely amazing special effects (the aliens look amazing) intertwined with (for once) a great and intriguing story line. The story is about a spaceship that arrived at earth 23(?) years ago and just stays motionless above Johannesburg. For quite a while nothing happens. No movement, no communication etc. After 3 months the army decides to break into the space ship and they find over 1 million aliens living in a broken down ship basically starving to death. The government then brings them all down to Johannesburg and set up a kind of alien immigration camp for them to live in. They basically end up like refugees, living in squalor in the camp, commiting crimes and getting on the nerves of all South Africans. So the government of today decides to move all 1.6million of them to a camp 240ks outside of Johannesburg that is more like a concentration camp. And that’s where the story begins. |
